Range of Application and Mode of Action AR 2414 is used mainly for flocculation of mineral and hydroxide type solid particles and colloids, preferably for clarification of washing water in the treatment of mining raw materials, such as hard coal, rock salt, sand, gravel and clay. It is also used in the metal producing and processing industries and in the chemical industry. These applications usually involve the flocculation of very fine to colloidal solid particles suspended in neutral to alkaline slurries, which contain mainly inorganic solids. Other applications include the treatment of surface and ground water, and all types of waste water, after preliminary treatment with hydroxide forming substances. The mode of action of anionic AR- 2414 products is based essentially on ion exchange between the electrical charges along the polymer chain, which are present in aqueous solution, and the surface charges on the suspended solid particles. The particle surfaces are destabilized, thus bringing about coagulation or flocculation.

Application/Dosage AR - 2414 is used as a dilute solution (0.05 to 0.1 %). For preparation of stock solutions (approx. 0.5%) the original product is added to water with uniform stirring. After a dissol ving period of approx. 60 min. (at a temperature of 15 C) the solution is mature and is thus ready for use. Owing to the very variable

properties of the slurries and sludges to be treated, the required addition quantities for a particular application can only be determined by carrying out laboratory tests and industrial trials. When used as a sedimentation accelerator or clarifying agent (in static sedimentation processes), only a few grams of

AR - 2414 per cubic metre of the slurry to be clarified are required. In mechanical sludge dewatering, in order to achieve a high machine throughput and a discharge water free of settleable solid materials, approx. 100 g/m 3 of wet sludge are required.

Working Safety and Accident Prev ention In case of spillage/leakage: Caution: Severe skidding hazard in combination with water and moisture. Keep public away from the danger area! Completely remove/reload the dry product. Completely remove and store moist/liquid product with sand or binders. Repeat this procedure as required. Remove minor residue carefully from the road by spraying with a strong water jet. Safety Measures: Prevent dust development in case of dry product! Avoid contact with the eyes! Avoid extended contact with the skin! Rinse off the product after handling/touching! Our experience has shown that AR solutions can be classified as non corrosive in contact with normal materials used for containers and pipes, such as plastics, plastic coated materials and stainless steel.

Storage High molecular flocculating agents, such as AR - 2414 are all basically sensitive to the effect of moisture, for example in the form of condensation water, water spray or splashes and atmospheric moisture. Contact with water Water hazard class: 1 (self classification) (drops) can cause localized lump formation. The product must therefore be stored in dry, closed containers and protected from moisture.
