Modem or !et4or9 Adapter Conflict

*f you have a modem installed in your computer along with the networ9 card for either your 1able or (S6 modem then it may cause conflicts. We recommend that you remove the modem from your computer completely or at least disable it so there is no conflict between the modem and your networ9 card.

Winmodems or Emulation-8ased Modems

Winmodems or emulation-based modems are software2based and can cause numerous connectivity problems not :ust in our game but also in general. The reason is because the 1'< is being used to EpumpE the data in a software modem as well as its other calculations. When playing a game the 1'< may not be able to ma9e the necessary game calculations 7F( transmit data. We strongly recommend against using them.

*f you e=perience occasional loc9ups during *nternet or modem play using this modem in <S@ mode in Windows 98 you can solve this by using a Serial cable to connect your modem instead of a <S@ cable. This may be resolved in a future modem driver or Windows 98 update.

Confi, ure (our *ire4all or Router for Internet "laHirewall software is designed to prevent hostile action from outside your computer or networ9 from affecting files on your hard drive. *nternet gaming activity can seem li9e such action to this type of software. #ostin, Multiple Dedicated Ser0ers

When hosting more than one dedicated server on a system behind a firewall or pro=y you will need to open additional ports along the same range. *n addition to opening port 0000 you must open port numbers 0008 0009 008% etc depending upon the number of servers that you are hosting. *f these corresponding ports are not opened clients cycling maps and;or clients :oining these servers may see issues due to mismatching between the different servers being hosted.

#ostin, Dedicated Ser0ers 8e/ind *ire4alls or !ATs

When hosting a dedicated server behind a Hirewall or F7T you may need to put your computer on the (!Q of your router or use port forwarding. The (!Q option is easier to set up than port forwarding but it e=poses your entire computer to the *nternet. Your firewall cannot provide security on the (!QU so placing a computer on the (!Q should only be done on a temporary basis. 'ort forwarding may be difficult to configure but it provides a safe way of running a server from behind a firewall because only a single port "or small series of ports# is e=posed to the *nternet. 'lease refer to the list of port numbers noted above for the appropriate ports to open.

Routers
*n general they should be able to connect to the game without modifications needed to the router. 5owever if you are e=periencing connection problems and are using a router we suggest bypassing the router and connecting directly to your connectivity device. *f your problems cease while bypassing the router you can try these thingsA * Try resetting your router to its default settings. * 1hec9 your router manufacturer8s website for any available Hirmware updates. *f available download and install those.
