International Food Risk Analysis Journal

Editorial
The International Food Risk Analysis Journal (IFRAJ) was launched in September 2011 in the spirit of international editorial and scientific cooperation and with the objective of becoming a reference tool that would allow the international scientific community to keep abreast of the latest developments in the area of managing and assessing risks related to food chemical, microbiological and nutritional safety issues. Our desire was to make available an Open-Access journal that published articles in both English and French. Unfortunately, we clearly underestimated the volume of preparatory work required in order to produce such an ambitious scientific journal on a regular basis. Having launched IFRAJ without having access to a veritable reservoir of publishable material will hopefully be seen as an error of inexperience, which we attempted to correct during 2012. As a result, we now have access to an adequate volume of material in order to consistently publish articles throughout 2013. These articles will address some public health issues that are common to a variety of countries as well as include original studies related to the assessment of risk in the areas of food safety and nutrition. Therefore, in 2013, you can expect to see a series of publications that address such diverse topics as the assessment of risks related to the consumption of energy drinks, the appropriateness of certain health claims associated with specific food ingredients, and even exposure studies pertaining to certain nutrients or food contaminants. In addition to a new start, 2013 also represents an opportunity for IFRAJ to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the main body responsible for implementing the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme, which held its first session in Rome between June 25 and July 3, 1963. Since its inception, the Codex Alimentarius Commission has developed numerous food standards, guidelines, codes of practice and other related documents that are used on a global scale as reference material by major international food safety organizations. The Commission has not stopped growing in significance over the years in terms of protecting consumers and ensuring fair food trade practices around the world, and it remains a very active player in this area, as evidenced by the many scientific and regulatory articles that refer to its work on a regular basis. The Editorial Management Team and the members of the Editorial Committee wish you good reading. Samuel Godefroy, Ph.D. Paul Brent, Ph.D. Sbastien La Vieille, MD, MSc. Co-Editors in Chief
