Intro: Today we are gonna be talking about UNDP and UNCTAD; they are both part of the UN.

Here is our agenda, we will be covering World Issues: What is UN? What is UNDP? What does UNDP want to achieve? UN: it is an intergovernmental organization created 1945 to promote world peace, economic and social development, and other forms of international cooperation. Initially, the UN had 51 members, but currently it consists of 193 members. The UN Headquarters resides in international territory in New York City, with further main offices in Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna. The organization is financed by assessed and voluntary contributions from its member states. The United Nations system is based on 5 principal organs: the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social council, the Secretariat, and the International Court of Justice. UNDP: The United Nations Development Program is the UNs global development network. It is currently present on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. It was established in 1965 by the General Assembly of the United Nations. UNDPs mandate is human development. It supports national processes to accelerate the progress of human development. It aims at eliminating poverty through development, equitable and sustained economic growth, and capacity development. Ultimately, UNDP wants to achieve real improvements in peoples lives and in the choices and opportunities open to them. UNCTAD: United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Established in 1964 as a permanent intergovernmental body, it is the principal organ of the United Nations General Assembly dealing with trade, investment and development issues. It has 192 member states. The creation of the conference was based on concerns of developing countries over the international market, multi-national corporations, and great disparity between developed nations and developing nations. The Conference ordinarily meets once in 4 years. UNDP impact: UNCTAD sources of fund: UNCTAD technical cooperation activities are financed from bilateral funding, including individual governments, UN system and other international organizations, the European Commission and private and public sectors donors; the UNDP; the United Nations programmed budget; and One United Nations Pilot Funds and other Multi donor Trust Funds (MDTFs) UNCTAD functions:

Amongst the 5 main functions of UNCTAD, the main important ones are (i) and (ii) The main Functions of the UNCTAD are: (i) To promote international trade between developed and developing countries with a view to accelerate economic development. (ii) To formulate principles and policies on international trade and related problems of economic development. (iii) To make proposals for putting its principles and policies into effect, (iv) To negotiate trade agreements. (iv) To review and facilitate the coordination of activities of the other U.N. institutions in the field of international trade. (v) To function as a centre for a harmonious trade and related documents in development policies of governments. UNCTAD presence/power/impact:
