VALUE ADDED EDUCATION(VAE) Department of Mechanical Engineering MCET-SIEMENS Centre of Excellence for Digital Manufacturing

1. Title of the Course and Number: Course Title: Solid Edge 2D Drafting and 3D Modeling Fundamentals Course Number: To be assigned About Solid Edge: Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology is the most complete feature-based 2D/3D CAD system available to the market today that combines the speed and flexibility of direct modeling precise control of dimension-driven design, to provide the fastest, most flexible design experience possible. With superior part and assembly modeling, drafting, transparent data management, and built-in finite element analysis, Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology is a core component of the Velocity Series portfolio that eases the growing complexity of product design. 2. Aim/Purpose of the Course: (Why,for Whom, Benefits to students, How it fits larger Programme objectives, Industry needs, Industry certification, Requirement of future courses)

Aim:

Learn how to create and edit 2D and 3Ddrawings with the use Solid Edge ST5.

Purpose: WHY: Industries rely on computer aided drawings (CAD software such as Solid Edge) in each and every level of a products development. It is inevitable to use and apply CAD software/packages in the industries.

For Whom: Students with basic knowledge in the subject of Engineering Graphics and Computer Aided Drafting can undergo this program.

Benefits to Students: A course on Solid Edge will develop students CAD skills to an advanced level as well as giving the student the essential training to produce 2D and 3D CAD drawings.

How it fits larger Programme objectives: Students undergoing CAD programmes such as this will enrich their knowledge and skills in Engineering Graphics in a graded manner, whereby, at the completion of their degree programme they will graduate with high level of competency in the field of CAD/CAM/CAE.

Industry needs: Graduating engineering is expected to be industry-ready with one or more skills to meet the growing demands of the industries.

Industry Certification: A graded training, identified by the MCET-Siemens Centre of Excellence, may likely end with an certification after the completion of all the identified modules.

Requirement of future courses: An array of CAD/CAM/CAE based courses will be offered at MCET Centers of excellence and hence each fundamental course will assist the trainee to take up an advanced level courses in the future.

3. Prerequisites: Students with basic knowledge in the subject of Engineering Graphics and Computer Aided Drafting can undergo this program - II Year Automobile/Mechanical, IV Semester students.

4. Learning Goals/Outcomes: Students will develop drawings for todays customers not limited to producing the technical 2D layout, but also a visual representation of the product in 3D. Students develop their skills in understanding engineering drawings and Solid Edge ST5 software. Students are expected to work independently on similar CAD software, to adopt CAD in their project work, to compete in CAD contests, to identify a career in CAD.
