Mayor Burcroff Gives State of the City Address


Romulus Mayor LeRoy Burcroff is celebrating the success of the city over his first few months in office. Burcroff made his first state of the city address during the Romulus Chamber of Commerce Business Luncheon held on January 14th at the Marriott Hotel, Detroit Metro Airport. out to businesses each month as department head meetings go on the road, visiting a different business each month. The road visits will allow department heads to learn more about local businesses and let business people know whats going on in the city. This was one of the largest gatherings for a Romulus Chamber luncheon. Those in attendance heard a message that was upbeat and positive.

The Mayor spoke about improved customer service, reestablishing a parks and recreation program and fast tracking new development in Romulus.
His address also focused on restoring public trust in city government, creating a new community outreach department, enhancing several sections of the city and several other topics. EQ, a local Romulus business, has made a donation toward worthwhile projects at the Romulus Public Library. The Environmental Quality Company presented a check for $1,000 to Library Director Patty Braden, who will apply the donation to one of several projects that benefit the public. future that the company wanted to help the library director reach her goals.

Friends of the Library and the city came through to save it. Patty has some great ideas going forward. In fact, wed like to encourage other business and groups in the city to support this valuable asset in our community. Braden is seeking funding for the following projects: 1. Digitize the Romulus Roman newspaper. 2. Create an adult literacy program and increase adult and youth programing. 3. Renovate the interior of the building.

Thank you to our friends at The Environmental Quality Company for their generous donation to the Romulus Public Library, Braden said. We appreciate our partnership with EQ and their desire to encourage others to support the library. Zuerner, who is on the Board of Directors of the Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce, said he learned about the librarys needs at a Chamber luncheon. EQ supports Little League baseball, the annual Romulus DDA Pumpkin Fest and other efforts. He said the library is a great cause.

Judge Brian Oakley Named 2014 Person of the Year


Just prior to introducing Mayor Burcroff at the January Business Luncheon, Romulus Chamber of Commerce President Dave Goodwin (far left) and members of the Person of the Year Selection Committee announced that the 2014 award was going to Judge Brian Oakley (center). Oakley has been active in the community for many years. He is involved with the Community Assistance Foundation (CAF), the Romulus Parade of Lights, active in his Rotary Club community projects, helped with food distributions sponsored by the United Methodist and Wesleyan Church, and has traveled to Haiti on disaster relief projects. Details on the Person of the Year Awards Banquet will be announced soon.

Links at Gateway Joins the Romulus Chamber!


Links at Gateway is the newest member of the Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce. The golf course is owned and operated by the ross family. They have been in the golf business for over 40 years and have owned and operated courses all over Michigan Links at Gateway is a championship style layout that measures just over 6,842 yards with forgiving bent grass fairways and large greens. Chamber Members Join in Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration


On a cold January 20th morning, hundreds braved the wind and cold and joined in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Celebration Day walk from the Romulus Middle School to Romulus High School.

Led by Rev. Arthur Willis, a longtime Romulus Chamber member and the Chairman of the MLK Jr. Day Organizing Committee, hundreds completed the journey to a pancake breakfast served by the Romulus Rotary Club (Chamber Members).
U.S. Rep. John Conyers served as the keynote speaker. It was a great day for the City of Romulus!

WCCC and Romulus High School Early College Program


Romulus Chamber member Wayne County Community College Western Campus and Romulus High School have teamed up and are now offering (for the second year) a Romulus Early College Program for high school students. Interested students and parents or guardians are invited to attend one of two information sessions (February 4 and 6) at Romulus High School, 9650 Wayne Road, at 7:00 p.m. The sessions will explain how students can get an early start on college at no charge while still attending high school. Thirty-eight students now enrolled at RHS are participating in the inaugural year of the early college program. Each semester of their junior year, the students take three classes at the high school and two classes at the college. As seniors, the students will take two classes per semester in high school and three at the college. In the 13th year the students attend one class at the hi gh school while enrolling in four classes at the college. This tuition free program will save students an estimated $10,000 while earning them 60 to 62 transferrable credits and/or an associates degree.

State Representative Doug Geiss to Speak at Romulus Chamber Luncheon


On February 17 the Romulus Chamber of Commerce Business Luncheon will feature State Rep. Doug Geiss.
