Wide-Area Illumination
SSG combines advanced technological masts with highquality, state of the art lighting from renowned brands to ensure an economically efficient and technically sophisticated illumination concept. Our strengths are systems which are perfectly tuned to your requirements, minimizing unwanted light emissions and keeping energy costs as low as possible. Photometric calculations are carried out and highlighted by the respective lighting manufacturers suitably qualified for the job in hand. These are invaluable in determining the location, number and height of floodlight masts, taking into account logistical and photometrical aspects. Our masts can be equipped with the latest plane projectors for the surface area and high performance lamps for stadium use; furthermore, mirror reflector systems are available for logistics areas and LED technology for background lighting and traffic signs. Positioning the light sources in the ideal locations for work, logistics and sports areas means that light emissions can be reduced and the illuminated areas are made safe, with unrestricted usage and easy access. The fulfilment of work objectives is thus supported, whilst performance and productivity are enhanced. We manufacture our products according to your individual requirements and CI, in tune with the overall architectural planning for your project. Technical development and manufacture of the various systems takes place in our own steel construction works in Hennef near Cologne, in conjunction with architects, lighting designers and lamp manufacturers. The products are then assembled, installed and serviced on site. Developments in lighting technology are constantly monitored by our team and evaluated in collaboration with our customers so that maximum advantage can be gleaned from the newest concepts available or tried and trusted methods to minimize initial and follow-up costs.

Advantages

Mirror Reflectors
For the illumination of wider areas with specific requirements concerning the overall design, where glare reduction and low mounting heights, as well as uniform lighting, are important considerations, we recommend mirror reflector systems. Mirror reflector technology consists of reflector panels and spotlights. The spots concentrate the light and direct it with calculated precision onto a mirror field of high-quality reflector panels, which in turn yield perfectly aligned, uniform lighting distribution onto the area or playing surface. Thanks to the diffraction of light, glare is significantly reduced in contrast to direct lighting. Furthermore, the exact calibration of narrow beam spotlights and the reflector panel field means that undesired light emissions can be minimized. SSG mirror reflector systems provide especially even surface lighting with a wide radius of up to four or five times the height of the mast. For example: a 14 m mast = lighting radius of approx. 60 m Of course, we will be happy to design mirror reflector systems to your specific wishes and requirements.

Direct Lighting & LED

Direct Lighting guides the light via precisely calculated mirror and lens optics into the desired symmetrical or asymmetrical channels directly onto the surface area. It is designed to keep glare and unwanted light emission to a minimum. Due to the angle required to minimize glare, higher masts can, in certain cases, be less advantageous than mirror reflectors or LED systems (e.g. if height restrictions apply). The most advanced HCI/CRI or NAV lamps provide the light source, guaranteeing excellent light yield with low energy output. This system makes it possible to light one half of an area or field, or to lower the degree of illuminance, although this can diminish the even quality of light distribution across the field. Investment costs, on the other hand, are low compared to LED and mirror reflector systems. Energy costs, however, are considerably higher than those generated by LED technology. LED technology utilizes the latest in high performance LEDs as a light source, achieving an ideal light yield with an extremely low energy output. Glare and light emissions are again minimal compared to direct lighting. Due to their clear-cut design, both systems can be perfectly integrated into the architectural environment and are particularly long-lasting. Of course, we will be happy to design plane projector- and LED-systems to your specific wishes and requirements.

Elevatable & Lowerable Masts

Broad expanses such as airport aprons or football stadia, where the potential sites for floodlight masts are at a premium, tall, cantilevered, high performance floodlighting systems are essential. Masts with a pivotable joint in the lower or middle portion of the mast, elevatable and lowerable either hydraulically or mechanically, not only make maintenance easier, but also blend the masts, in their lowered state, more readily into the environment. The mast is activated by hydraulic cylinders or pump/power units. Smaller masts can be operated manually by means of a track jack. Alternatively, we can also provide lowerable lighting housings which can be winched up to the top of the mast, or lowered to facilitate maintenance checks on the system or lamps. Solid Mast Construction

We differentiate between solid mast and lattice mast construction. In the case of solid masts, we utilize tubular steel sytems with round, polygonal, cylindrical or graded (segmented) cylindrical segment cross sections.

Lattice Mast Construction

As an alternative to solid masts, lattice mast constructions comprise section and bar steel or tubular steel. The choice of system is made in accordance with your needs, requirements and design preferences.

Illumination of Airport Aprons

For the illiumination of national and international commercial and military airports, we develop specific lighting systems utilizing tall masts. Both our direct and indirect lighting systems, whichever may be appropriate to the specific conditions of professional workplace lighting, conform to the latest regulations governing airport facilities. Our range of products, with direct, anti-glare spotlights and mirror reflectors, also meets international airport standards (commercial and military) in terms of design, height and features.

For the management of maintenance work on such floodlight systems, we have developed elevatable and lowerable masts which can, for example, be raised and lowered from a central control point to save space. These masts can either be tilted hydraulically or mechanically and are, like all of our mast systems of course, adapted to suit the exact requirements of each airport. Work on the floodlights can be carried out simply and easily thanks to the lifting technology and can also be meticulously synchronized to take-off and landing schedules without disturbing air traffic control.
