Nelson Mandela (1918-2013)

A look back at the life and career of Nelson Mandela....

Christ and sought to live her life modeled after His own. A self-proclaimed "people person," Marian created family wherever she went. She could spend five minutes with a person and know almost every detail of their life. For 25 years, she used this talent as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. She also followed this calling throughout her life when she became a stewardship director for St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Richmond, VA, sales consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics and a whole host of department stores. Her family likes to say, she could "sell ice to an Eskimo," but to her it was about connecting people. Marian was a strong, independent woman who valued education and a good work ethic. An avid reader and lover of historical fiction, one book at a time was never enough. In her final days, she was drawn to the stories of her childhood home of Charleston, S.C. Marian treasured her family and friends. If you ever were blessed to meet her, she considered you a friend. On the hospital floor, she earned the nicknames "Sweet Pea" and "Glamorous Diva," for which she was very proud. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Bon Air United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. where the family invites friends and relatives to celebrate the life of Marian Phillips Bailey and her amazing journey through music, worship and the sharing of personal anecdotes. A small reception with refreshments will follow at the Church. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Francis Memorial Hospital and Bon
