RESOLUTION: High Quality Life for DeKalb

High Quality Life Consortium issues a petition and resolution to DeKalb County Soard of Education in an effort to reclaim our neighborhood schools and ensure a high quality education for our children. We strive for full transparency, ethics, and accountability of issues that adversely affect our children, schools, and community. High Quality Life Consortium issues this Resolution to elected officials hired and fired with our votes, and paid with our tax money to ensure a high quality of life and education for our children and community. WHEREAS: The mission of the DeKalb County School System (DCSS) is to form a collaborative effort between home and school that maximizes students' social and academic potential, preparing them to compete in a global society. DeKalb County School System (DCSS) strives to ensure fiscal responsibility in order to maintain safe and healthy learning environments that support academic programs, resources and services. The Georgia constitution states "the provision of an adequate public education for the citizens be a primary responsibility of the state of Georgia". And, WHEREAS: The state of Georgia, presently under Governor Nathan Deal and the Georgia General Assembly, has removed over $100 million per year from DeKalb County's school system to 'redistribute' to other school systems throughout Georgia. The state of Georgia has removed over $100 million dollars of our collected tax money per year since 2006 under the outdated OSE formula under the local 5-mill share tax and out of control 'austerity cuts' from DeKalb County School System. The state of Georgia placed over 70% of the Refugees in the Clarkston Cluster of the DeKalb County School System without sufficient finances for supportive services. Now, THEREFORE: We call DeKalb County School System to rebuild public trust with parents, homeowners, voters by ensuring transparency, ethics, and accountability. taxpayers and

We call on the state of Georgia (Governor Nathan Deal and the Georgia General Assembly) to stop removing over $100+ million dollars per year from the DeKalb County School System under the local 5-mill share tax until the outside school systems reach 20 mills. We, the undersigned, are concerned taxpaying citizens, businesses, churches and/or organizations. We have signed this resolution in support of $100+ million dollars being restored to DeKalb County School System (DCSS) through removing DCSS as a tax rich donor county under the OBE formula, local 5-mill share tax.
