Born in Antwerp in 1958 Grandfather & Father were Tailors Mother collected antique lace and linen Apart of the Antwerp Six Freelance Designer since 1976 Launched First line in 1986 His line was sold into Barneys of New York , Whistles in London, Pauw in Amsterdam

Fashion designers who graduated from Antwerps Royal academy of Fine Arts between 1980=1981. In 1986 the group went to London Fashion Fair to showcase their distinct collections Walter Van Beirendonck Ann Demeulemeester Dries Van Noten Dirk Van Saene Dirk Bikkemberg Marina Yee

What are Van Notens main influences?

The list is extremely long. Various different people have inspired me throughout my career. From Francis Bacon to Vassareli, Coco Chanel to Christian Dior, Cecil Beaton, musicians, architects the list is endless. When we were studying at the Royal Antwerp Academy we were taught to seek inspiration from everyone, everything and everywhere. My parents and grandparents were also a great inspiration for me at a very young age.
