Music is a form of sensory stimulation that provokes responses due to the familiarity, predictability and feelings of security associated with it. Another advantage of this therapy is that it is a non-verbal type of therapy, as opposed to other types of therapy where the client talks about feelings and experiences of life. Divided into four parts, this book talks about various aspects of music therapy. In short chapters, Menen explains its history, different methods, its working and effect on human mind and body. He has even given references of the doctors and other people who are working in this field. Music therapy can be practiced in many ways. For instance the therapist and the client may compose music, lyrics, and songs to express particular feelings. One may learn to play sitar or piano to improve fine motor skills while another may use instruments to improvise unspoken emotions. Singing develops articulation, rhythm and breath control. However, knowing how to play or sing is not necessary factor to undergo therapy. You dont have to be an expert musician, Menen emphasizes. Simply listening to the music with interest and concentration is sufficient. But one should know the method and duration for which music therapy is to be administered. There is no one type of music that is healing. Author advises to listen to a wide variety of music and pay attention to how you respond with your whole being: mind, body and spirit. Listening to your kind of music at specific times of the day has been shown to be helpful in maintaining good health.

Can you please suggest me the Naturopathy treatment for my chronic Boil problem? Pradnya, Mumbai A Boil, also referred as skin abscess is nothing but a localized skin infection. The general site of infection is within the hair follicle. One another seen commonest, is the infection of the clogged oil ducts of the skin, called as Acne. Similarly depending on the site of the infection there are different nomenclatures for this skin infection. Folk medicine claims it as a resultant of excess of heat in the body. Naturopathy considers, this as an attempt of the body to eliminate the toxins deposited in the body, by forming pus. The boil when small and firm, opening and draining it is not advisable. However, once the boil becomes soft or forms a head, when pus collection is noted in the boil, it can be drained. Most small boils, such as those formed around hairs, drain on their own with localized heat application. Larger boils when it is associated with fever, there should be medical intervention.

in the market, as almost every item has toxic chemicals in the name of preservatives. The key treatment for most boils is the local heat application, usually with hot packs. Heat application increases the circulation to the area and allows the body to better fight off the infection by bringing inherent antibodies and white blood cells, the innate infection fighters, to the site of infection. The heat will thereby cause the boil to erupt and heal faster. Application of mud is another good remedy for these boils. It generally clears the skin pores and invigorates the circulation to the applied area. The eliminatory channels are thereby stimulated which would be evident with the sweating which appears thereafter. Inducing sweat through steam bath is a method of promoting the eliminatory process through skin. A healthy individual has sweating even with little physical warm up. On the contrary, individuals in any diseased state rarely sweat. Thus sweating is considered as indication of health and promoting it to happen every day ensures purification of blood from its toxins through skin which in turn results in keen and supple skin. Turmeric is most effective against boils. It can be applied directly to boils in the form of paste mixed with plain water. Turmeric and neam leaf paste can be applied for the non-erupting long-standing boils. The action of both those herbs is through their antibacterial potencies. Washing and covering the affected area with tea tree oil and a bandage also promotes healing of the boils. Along with preliminary Yoga practice, the cleansing procedures in Yoga like Kapalbhati, Vaman dhouti, Neti and Nauli shall be performed for sustained benefit.
Poor personal hygiene being common among the cause, frequent washing with water should be the first resort. Cold Water with pressure in the form of shower and douches shall be applied for the basic cleansing purpose. If the boils are recurrent and scattered throughout the body, it is to be understood that the blood is vitiated. In such cases, getting rid of those circulating toxins is the first line of treatment. Fasting with tender coconut or fruit juice for a minimum span of three days or as per the individuals endurance along with enemas is to be undertaken first to cleanse the system. We are coming across different serious examples of child crime in the schools of different countries. The perception of a child actually develops against crime by getting exposed to it and their psyche works for revenge in a different manner, by doing another crime. In addition to making them clear about right and wrong, it needs a drastic change in the society if our future generation is to be preserved humanly and kind. We take them away from nature with fast food and air conditioners. What about their artistic taste, which blooms the best, in the shade of nature? It is at the cost of momentary comfort, sometimes but their acquaintance to life and universe is much more important than that. Being close to nature, happens to be a unique solution for health issues and creation of positive attitude in childhood. We need to find some more time for them to analyze how to provide them best, to live joyous childhood. We need to take the responsibility to set their mind in a positive direction not with artificial but natural means. iabetes has become the biggest scourge of modern times. It is a disease which virtually takes away the joy of Living, and also leads to many other serious diseases. Diabetes is spreading very fast throughout the world, but Indians are the biggest victims of this disease, lakhs of Indians suffer from this disease and India is considered as the capital of Diabetes. Earlier diabetes was restricted to big cities in India, but now it is spreading fast even in smaller towns and villages. Also earlier, only adult populations suffered from diabetes but now even children are becoming prone to this disease. Diabetes is a disease of excess sugar level in the blood, or more appropriately, GLUCOSE is the very foundation of life. Glucose is always present in the blood, but within certain limits this is the source of our energy. But when glucose increases beyond specified limit, it creates problems, creates diabetes. Excess blood glucose level means that the glucose is not being absorbed by the body, and it starts flowing out through urine. Our body, mind and brain work on the basis of glucose only, as glucose gives us energy. But How? When we eat food, and food is digested, it is converted into glucose which in turn gets converted into energy.

When we eat food, it goes firstly into the stomach, where it is thoroughly churned into thick gravy with the help of Hydrochloric Acid, peptic acid and other enzymes. This process takes about six hours. Thereafter, this thick gravy like fluid goes into small intestines very slowly. Small intestine is sub divided into three parts. The first part is called duodenum which is Cshaped. As soon as food enters into duodenum, liver releases Bile and Pancreas release insulin and some other digestive enzymes and they get mixed up with the food. It is with the help of these enzymes that food is converted into glucose. This process takes about eights hours. Afterwards the large intestine (colon), extracts glucose and throw all the waste in the form of stool. This glucose contains not only sugar but also other nutritive juices. When this glucose gets mixed with blood, it releases in each and every cell of the body wherein glucose is converted in energy. Each cell acts like a mini furnace cell mitrochondria where oxygen burns the glucose to create energy. In this whole process of glucose formation, the conversion of glucose into energy; pancreas and liver plays very important role. Liver and Pancreas work together to maintain an optimum level of glucose in the

blood. After eating food, the sugar level of blood goes up automatically. But excess sugar is converted into glycogen by the liver and stored. As and where, the energy level of body goes down, this glycogen is reconverted into sugar by the liver. But, where the pancreas secrete less insulin (as in type II diabetes in adults), or fail to produce insulin at all (as in type I diabetes in children), this whole process gets disrupted. Liver is not able to convert excess sugar into glycogen, as a result of which, excess sugar is discharged out through the urine. Conversely, when sugar level goes down, one feels fatigue and weak, as there is no reserve of excess sugar in the form of glycogen. Process of burning of glucose in the cells for production of energy is also disrupted and therefore the supply of energy to various parts of the body is affected. When this goes as continuously for many years, the different organs of body start decaying. Firstly feet then eyes and kidneys are affected. When the glucose (sugar) level in blood goes up, kidneys have to work extra hard to throw out the excess sugar. There are two kidneys in our body, each having about 10 lakh nephrones which filter the blood and remove all waste or harmful materials from blood. When kidney has to work hard, the heart has also to work more, raising the blood pressure. After some years, the nephrones get blocked due to high sugar levels of blood and the patient has to go for dialysis. More than one-third of all dialysis patients are diabetic. The diabetic patients also suffer from silent heart attack, without any pain in the chest. Diabetes is a disease of prosperity. As income rises, we tend to live luxurious life styles; we hardly do any physical work, as well physical work is done by machines, and we become sitting creatures at home, in cars, offices, etc. And this gets compounded by our eating habits, eating more junk food full of fat and

salt, and also eating at wrong hours, particularly eating late at night. The quality and quantity of food we eat is the most important factor in our health and the food has to be fully digested. This is the crux of the problem. Not only do we eat junk food, at odd hours, but even the quantity of food intake has increased, creating an imbalance between Input and Output. According to a survey done by the Diabetic Foundation of India in 2011, the middle class in India is eating four times more food than required. This is astounding. Not only are we eating much more, we are eating wrong food like junk food (which is deprived of Nutrition and Fiber), fruit squashes/artificial fruit juices, cold drinks etc. The food eaten in excess is not digested, and causes diseases and puts lot of pressure on the digestive system. The main reason for eating more is, we eat in a great hurry, without chewing the food properly in the mouth. We swallow large morsels of food, without chewing them properly, because we are in a hurry. There is no time to eat food properly. For swallowing, we drink water with food, which further weakness the digestion. When we eat hurriedly, we are bound to eat in excess. And excess food makes us weak, fat and sick; it increases acidity which leads to all diseases, including diabetes. When we eat hurriedly, the mouth does not produce sufficient amount of saliva. Our mouth is capable of producing two liters of saliva daily, and it contains lots of essential digestive juices. Saliva is considered to be the best natural remedy and best natural anti-biotic. It is completely alkaline and when it gets mixed up with food as chewing, it reduces acidity of the food. Saliva contains two wonderful enzymes, Lysozyme and Immune Globulin which protect us from infections (from germs present in food and these two enzymes are not produced anywhere else in body. and eat hurriedly the mouth is able to produce only 250 milliliters of Saliva eight times less than required. This increases the acidity of food manifold, putting severe strain on liver, pancreas and kidneys. The bile produced by liver and insulin produced by pancreas are alkaline, to neutralize the acidity of food which enters small intestine, otherwise the small intestine linings get damaged. When the food acidity is increased manifold (due to less production of saliva as hurried eating) pancreas are required to produce much more insulin. Our food has become highly acidic, particularly the soft cola drinks; their acidic content (pH value) is 50,000 times more than natural value Over a period of time, the pancreas get damaged. Indiscriminate intake of soft drinks coupled with intake of excess junk food sets the stage for diabetes even amongst children. Our body performs all its functions through muscles, whether it is walking, sitting, hearing, seeing, speaking, heartbeat, digestion, etc. But muscles work well only when they get exercised regularly. Lack of exercise makes the muscles stiff; they lose their elasticity. When we do not do exercise, the pancreatic muscles, the liver mussels (as all other muscles of the body) stop functioning properly and they do not produce sufficient juices such as bile and insulin. That is why, the diabetes patients are always advised to walk briskly for at least an hour daily. Overeating of food coupled with lack of exercise make our digestive system very weak and set the stage for all stomach disorders, including diabetes. If we learn to chew our food thoroughly well, we can get rid of diabetes very quickly and permanently. Chew food so thoroughly that the food becomes like water in the mouth itself. Food chewed well will be converted into glucose in the mouth itself. You can do this as experiment. Take one morsel of Roti (bread) in your mouth and chew it very well till it is completely dissolved; at the end you will feel a sweet taste in your mouth. This is glucose. When this glucose is mixed with saliva in the mouth, there is no need for Insulin for its

absorption in the blood. This is really exciting and wonderful that, you will require little or no insulin for absorption of sugar, and thereby you get rid of diabetes without daily intake of insulin injections or medicines. However, it is extremely important that food is chewed very thoroughly in the mouth. For this you have to avoid soft drinks, spicy food, and taking water with food. Eat Roti made out of coarse grains like Grams, Ragi, Bajara, Jawar, Makka, Soyabean and coarsely ground wheat. They are very easily digestible, highly nutritious and full of fiber. Do not eat refined grains, rice and fruit juices at all. Be sure that you chew your food so well that it takes at least twenty minutes to eat two Rotis. If you do so, your mouth will get tired, you will eat much less, but since glucose is formed in the mouth itself, you will feel more satisfied and more energetic. This will lead to great reduction in the number of calories consumed by you, and will greatly improve your digestive system. Take meals only twice a day in the morning and

evening around sunset by 7 pm. Take only boiled vegetables with meals, but no lentils (Dal). Your vegetable should not be overcooked and do not take stale food at all. In between the two main meals, eat only salads and fruits. Salad like Raddish, Carrots, Cucumber, Tomatoes and Beetroot at around noon as much as possible. Eat sour fruits in the afternoon, fruits like Guava, Oranges, Kino, Raspberries, Jamun phalsa and Chakotra. Chakotras are extremely useful in diabetes; take 3 Chakotras daily one each in morning, afternoon and evening. Take 2 Guavas. Must eat green leafy salad also, but chew everything thoroughly. Take at least two to three liters of water daily. Water should also be taken very slowly, sip by sip, while sitting so that, saliva gets mixed with it.

T he rainy season comes just after the hot summer. It begins in the month of July
and lasts till the end of September. It brings relief both to nature and to man. Just after the first shower the earth cools down. The unbearable heat of summer begins to disappear with the advent of the rainy season. It cools the atmosphere. It makes us fresh and gay. At the arrival of monsoon, the weather changes. We get relief from the scorching heat of summer. The sky becomes cloudy.
The sun is hidden behind the clouds. Some times it pours down, some times it showers, some times there is no rain and the sun is bright hot. Monsoon is very charming to human. It is a season of love. The earth wears a green look. But monsoon also invites fungi, bacteria, Viruses and insects too. It also brings many diseases. If we do not take precautions, we get ill soon.

What to do?
Eat only moderate quantity of food. Fill half of your stomach with food, fill one-fourth of it with water and let one-fourth of it be free for circulation of air. Eat only fresh and warm food items. The food should be light, easily digestible, less oily and less spicy. Clean your hands before eating. Fast once a weak. Drink plenty of hygienic water. The water should be boiled and distilled or purified by good water purifier. Eat plenty of green vegetables and seasonal fruits. Wash all vegetables and fruits throughly with warm water. Wear clean and dry clothes and use mosquito nets. Keep physical exercise at moderate level. Perform pranayam everyday. Take body massage with oil everyday. Bathe in fresh & clean water. Take proper sleep daily at night. Maintain hygine to strengthen immune system. Keep you surroundings clean & dry. Take one glass boiled & cooled water with 1tsp lemon juice & 2 tsp honey daily in the morning on empty stomach. Burn dry neem leaves & loban in the house to keep it mosquito free.

Syn Tanacetum cinerariaefolium trev.) is one of the oldest known, ideal, naturally occurring insecticide and certainly the most widely used botanical insecticide. The pyrethrins are extracted from the flower heads (capitulum) of the plant. Pyrethrins are non toxic to mammals and other warm blooded animals and has a quick knock down effect on a wide range of insect species and can be safely used in kitchens. Restaurants, food processing factories and in other sensitive environments. The Pyrethrins break down quickly in sunlight and is non persistent in the environment. Pyrethrins have shown minimal insect resistance.

The main pyrethrum producing countries of the world are Kenya, Tanzania, Australia, France Chile, Ecuador etc. Kenya is the worlds largest producer of Pyrethrum and 75 percent of the world production is produced annually there. Attempts have been made at different occasion to grow Pyrethrum as a commercial crop in India. The earliest report is from Saharanpur garden. The authorities the potential of the plant simply raised it with other plants and consigned it to herbaceous border. According to available reports experimental cultivation started in Kashmir in 1931, while according to some it was done in 1941 and in Nilgiri hills a few years before the second world war. In 1937 Indian Council of Agricultural Research revived interest in pyrethrum with purpose. The council recommended that coordinated experiments should be carried out at suitable places to find out of it could be produced economically.
