It has been one of the most important components of the communications industry. All printed materials ranging from maga ines to advertising! from te"tboo#s to cereal bo"es! are a direct result of graphic design and production. $ist the 11 forms of %omputer &ools for graphic design and briefly describe any '.

In terms of 4lements of Graphic -esign! describe the following5

a. &e"ture*the feel! appearance! or consistency of a surface or a substance b. %olor*the property possessed by an ob6ect of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way it reflects or emits light. c. 7alance*a situation in which different elements are e8ual or in the correct proportions. d. %ontrast*the state of being stri#ingly different from something else in 6u"taposition or close association. e. (attern* a regular and intelligible form or se8uence discernible in the way in which something happens or is done.

f. (ro"imity* nearness in space! time! or relationship g. Alignment*arrangement in a straight line or in correct relative positions. h. 9epetition* the action of repeating something that has already been said or written. i. 9hythm * a strong! regular repeated pattern of movement or sound 6. Whitespace* n computer science! white space is any character or series of whitespace characters that represent hori ontal or vertical space in typography. When rendered! a whitespace character does not correspond to a visible mar#! but typically does occupy an area on a page. ... #. :nity* the state of being united or 6oined as a whole

'.In terms of &ype ! What is a ;erif? *a slight pro6ection finishing off a stro#e of a letter in certain typefaces. What does ;ans ;erif mean? *a style of type without serifs. What is a ;8uare ;erif? * it is a type of font What is a script *handwriting as distinct from print< written characters.

+. What are &ype effects? =*height of characters ;tro#e > weight $eading

?. What are the three factors of &ype &e"ture?*@1the "*height controls the body height of the characters and affects amount of white space between the lines of te"t @Astro#e weight affects the appearance of heaviness of the characters .;ome typefaces have variable widths and loo# very delicateB while others are thic# and loo# heavy @)leading refers to the spacing between the lines of te"ts. /ore leading gives an open! airy loo# and less leading gives it a heavy! dar# loo#

@,) how does someone use emphasis and contrast with type? &his can be achieved by using different typefaces and/or si es. In addition use bolding and italics or other effects. :nderlining is never a good thing. if aline under te"t is desired 0and never in the body of a

document ) use a rule. A rule is a separate line. Its thic#ness and length can be controlled. it is always placed bellow the descenders @.breiefly describe the following features of images A. balance* in images can be symmetrical or asymmetrical! image components of color! si e! shape! location or visual interest may contribute to the balance. 7. proportion*is achieved through the distribution of elements in the image. Cften some elements are placed slightly out of proportion to add interest %. rhythm*! or a recogni able pattern! is often used to imply flow or movement .by repeating an element or very similar elements! attention is drawn through the image -. perspective*incorporates the visual cues that distance provides...Cb6ects get smaller as they move further away. (arallel lines roads! fences railway trac#s converge in the distance.

@D) what is ElayoutF in terms of graphic design elements $ayout is the process of placing the graphic elements in a graphic. It most often refers to document design .-ocuments usually have multiple pages .2or electronic publishing either to a screen or to a printer! the basic considerations are the same. &here is a message! there is an a message! there is an audience and an effective layout is re8uired to get the audienceGs attention and #eep it.

11) What is copy vs. image? %opy has priority over illustration .&his is a basic rule. A picture may be worth a thousand words! but if the message is simple then state in simple terms. If there is te"t over an image! it must be clearly readable .It cannot blend into the image
