PRODUCTS AFFECTED / SERIAL NUMBERS AFFECTED: imageRUNNER ADVANCE C2030/C2020 SUBJECT: Measure to Prevent E020-0360/ E020-0391/ E020-03b1 (Black Toner Sensor Electrostatic Buildup) After replacing the Toner Feed Assembly, please review the additional steps to perform on page 8 of 8. GENERAL: Measure to prevent E020-0360/ E020-0391/ E020-03b1 error codes due to electrostatic buildup on the black toner sensor during shipment. DETAILS: <Symptom> Error codes E020-0360/ E020-0391/ E020-03b1 may occur due to electrostatic buildup on the black toner sensor. E020-0360: Low density of the target during patch detection. E020-0391: The average value of the detected inductance sampling value is equal to or higher than the specified value. E020-03b1: Error in detecting the delta T/D ratio (T/D ratio detected by the ATR Sensor is equal to or lower than the specified value). <Cause> A false detection may occur due to an electrostatic charge within the light-emitting/-receiving section of the black toner sensor [3], which is located in the area where it receives toner from the toner bottle leading in too much toner adhesion. Because of this, toner supplied to the black developing assembly becomes insufficient resulting in an error.

Service checks to help address an E020-0360/ 0391/ 03b1

The following checks can be tried to help with E020-0360/ 0391/ 03b1 error codes. 1. Upgrade the System Software to the countermeasure version. * System v20.70 or higher, which has a DCON of v40.03 or higher 2. Check the value in [COPIER > Display > DENS > DENS-K]. * If an E020-03b1 has occurred, the value of [DENS-K] becomes higher than -5%,

3. Make the following selections in sequence: [COPIER > FUNCTION > INSTALL > SPLY-H-K]. 4. Press [OK].

5. [START] is displayed in the blank field instantaneously and [OK] is then displayed.

6. Open/Close the front door and insert the door switch tool into the door detection switch. [A] *The copier immediately starts supplying toner to the buffer. *The toner supply operation is completed within 40 seconds. (During this period of time, check to see if the toner bottle rotates intermittently. [B] If the toner bottle does not rotate, suspect another problem is occurring.)

7. Place a blank sheet of LTR-size paper on the copyboard glass, and output 21 images. *This is performed to supply toner to the P-cartridge. 8. Check the value in [COPIER > Display > DENS > DENS-K]. * Check to make sure that the value of [DENS-K] is closer to 0%. * Even after outputting 21 blank images of LTR size paper, the value of this service mode item may not be close to 0%. But the value will be closer to 0% as the copier is used. 9. If no problem is found within 21 blank images, make a copy of a CA-1 test chart and check to see if the density is normal; if normal, finish this procedure. 10. Check to make sure that toner is supplied without failure. 1. Output 2 sheets of Bk PG-5 image alone using LTR-size paper. [255] 2. Check to see if the Bk toner bottle rotates intermittently for a minute or two during outputting or after outputting. [B]

11. Remove the door switch tool and close the front door.
12. If the error code is still being displayed, continue to the Servicing section regarding the

replacement of the Toner Feed Assembly below. SERVICING: If the Toner Feed Assembly requires replacement because of E020-0360/ 0391/ 03b1 error codes due to the toner bottle not turning or toner depositing at the toner sensor, follow the instruction below. Note: Before going through the preparation steps below, please reference the Service Manual to gain access the Toner Feed Assembly. <Preparation> 1) Remove all Drum Units. 2) Remove the ITB Unit. 3) Turn OFF the power. 4) Remove Cassette 1. 5) Remove the Front Cover. 6) Remove the Left Cover. 7) Remove the First Delivery Tray. 8) Remove the Toner Bottle Mount (black). Procedure for removing the Toner Feed Assembly: 1. Remove the stopper and remove the link stick in the direction of the arrow ([1] Counterclockwise [2] Pull out).

6. Turn the toner feed assembly counterclockwise and down while pulling it slightly toward the front.

7. If the toner feed assembly is turned, the claw [9] may hit against the PCB behind the assembly. To prevent this, pull the assembly toward the front slightly while turning it right and down.

8. Reassemble all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.

9. After replacement of the Toner Feed Assembly is completed, start the host machine. 10. Execute Service Mode: COPIER > FUNCTION > INSTALL > SPLY-H-K

Added

After execution, toner is supplied to the hopper unit when warm-up rotation is performed. (Warm-up rotation is performed by opening and closing the Front Door or turning OFF and then ON the Power.) SERVICE PARTS:
