Preface
We want to express our experience and practical knowledge that we gained during the summer
training at GODEREJ & Boyce Mfg.Co.Ltd.
It was our first experience when we went to the market not to buy any thing but to do the survey
and to promote the sales of the product in the market. The basic need of the survey is to ensure
about the policies and the strategies in the market. On first day we were nervous, but because of
the good image of the GODERJ in the market the people attended us positively. Many people
came themselves to us for knowing the details about the product.
For accomplishment of the project report we daily think about the conditions and views and then
we used to compose the whole thing on computer. In making the project report theoretical
knowledge was needed more than the practical which was given to us by our Professors in our
….
In the market the experience relating to the practical knowledge was very good which realized us
about the real conditions of the marketing.
The study was restricted to the Government and Private Offices in ……. City. Of course all care
has been taken and an attempt has been made to give as much clarity and conclusive evidence as
possible within the short tenure of the study.
The project flows logically consisting of market research, data collection method and
questionnaire. It is hoped that the findings and the suggestions will help the company,
confidently to formulate its strategy in comparison to its competitors. We have enjoyed our
summer training at GODREJ and have learnt lots of new things, which will be helpful to us
during our work in any organization. We thank GODREJ for giving us this opportunity at their
office and being good to us all the time.
We promise our help wherever needed to the company, We also yearn to work for the company
in future. We hope the administration to think over our work for a while.

About Godrej
What's in a name, you might ask. Until you come across one that evokes pride and confidence in
the heart of every Indian, seemingly blessed with a rare, almost magical, power. It is the name
Godrej
Ardeshir Godrej
(1868-1936)
He was the first Indian manufacturer to displace well-entrenched foreign brands from the market.
The word Godrej, etched into the metal of his locks, became a symbol of self-reliance for the
generations that followed
With each new product Ardeshir changed perceptions about industry in India. He produced the
finest security equipment, and then stunned the world by creating a soap from vegetable oils.
What started as a dream had become a movement. But it was left to another man to carry it
forward. Ardeshir's brother, Pirojsha
Pirojsha Godrej
(1882-1972)
Pirojsha Godrej laid the foundations for a throbbing enterprise at a sprawling industrial garden
township outside Mumbai. It was here that the Godrej vision took concrete shape. In later years,
its extent and scope was expanded greatly by his sons - Burjorji and Naoroji. To this day,
products that compete with the best in the world continue to emerge from the gates of
Pirojshanagar
Burjorji Godrej
(1915-1994)
Godrej touched the lives of millions of Indians everyday. To them, it is a symbol of enduring
ideals in a changing world. Every product, every new concept gives shape to their visions of
tomorrow.
Naoroji Godrej
(1916-1990)
The Godrej name yields powerful influence even in today's rapidly transforming social and
economic environment
As it strides ahead confidently, discovering diverse new roles for itself, it gives direction to
others.
It is the bridge between the future and a hundred years of history. It is a living code of ethics for
Indian industry as it races ahead.

RESEARCH DESIGN
(OR RESEARCH METHODOLOGY)
To manage a business is to manage its future& to manage future is to manage information.
Marketing research; is the systematic design analysis & reporting of data & finding information
relevant to a specified marketing situation facing the organization (or company).
METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION
The collection of data refers to a purposive gathering of information relevant to the subject
matters.
The method of collection of data depends mainly upon the nature, purpose and the scope of
inquiry. Statistical data may be classified into primary and secondary data.
PRIMARY DATA
Primary data are those, which are collected afresh and for the first time, and thus happen to be
original character.
SECONDARY DATA
Secondary data are those which have already been collected by someone else and which have
already bee n passed through the statistical process. It has two types.
1. Public data
2. Non- public data
XEROX 69 %
CANON 18 %
RECOH 2 %
SHARP 5 %
TOSHIBA 2 %
HP 4 %
TOTAL.......... 100%
FINDINGS
After completing the survey and analyzing the responses of the persons contacted. We came
across the following facts: -
1. A large number of Government Organizations are using Xerox photocopier and are quite
satisfied with the performance of the machine. Approximately 96% of the government
organizations are using Xerox photocopier.
2. Majority of the respondents in the survey were found reluctant about giving details to us.
3. Existing customers of Xerox are satisfied with after sales services, with few exceptions.
4. Spare parts of Xerox photocopier are easily available.
5. The overall percentage of Xerox users is 56% followed by Recoh. Sharp, Toshiba, Hp, Canon
etc
6. In private sectors canon gives cut throat competition to other brands because its recondition
machines are easily available at a nominal price.
7. Customer think that brand name of the company can influence their purchase decision.
LIMITATIONS
Though we have made our best efforts to make the study fair, transparent, error free, but there
might be some inherent limitations. Throughout this project we tried our level best to make this
report most accurate but there were some limitations, which are as follows:
This fieldwork is confined to a single city Allahabad only therefore study does not reveal the
exact market condition.
The sample size is very small.
Information may or may not be authentic, as the surveyors were not provided complete
information in every organization.
Human error is unavoidable.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Godrej should hold more seminars, conferences and workshops for promoting its products and
generating more clients.
Godrej should also emphasize on advertisement of its products and services.
Godrej should provide information time to time to its customers about its new collaborations
with other companies like Xerox.
Xerox Corporation should introduce customer relationship management (CRM) system to be in
touch with customer and to know their grievances.
Due to global integration the competition has increased a lot. So to stay ahead in this cut throat
competition Godrej in collaboration with Xerox Corporation has to increase its customer loyalty
and sales promotion schemes.
CONCLUSIONS
XEROX CAPTURES THE LION’S♣ SHARE: The study reveals that Xerox corporation
captures the lion share of about 69% in the market of photocopier machines out casting all
competitors far behind.
PERFORMANCE OF THE MACHINE: As after♣ survey the market I found that the
government organizations using Xerox machine from last 5 to 10 years are satisfied with the
performance of the machine.
• USER FRIENDLY MACHINES: After conducting the market survey we come to conclusion
that the customer wants user friendly and easy to operate machines so that he may not have to
incur any extra cost in operating that machine.
• PRICE OF THE MACHINE: Price of the machine is comparatively higher than other brands,
which is a major factor due to which Xerox lags behind in private sectors.
♣ PHOTOCOPY REQUIREMENTS MET FROM MARKET: Only 6% of the sample size does
not have photocopier machines. Either they are small organizations so that they cannot afford the
expensive photocopier machines or their photocopy requirements are very less.
MAINTENANCE AND HANDLING♣ COST: Maintenance and handling cost of the Xerox
photocopier is very high comparison than other company’s photocopiers and government
organization has to invest a large amount of budget on its maintenance.
