H11 Visible Grid Curtain Wall

Curtain walling is a grid-form glazing system that gets its name from the fact it is non-load bearing and is often hung from a buildings structure. Although this is not always the case, the curtain wall grid can also be dead-loaded. Each suppliers visible grid curtain wall suite works around three basic elements; 1) A back box which determines the rigidity and structural span capabilities of the system, 2) A pressure plate which is mechanically tensioned to retain the glass and 3) A face cap to give a neat external finish. The major differences between these systems is how they drain; they can either be zone/transom drained or mullion drained. For transom drained curtain wall systems drainage holes are routed out of each transom face cap to allow water to drain through the system. This mechanism is called 'zone' drainage as any water is drained out of the transom above each pane of glass. For mullion drained systems, water is channelled along the transoms and down the curtain wall systems mullions. This method is often the preferred application for medium to high rise glazed screens which can be difficult/costly to clean regularly i.e. it reduces the potential of water markings on the glass. Curtain wall screens can be faceted to varying degrees, raked and can be designed on either a positive or negative gradient provided sufficient structural support is available. H11 Trame Curtain Wall

Dortechs Trame systems can either be applied vertically or horizontally. The systems are generally specified when building designers wish to create enhanced vertical or horizontal emphasis in a curtain wall screen. This is achieved in the following ways: Trame Horizontale (as pictured on the right): An aerofoil external face cap is applied to all horizontal sections of the curtain wall screen. This cap generally extends 80mm out from the glass face. Further extension is made possible with extension pieces. Vertically, the face caps are removed and replaced with either a flush fitted gasket or silicone application. Trame Verticale: This curtain wall system works on the same basis as Trame Horizontale however the emphasis is placed on the vertical sections which have aerofoil face caps instead of silicone/gasket. The horizontale sections have either silicone or a flush fitted gasket applied to them. References and Standards: CWCT, NBS H11, NBS L40, BS6180, BS6399

H11 Structural Silicone Glazed Curtain Walling

Structural Silicone Glazed Curtain Wall systems can be used to create a flush-fitted glass facade. The appearance of structural glazing is achieved by using profiles that are only visible on the room side. From the outside, only the glazing and the slender shadow joints are visible. The gap between each piece of glass is approximately 25mm (this can vary slightly depending on system) in comparison to the 50 60mm site line prevalent with traditional, visible grid curtain wall systems. There are two main types of SSG system Dortech offers; The first (see Broadgate image) is based upon specialist double glazed units which are manufactured to include an SSG spacer bar and incorporates a U channel. Structural silicone is used to bond each piece of glass to the spacerbar. The second (see Darwen Academy image) utilises traditional double glazed units manufactured with structural silicone. Aluminium carrier frames are then bonded around the perimeter of each piece of glass with structural silicone. On site, the perimeter frame is locked into the curtain wall grid and then silicone is applied over the gap between each piece of glass.

L13 Bolted Glass Assemblies

Dortechs glass and steel bolt assembly system can be suspended or stacked. It can be fixed back to structural steelwork, Glass fins, tension trusses & cable nets. With structural glazed systems, the glass becomes self-supporting and therefore only needs to be fixed at certain points, without the need for all-round support. The glass is fixed to the supporting structure using spider-shaped, articulated metal units. The sealing of the surface of the facade in this case depends on the glass and is achieved by means of the sealant surrounding the glass panels. The product is ideal for facades, glass bridges, internal partitions, shop fronts, balustrading, glass canopies & roofs.

The final product has a Completely Flush external appearance, Clean lines with no intersecting mullions or transoms.
The system Maximises light transmission and has a range of mechanical fixings to suit aesthetic objectives. References and Standards: NBS L13, NBS L40, BS6180, BS6399

H11 Hybrid Curtain Wall and L10 Window Suite

In addition to our existing range of high performance aluminium products we now offer a range of extremely high quality composite windows, doors and curtain wall. The aluminium exterior gives a solid, external face to the window that is extremely durable. It's ideal for locations that are hard to reach (e.g. flats) or where the time and cost of maintenance are a burden (e.g. schools). The durability of the aluminium window exterior makes the Hybrid a popular choice where weather conditions are particularly harsh, such as seaside locations. The aluminium comes in any standard 'RAL' colour of your choice (contact us for details). The Hybrid window is a cost effective alternative to a Scandinavian competitors window products, but is manufactured in the UK, with improved sightlines, consisting of 51mm to the outer profiles and 102mm at the intermediate mullion and transom position. Sightlines are consistent regardless of fixed pane or opening sashes. Our Hybrid Window has been tested to BS7950 and BS6375 Part 1 and Part 2 Specification for enhanced security performance of windows. References and Standards: NBS L10, NBS L40, BS6180, BS6399

L13 Channel Glazing

Dortech has built up significant experience in the design, delivery and installation of Glass and Steel Channel facades. Our channel glazed system is ideal for environments that require large display screens such as car showrooms and retail environments. Each piece of glass is held in place with perimeter steel channels and intermediate sections are silicone sealed. The project pictured on the right had a value in excess of 200k and was completed within a one week period. The largest pieces of glass weighed in excess of 300Kg. Automated 'armour plate' doors were used for each shop entrance and specialist 'goal post' panels and louvres had to be imported from Belgium. All steelwork and aluminium flashings were finished with a 'gun metal grey' anodised finish. Mechanical glass lifting equipment was used throughout the project. If you require any assistance in developing a bespoke glazing solution for your project, please contact our technical team who will be more than happy to help.
