1. Human Happiness It is hard to imagine anyone not having heard of a computer and the Internet especially in a modern society.

Nowadays, it is common to see a computer in every household and place of business. This advancement in technology has improved the way of life by simplifying tasks that once were manually managed. Today, children are being raised with computers and the Internet prevalent in their lives which has allowed them to take advantage of many benefits. These benefits are the result of the human pursuit of happiness. Three influential ways that computers and the Internet promote happiness is through its ability to provide rapid worldwide information, job simplicity, and entertainment.

An influential way that computers and the Internet promote happiness is through the ability to provide rapid worldwide information. One way people use the Internet is to get the daily news. Newspapers and magazines have suffered recently as more people use the Internet because it is much faster. Also, in sports, people use online websites to keep track of their teams rankings. Similarly, the Internet provides a vast amount of information; as much as a library. But it is habitually used more now because it is so easy. For example, research can be done through the Internet immediately without going to a library and if the website is a reliable source, the research can also be approved on its accuracy. No wonder most people consider using this advanced technology because of its ability to meet their needs quickly. Almost as important, tourists gather information through the Internets ability of providing detailed worldwide geography of countries. For instance, before computers and the Internet were prevalent, people essentially had to travel to their vacation to see the actual environment of the place. But now with the Internets help, photographs of countrys sites are available online for people to see.

2. The role of computers and the Internet in modern life Nearly everything we do in this world is helped or even controlled by computers. So it is difficult to overestimate their role and especially the role of the Internet in our life. With the growth of computing power, computers could do more and more tasks. Increasingly more complex programs, designed for ever more powerful systems, made it possible to create on a computer everything from spreadsheets to visual art and music. By the end of the twentieth century, the computer affected almost every aspect of human life particularly the work of artists, architects, composers, and writers. Now you dont have to sit for hours in the library and rewrite the material you need, you can just find it on the Internet and print it. So everything you need is at hand any materials on any topic. Its also convenient for translators instead of endless turning over the pages you just need to install an electronic dictionary, and your time is saved! Besides dictionaries, there are lots of other electronic programs almost for every profession. Today's architect relies on computer-aided design (CAD) programs that enable the visualization of structures in three dimensions. Musicians regularly use computers for composition and playback. Visual artists use computer graphics in creating and enhancing their works, and the traditional darkroom of the professional photographer has given way to the digital camera and the PC. As for writers, their work has been affected immeasurably by a range of computer developments, from the simplest word-processing software to complex programs that assist in the writing of novels or screenplays.

The Internet is used extensively in the sphere of education. On-line education is becoming more and more popular. Getting an online degree from an online college or career school is one of the hottest trends in higher education today. 3. The Importance of Computer and Internet Access at Home The internet is something most of us take for granted. We look up recipes, stay connected to friends and family, and research many different topics. More and more devices such as phones, e-readers, and MP3 players connect to the internet. And many students use the internet on a regular basis to do research for papers and other school assignments. In addition to the internet, many students use programs such as word processing programs, drawing programs and photo shop programs. It should be reassuring that more and more students are using the computer. That is until you look at statistics in the states that perform worst where education is concerned. Recent statistics out of Louisiana, which routinely ranks near the bottom in terms of education and graduation rates, show that between 32 to 40 percent of students do not have access to computers or internet at home. For a whole generation of parents and grandparents that number may not seem too alarming, after all, they managed to go to school, even to college and advanced degrees without internet access. But the world has changed. In years past, one expense that many parents incurred early in their childs life was the purchase of an encyclopedia set. As the computer and internet became a household fixture, many families replaced the purchase of encyclopedias with internet access. It could be argued that students with computer and internet access at home have an unfair advantage over students who do not have that access. Consider the student who does have internet access at home. With a five page report due, that student sits in their own home, pulls up the internet on the computer, and at their fingertips have thousands of sources from which to gather information. After collecting his or her data, this student types in the report, giving little care to the correct spelling or grammar, since both of those are easy enough to fix 4. The importance of computer knowledge in education Today, computers are used all over the world. We can find computers in houses, schools, offices, factories, companies and many other places. They are very useful to us as they can be used for many purposes. They have come to play an important role in our daily lives. So, we can say that the 21st Century is the age of computers and every student should have the knowledge of computer. A computer is an electronic machine and acts like the human brain. There are many advantages of using a computer. It can store, organize and find information. It can do calculations speedily. We can use computers to play games and watch films with CDs. Through computers, we can produce graphic designs, high quality printing services, logo creations, film editing and many others. We can link the computer with the Internet and do browsing or chatting. We can also send and receive e-mail from different parts of the world within a short period. The Information technology is the latest computer science. It is used as a global communication. We can look up more information on the websites. Nowadays, we, students, have the opportunity to learn our lessons through e-Education. The multi-media classrooms are well-equipped with computers and software. We can study lessons easily with the aid of computers. Pictures, drawings and tables can be drawn in the computers and we can use them at any time. Moreover, we can study many other subjects with the help of computers. Computer has become a very precious source and it is essential to know the importance of computer knowledge in education. So, we must learn to use the computer well. Today, there are many courses on

computers and most of the young people are studying the Information Technology to observe the latest development in computer science. To keep abreast of the time, every student should gain the knowledge of computer and try hard to be proficient. 5. The Impact of Home Computer Use on Childrens Activities and Development Kaveri Subrahmanyam Robert E. Kraut Patricia M. Greenfield Elisheva F. Gross I really want to move to AntarcticaId want my cat and Internet access and Id be happy. 16-year-old HomeNet participant (1995) Kaveri Subrahmanyam, Ph.D., is assistant professor of child development at California State University, Los Angeles. Robert E. Kraut, Ph.D., is professor of social psychology and humancomputer interaction at Carnegie Mellon University. Patricia M. Greenfield, Ph.D., is professor of psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Elisheva F. Gross, currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Los Angeles, was founding creative director of Plug In! Teen Talk on America Online, a nonprofit enterprise dedicated to developing communication, technical, and creative skills among atrisk teens.

Abstract The increasing amount of time children are spending on computers at home and school has raised questions about how the use of computer technology may make a difference in their livesfrom helping with homework to causing depression to encouraging violent behavior. This article provides an overview of the limited research on the effects of home computer use on childrens physical, cognitive, and social development. Initial research suggests, for example, that access to computers increases the total amount of time children spend in front of a television or computer screen at the expense of other activities, thereby putting them at risk for obesity. At the same time, cognitive research suggests that playing computer games can be an important building block to computer literacy because it enhances childrens ability to read and visualize images in three-dimensional space and track multiple images simultaneously. The limited evidence available also indicates that home computer use is linked to slightly better academic. 6. Computers, the Internet, and the World of Education Computers and the internet have changed the world of education in innumerable ways. This means the teacher must also change. Most students now have access to countless sources of information from all over the world. They can also talk to experts in multitudes of professions. Many students now learn to type before they learn to write in cursive. Despite these facts not all the changes have been positive. Students are now exposed to outside predators who may try to take advantage of them. In addition they may be exposed to obscene materials. Schools have installed filters, but they sometimes are unable to prevent all inappropriate material from being viewed. Many teachers complain that the internet allows plagiarism and all out cheating with access to pre-made term and research papers (where do you think this paper came from). Many critics of the educational system also point out that often students only like to use computers to access information. They dont like to use computers for their many other uses like complicated math problems or construction of spreadsheets. Unfortunately, this seems to be true computers need to be used across the curriculum not just for research projects. Yet another benefit having computers and internet access in the classroom is the ability of students to be able to talk to experts in their respective fields. Children doing a project on insects can to talk to scientists who work with insects every day. They may be lucky enough to talk to an astronaut or maybe an author whose

books they have been reading. Children can also participate in interactive chat rooms with other students or international pen pals. With this said its important that teachers take the proper precautions. Everyone knows that the internet poses many dangers especially for unsupervised children. When children are using chat rooms, care needs to be taken to ensure the children safety. Any student using a chat room needs to have a screen name(www.ptft.merit.edu). Teachers have to make sure they go over certain rules before they allow any student use the internet. Students must be taught to never give personal information over the internet this includes their name, location, or telephone number. It can be quite a liability to have internet access in the classroom; teachers must be sure they protect themselves. Another worry is that students may access inappropriate material. In 2001, almost all public schools with internet access (96 percent) used various technologies or procedures to control student internet access to inappropriate material on the internet ( www.nces.ed.gov/pubs2002/internet/8.asp ). These technologies usually work, but I have learned the hard way that they are not perfect. That is why it is important to monitor students whenever they do use the computer. Cyber cheating as well is a new problem that teachers now have to deal with as a consequence of the computer revolution. Plagiarism has been a problem since kids started going to school, but the internet opened up a new world of cheating. Take this example from a past Phi Delta Kappan article. Steve Gardiner an English teacher in Billings, Montana was home one night correcting a stack of Macbeth essays. He had sworn he just graded the paper this paper and had given it an A. He remembered writing on it. Was he mistaken, he looked back at his stack of papers? There it was the same exact paper word for word. Mr. Gardiner couldnt believe it; did they think he was stupid? They had copied each other work and they were in the same class. So he had thought. The next day when he confronted the two he found out that both had down loaded the essay off the internet. It was just dumb luck that they had both picked the same essay ( Gardiner, 2001, p. 172) This example shows just how easy it for students to cheat. Web sites like www.schoolsucks.com do not make a teachers job very easy. Sites like these offer papers on any type of subject a student would ever need to write on. They can really make a teachers job tough. This is why teachers did to be vigilant in catching cheaters. There are obvious things to look for though. High school students and defiantly younger students almost never write perfect papers. If it looks to good to be true, it probably is. Another way to check students work is through the internet exercise we conducted in our CS 101 lab. You visit an internet search engine type in a certain passage from a paper and see if anything comes up. If you do find something that matches exactly you more than likely have a student who is plagiarizing. School districts across the country must get better at implementing the current technology. Most of the computers in schools are set up in just one room commonly called a computer lab. This makes them completely inaccessible to be used in everyday learning especially at the elementary level. A major weakness of the education system is that computers are not used enough. Students need to work on them more. Any future job that a student could end up in will equire that they use some type of computer. In addition school districts need to do a better job in training teachers to use technology. Statistics released by the Department of Education in April of 2000 found that less than 35 percent of teachers felt they were well prepared or very well prepared to use techn ology effectively (www.nea.org/technology/ ). Schools need to realize that they need to spend more money on training teachers in technology than on the actual technology. A school can have all the newest up to date technology, but if no one knows how to use it, its useless. The kids often know more about computers than the teachers do.

In conclusion, one has to believe that computers and the internet have benefited education. Unfortunately, they have also brought many problems upon the schools. The schools are catching up and are implementing programs to combat these problems. They have a long way to go though. Despite that fact the teacher can go a long way in preventing most of these problems. All it takes is a teacher who is properly trained and can keep a watchful on their students. If these standards can be reached, the new technology can allow students to accomplish achievements once only dreamed of.

7. We are becoming increasingly dependent on computers. They are used in business, crime detection and even to fly planes. What things will they be used for in future? Is this dependence on computers a good thing or should we be more suspicious of their benefits?

Today computers are used almost everywhere, it is impossible to imagine our life without PCs, Internet, mobile phones and other computer devices. It is reasonable to think that people look forward to the future of computers. In what field will be computers used for and what role will human has in this world in future? Besides, computers make our life easier, we can easily get information about any product we plan to buy or place we plan to visit in a second using a personal computer and Internet. Scientists predict that in the nearest future it will be possible to smell a new perfume using the Internet and watch 3D scenes at home like we do in the movie theater. According to forecasts of HR agencies machines will replace jobs of cashiers, and civil and military pilots. Some corporations in Japan are already selling housewife-robots, which help old people to keep their homes clean.

Despite the fact that computers help us, they make us dependent. Apparently, people spend more time behind monitors than ever before. And some of them feel a need for more time to be spent with people in live contact. In addition, a breakdown of one of the important modules of a specific computer can entail serious consequences. Suffice to mention the computer problem that occurred in the end of 1990s, a problem related to the coming year 2000 (Y2K) and catastrophes that were predicted. Fortunately imminent disasters did not happen. However, it is difficult to imagine what could be if all the predictions came true.

We live in a technological era, computers penetrated everywhere with all benefits they provide and all dangers they hide. However we are satisfied with them and sometimes we even thank them because they help us in communicating, studying, doing business, entertaining and saving lives in critical situations.

8. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF USING INTERNET In the history of mankind, the Internet is the greatest development in the domain of communication industry. Internet has tremendous potential and a lot to offer in terms of services. We can notice advantages and disadvantages of using Internet. In the beginning we can indicate some advantages. At first, Internet is a source of information. There is a huge amount of information available on the Internet for just about every subject known to man, for example from government law and services, market information, new ideas and technical support. Students use Internet to doing their homeworks. Even teachers have started giving assignments that require extensive research on the Internet. Intenet can be also a tool to comunication. We can send email or use chat rooms to contact with person who physically is a thousand kilometres away. We can talk to our friends or strange people, who looking for new friends. But to majority of users, Internet is source of only entertaiment. Downloading games, movies, music or just surfing the celebrity websites are some of the uses people have discovered. We can also notice some disadvantages of using Internet. First disadvantage is theft of personal details. If we use the Internet, our personal information such as your name, address, credit card, bank details and other information can be accessed by culprits. Also It is possible for Internet users to become habitually addicted. People suffering from Internet addiction use the virtual world to as a substitution for real-life human connection. At last, computers are getting viruses from the Internet. Virus is is a program which disrupts the normal functioning of your computer systems. Computers attached to internet are more prone to virus attacks and they can end up into crashing our hard disk. Similar to each and every invention, the Internet has a both of advantages and disadvantages. It depends on us, what we choose.

9. Advantages and Disadvantages of the Internet Internet has been developed since the first electric computer appeared. Its been better and better now, and its so common that everyone who own the computer must be using it because most of the time we cant use the computer without it. Although the Internet is good and so important for us, there are still many disadvantages of using the Internet. First, the Internet has greatly improved our lives, and it has become necessary for everyone who has computers and cell phones to use. For example, nowadays everyone can use the Internet to conduct research, write an essay and even finish the work because these now are mostly needed to be done by computer and with the internet, we can easily find anything we want. In addition, we can know what is happening in the world with Internet, for there are many news website online, so that we can use computers and cell phones to read the news anytime, and we can even pick any news to read, no matter how old the news is. Furthermore, the Internet has also brought us some entertainment such as watching movies, listening to popular music, shopping, and surfing online, which we can do when we are free.

Second, although there are many advantages of using the Internet, there are also many disadvantages. For instance, people have become lazier and lazier since the Internet came out. They just depend on the computer to find the answers instead of going to the library, asking professor or other people, or doing it by themselves. In addition, nowadays, students are getting lost in playing social networking and computer games. For example, girls now like to use Facebook to chat with friends and play some flash games(mini game). They usually spend too much time on it to comment each other or to like their friends status or pictures. As for boys, they like to play computer games all the time, and then they just always forget to do their homework, and dont have enough sleep

10.Advantages and Disadvantages of Internet

Ten years ago, the Internet was practically unheard of by most people. Today, the Internet is one of the most powerful tools throughout the world. The Internet is a collection of various services and resources. The Internets main components are E-mail and the World Wide Web. Actually, theres a lot more to the Internet than E-mail, search engines, celebrity web sites, up-to-the-second sports scores, and chat rooms full of discussions. The Net also ranks as one of todays best business tools. Almost all households contain the Internet; however, before people connect to the Internet, they need to be aware of its disadvantages and advantages. Many people fear the Internet because of its disadvantages. They claim to not use the Internet because they are afraid of the possible consequences or are simply not interested. People who have yet connected to the Internet claim they are not missing anything. Todays technological society must realize that it is up to them to protect themselves on the Internet. Children using the Internet have become a big concern. Most parents do not realize the dangers involved when their children connect to the Internet. When children are online, they can easily be lured into something dangerous. For example, children may receive pornography online by mistake; therefore, causing concern among parents everywhere. Whether surfing the Web, reading newsgroups, or using email, children can be exposed to extremely inappropriate material. To keep children safe, parents and teachers must be aware of the dangers. They must actively guide and guard their children online. There are a number of tools available today that may help keep the Internet environment safer for children. Musicians are also concerned with disadvantages to the Net such as, accessibility and freedom. They are upset because the Internet provides their music online at no charge to consumers. File-sharing services, such as Napster, provide copyrighted songs to all Internet users. The main concern is the music is free! Musicians feel they are not getting paid for their work. Because of Napster, it is almost impossible to close down all filesharing services because there are too many of them to count. Another major disadvantage of the Internet is privacy. Electronic messages sent over the Internet can be easily tracked, revealing who is talking to whom and what they are talking about. As people surf the Internet, they are constantly giving information to web sites. People should become aware that the collection, selling, or sharing of the information they provide online increases the chances that their information will fall into the wrong hands. When giving personal information on the Internet, people should make sure the Web site is protected with a recognizable security symbol. On the other hand, this does not mean they are fully protected because anyone may obtain a users information. In other words, the most common Internet crimes are frauds.

Today, not only humans getting viruses, but computers are also. Computers are mainly getting these viruses from the Internet, yet viruses may also be transferred through floppy disks. However, people should mainly be concerned about receiving viruses from the Internet. Some of these dangerous viruses destroy the computers entire hard drive, meaning that the user can no longer access the computer. Virus protection is highly recommended. Despite all of the terrible disadvantages of the Internet, there are numerous advantages. In fact, the advantages weigh out the disadvantages. The most common thing the Internet is used for is research. Children and students are among the top people who use the Internet for research. Nowadays, it is almost required that students use the Internet for research. The Internet has become one of the biggest sources for research. Almost everyday, research on medical issues becomes easier to locate. Web sites have become available for people to research diseases and talk to doctors online at sites such as, Americas Doctor. Entertainment is another popular reason why many people surf the Internet. Downloading games, going into chat rooms or just surfing the Web are some of the uses people have discovered. There are numerous games that may be downloaded from the Internet at no charge. Chat rooms are popular because users can meet new and interesting people. In fact, the Internet has been used by people to find life long partners. When people surf the Web, there are numerous things that can be found. Music, hobbies, news and more can be found on the Internet. Another popular thing to do on the Internet is to check out the news. Almost all local news can be obtained through the Internet. Up to date sports scores are probably the most popular looked at news. Sports scores are updated on the Internet as soon as the game ends. Weather is also a popular source to look up on the Internet. Using the Internet to get the weather allows people to view weather all over the world. Live radar all over the country and local forecasts are just to name a few of the things that may be obtained for weather information on the Internet. Shopping online has also become a huge success and is considered a great advantage of the Internet. No matter what people are shopping for, it can be found on the Internet. People do not even have to leave their homes. A few companies have collected millions of dollars using the Internet for selling. Clothing is probably one of the most bought items online. Almost every major clothing store has its on Web site. In fact, In US, people can even go grocery shopping online using such sites as Priceline.com. Just one click of the mouse on the items they want to purchase and the items are delivered to their front door. Unfortunately, this kind of service is not yet available in Malaysia for the time being. Groceries and clothing are only a few of the items that may be bought on the Internet. In conclusion, todays society is in the middle of a technological boom. People can either choose to take advantage of this era, or simply let it pass them by. The Internet is a very powerful tool. It has many advantages; however, people need to be extremely aware of the disadvantages as well.

11. The Role of Computers in Modern Life (cont.) Our relationship with computers has grown alongside that evolution. For many, computers are now a vital part of almost every aspect of their daily routine. They are as important in business are they are in leisure time. Most offices are now run using Microsoft Office, a software program designed to cater for the core needs of running a business. Social networking on sites such as Facebook and Twitter offer opportunities to connect with friends across the globe, computers control our machinery and technology whilst computer gaming is an essential component of many gamers leisure hours.

Computers have been involved in making some of the key events in society an d civilizations progress happen in recent times. Lifesaving operations, complex and detail calculations needed for space travel and the Human Genome project have all been made possible by the advent of computers. With so many benefits, there are bound to be drawbacks and it has been argued that Social Networking erodes our natural relationships by reducing our interactions from face to face meetings to a mechanical medium. There have also been concerns that the reality presented by many computer games has significant impact on the thought processes of gamers and can even cause them to commit violent acts and several philosophical viewpoints warn about the potentially catastrophic (some say apocalyptic) effects of the surrender of human intervention to wholly mechanical processes. Whilst healthy cynicism and objectivity are important considerations when discussing a huge technological advance such as the advent of computers, it is the opinion of the author that they are a part of our natural reaction and mistrust of such a multifaceted and complex paradigm. The benefits of computers and the internet dramatically outweigh the (often perceived) disadvantages. Whilst commerce uses our interaction with the internet to advertise things it thinks the.

12.A Computerized World

Computers play an important role in this modern society. All people around the world are forced the "computer age" nowadays. Since the first computer was made in the late 1950s, which I heard that was came from the Chinese Abacus, the technology has developed extremely. Computers are everywhere and control a great deal of our living environment. More and more areas are being taken over by the computer. Not able to use a computer is a serious handicap with ramifications in all areas of life. Therefore, if people do not know computers or do not know how to use them it means that they are not prepared for the future. They will fall behind our advancing society. Computers have been applied to industry, agriculture, political affairs, economy, military, science and many other fields; it is becoming more and more important. It is reason why I feel; I need to know more about computers such as why computer is useful, history of computer, and Internet. COMPUTERS ARE USEFUL IN OUR LIFE Nowadays, no matter what the professions, a mainstay of the companies prefers to hire employees who basically need to know how to operate computers. "Knowledge of computers" has become a basic requirement in job descriptions. As computers are capable of handling large amounts of data in a very short

time, they are well suited for word processing. For instance, medical officers use computer to record patients' data for finding them easier and more conveniently. Banks also use computers to store information for consumers to know their account conveniently and orderly, etc. The government agencies are the one who use computers most because they need to record confidential data, for instance, the military, and the U.S Census Bureau, etc. The business also use computer password system in the companies that to avoid other companies' stealing their business secrets. Therefore, the secret data will not let out to other countries or companies.
