Dear Mr. Swofford,

The flag raising at Fort Ross California on June 11 2009 celebrates the America500 Birthday Vision
for the "Bring Home the Spirit of History" national mission. The learning initiative is recognized by
the 110th Congress as House Resolution 287 America, celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the new
world being named America. Martin Waldseemuller [16th Century Cartographer] recognized the
astronomer and explorer Amerigo Vespucci's new, accurate measurement of the earth's circumference,
that led to the inference of this land mass as distinct and separate from the east as well as defining the
Pacific Ocean on the other side to the west. The first actual "global view" of our world. Martin created
the word "America" from Vespuccis' name Amerigo.

The communitywide mission of the award year and flag raising in communities is to increase our
awareness of those who came before in our own locale, thus "Bring Home the Spirit of History."
Regarding this event the Fourth Grade students from Gravenstein School Sebastopol started making
preparations a month in advance of the ALTA CALIFORNIA2009 CULTURE CAPITAL award
and flag raising. In the presence of the Russian Consul firing the cannon at this organizations
request, the students and all present helped open the local "Fort Ross" window for learning.

The historic "Alta California" term in this flag design is to bring a historic continuity and egalitarian
emphasis to our self image. The term "Cultural Capital"continues this theme as we are all "the
culture" in expression of our skills talents and creativity as individuals in a larger community of equals.

The photo rendition of the event had strong visual impact but had little to do with the flag and the
opportunity to know history or this organizations role in it. There there was no mention of this charities
work obtaining press releases for the photo, arranging for the Consuls presence on National Russia
Day as well as having flags and donated cake whipped cream and strawberries. These events, the
raising of flags and awareness are in support of a local understanding of people through time beyond
the geo-political boundaries that flags usually declare.

Thank you for the strong photograph and hopefully, in the future, a clear story regarding our mission
and celebration.

SharePassion! Celebrate America! Know Your Story!

Max Schoenfeldt,
This unique opportunity needs your action to energize elected officials and residents for community service.
- share the passion for California as heritage destination that produces worldwide publicity.
- locally increase profits and increase knowledge as residents celebrate our heritage.

Timing is critical. We have the unique opportunity with the award, energizing our economy to increase profits
and knowledge. Cork, Ireland enjoyed a 10% increase in revenue as the 2005 European Culture Capital. It
starts now with March California Arts Education Month, April World Geography Month and September California
Birthday Extravaganza. Our work in fifty towns implements the award from the America500 Birthday Organizing
Committee for the 2009 Edition “Bring Home The Spirit of History” to show the global connections in Golden State
History. Senate Resolution 33 Pacific Maritime Routes serves to improve education with new content. In every
region of California, we’re working to open local windows and explain the knowledge framework of investment,
global expansion of transportation, rise of agriculture and commerce, and cultural settlement-migration.

Share the passion! Celebrate the Alta California 2009 Culture Capital of Award. Support the “goodwill”
alliance for local government to boost free enterprise and community service. Raise the flag! It flys as an
official event of H.Res. 287 “America.” (Ask about other photo “living history” opps for publicity that tellsour
story.) Inspire, as a role model, communities with the Governor’s Photo-In-History for global public-relations,
marketing and education,, resulting in the economic expansion of our Golden State image. The 2009 Culture Capital
of Award is the moment to distinguish the California brand. Join in. Help “open doors” with this call-to-action for
public and private cooperation of our cultural capital to increase revenue and knowledge. Raise the flag!

Energize the public’s thirst for knowledge and the arts,
