FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS
1. GENERAL
3 Symbol Generators (SG) : - L/C/R SGs receive inputs from various aircraft systems then generate the proper visual displays for the related EADI & EHSI - Left SG for Captain & Right SG for F/O (Center SG is a back-up for either or both pilots) 3 IRS : - L/C/R IRS provide attitude (pitch & roll) for the related EADI & EHSI - Left IRS for Captain & Right IRS for F/O (Center IRS is a back-up for either or both pilots) 3 Flight Control Computers (FCC) : Left / Center / Right Air Data System consists of : - 4 pitot / static system (captains, F/Os, Left Aux & Right Aux) - 2 alternate static ports - 2 Air Data Computers (ADC) - 1 temperature probe (TAT) - 2 angle of attack probes. Left & Right Air Data Computer (ADC) receive inputs from Captains & F/Os pitot / static system - Left ADC for Left Flight Instruments (captain) - Right ADC for Right Flight Instruments (Opposite ADC is available as alternate air data source) In return, ADCs provide the following data for display on the air data instruments : - Mach - IAS - Vertical Speed - Altitude - VMO / MMO - TAT - True Airspeed (TAS) (each ADC outputs SAT & TAS data to the FMS (PROGRESS page) Instrument switching FLT DIR: select the FCC (L,R or C) for F/D NAV : - CPT side FMC-L = left FMS supplies L/C SG and FCC FMC-R = right FMS supplies L/C SG and FCC CDU-L = left CDU supplies L/C SG - F/O side idem for the right side EFI : ALTN = center symbol generators IRS : ALTN = center IRS AIR DATA : ALTN = Opposite air data computer

2. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
ATTITUDE & EHSI

Current Mach is displayed 0.40M & blanks 0.38M Pitch Limit Indicator (PLI) displayed when Flaps are extended. When the HSI is referenced to True North (TRUE) & the aircraft descends 2000 ft at more than 800 ft/min, the box changes from white to amber & flashes 10 sec. (returns to white when the aircraft climbs 2000 ft at more

ADI & HSI data fault detection & comparison monitoring is accomplished by the Instrument Comparator (IC). > 3 difference for more than 2 seconds = Master Caution + Caution Aural + PITCH or ROLL on both ADIs. if the SG is unable to perform the comparison function, a COMP flag will show on the ADI if ADI blanks EFI INSTR SOURCE SEL.......ALTN (Center SG is activated) Loss of Attitude info on ADI IRS INSTR SOURCE SEL.....ALTN (Center IRS is used) If HSI blanks EFI INSTR SOURCE SEL...ALTN (Center SG is activated) Loss of Info on HSI (MAP mode) NAV INSTR SOURCE..FMC L or R (Left A/P for Left FMC / Right A/P for Right FMC +Same MAP range each side)

NAVIGATION

Heading Switch NORM = magnetic heading between 73N and 60S outside, only TRUE is available in TRUE, only ADF available on the RDMI (VOR not available) TRUE heading on HSI becomes AMBER if descent of 2000 ft at min 800 ft/min Airplane track data is supplied by the FMC during normal ops (Left FMC for captains HIS & Right FMC for F/Os HSI) by the associated pilots CDU when in alternate navigation

SPEED CONTROL

Speed trend vector indicates predicted airspeed in the next 10 sec. Maneuvering speed (F bug) is displayed for existing flap setting : - Displays 10 sec. after takeoff - Blanks > 20000 ft Maximum Speed (barber pole / red & black) displays the lower of : - VMO / MMO - Landing gear extended placard speed if gear is extended - Flap extended placard speed if flaps are extended Minimum Maneuvering speed : - Speed at which a minimum of 40 of bank results in stick shaker is indicated by upper end of amber band. - Displays 10 sec. after takeoff Maximum Maneuvering speed : - Speed at which a minimum of 40 of bank results in high speed buffet is indicated by lower end of amber bar (when less than MMO). - Displays 10 sec. after takeoff Minimum Speed (red & black): - Upper end of red band indicates stick shaker speed at lower altitudes & buffet onset speed at high altitudes - Displays 10 sec. after takeoff Ground Speed display is a digital representation of the current GS received from the FMC or the IRS (FMC is the primary source)

2 electrically driven IVSI : - Captains IVSI connected to the Left IRS & ADC - F/Os IVSI connected to the Right IRS & ADC

STANDBY INSTRUMENTS
:

Standby Airspeed Indicator + Standby Altimeter are pneumatic - STBY airspeed connected to L AUX PITOT - STBY altimeter connected to the alternate static ports.

Radio Altitude is displayed < 2500 ft AGL / Rising runway available < 200 ft AGL

CVR The CVR is continuously operating when Right MAIN AC bus is powered - TEST button could be pressed for 4 sec. minimum to test all 4 CVR channels - ERASE button has to be pressed for 14 sec. (on ground only + PARK brake) to erase all 4 CVR channels - To save CVR, pull VOICE RECORDER C/B (P11-5/H34)
