NARRATIVE REPORT Infectious/Philhealth Section Exposure ______________________________________________________________________

Communicable disease according to Cuevas (2007), are the most leading causes of illnesses in the country today, and the role of public health nurse is in the prevention and control of these diseases. Last week of exposure at City Health Office Tayabas and we were assign to our last area, in the Infectious/ Philhealth Station. Since that this is our last week I still aim of taking full pack knowledge and skills. On our first day, after we had morning routine of dusting on working area, and as Mr. Gerald S. Ramallosa arrived he oriented us about the activities done or infectious section, different forms, and he lecture us about rabies. HE included in the discussions something about the definition, signs and symptoms, mode of transmission, management, prevention and categorization of rabies. In addition he also discusses the National Rabies Prevention and Control Program Rabies Exposure Registry, admission of patients in Animal Bite Treatment Center. As patients arrived he let us to fill up the different forms including Registry and Rabies Post-exposure Prophylaxis Card. Then we are the one who prepared the Purified Chick embryonic Cell Vaccine (Rabipur) and observed the intradermal injections done by Mr. Gerald (Hira). It is also a good part that we were given chance to do the interview for admission and administered the tetanus toxoid. I appreciate the techniques given by Mr. Gerald while providing immunization. In addition we had 3 patients with measles, trough assessment weve found out that the 3 Cs (coryza, cough and conjunctivitis) were very evident with these patients. Sir Gerald fills up and discussed the case investigation form and he said that the blood taken to patients will be brought to RITM. Day 1 and I easily got the flow of the work in Infectious Section. During the post conference we had our quiz about vital statistics and I am gratified that we were reviewed again about this topic. It is only the Day 1 but I had lot of learning for this day.

For the 2nd day, we had same routine as first day, admission and administration of Anti-Rabies vaccine. Since that Mr. Gerald had meeting, we took the opportunity to help the other workers in their paper works like encoding the vital statistics for year 2013. In the afternoon we went to BHS Angeles and Angustias for Pap smear. At first I feel awkward because the women who went for examination feel awkward too due to my presence. After we prepared the instruments, we assist Mr. Gerald in smearing the slides. I learned techniques on inserting the speculum, and doing the smear. Like Mr. Gerald said men are not typ9icallyb allowed to observe the pap smear, he just let me to observe it and he told the registered sexual workers that I was studying medicine. Ms. Em em and I divide the number of smearing the slides. Chances like this come only once so again I am delighted that I experienced and learn different procedure again. On our last we accommodated almost 10 patients only because Mr. Gerald became busy on Taytsinoy. And we just complete the documentations assigned to us. I am thankful that until the very end of the exposure at community. I was able to gain Skills, Knowledge and Attitude of a Community Health Nurse.
