Shower cubicles are semi-permanent units fitted with a roof, which are free-standing. Shower cubicles are self contained and therefore no tiling is required. Normally installed within 1-2 days, no floor excavation (other than to connect gravity waste versions) is required and a ramp is provided. Removable for recycling.

Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 (updated 2005) Approved Document M Sanitary accommodation in buildings other than dwellings design guideline considerations
Part M of The Building Regulations Approved Document M 2000 (2004 edition) Access to and use of buildings contains a section entitled Use of guidance. It is stated in this section Approved Documents are intended to provide guidance for some of the more common building situations. However, there may well be alternative ways of achieving compliance with the requirements. Thus there is no obligation to adopt any particular solution contained in an Approved Document if you prefer to meet the relevant requirement in some other way. Chiltern Invadex often receive enquiries from Specifiers/Architects relating to the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) asking if the company can supply DDA compliant shower trays and enclosures? It is important to note that the DDA merely stipulates a duty not to discriminate against people with disabilities and as such a physical product cannot actually be compliant with the DDA in a very straightforward sense. The reality is that the DDA is attempting to anticipate demand in both a physical and managerial way. This does not relate to domestic settings as the DDA is relevant for existing or new build public buildings, often described as buildings other than dwellings. In all cases, rather than trying to draw a solution for all it is good practice to ascertain (if at all possible) who the end user will be when specifying a product. Obviously, as the installation may well be non-domestic this can prove to be virtually impossible. However, if there is a specific end user then a bespoke solution would be the most suitable option. As stated, if this is not the case and a general demand is predicted then some compromises may well have to be made.
Shower tray threshold heights

Part M of The Building Regulations Approved Document M 2000 (2004 edition) is based on The Code of Practice BS8300 2001, where there is no specific statement relating to a shower tray threshold height. The nearest information for guidance is a stipulated door threshold height, this being 15mm.
Wet floor system

Chiltern Invadex provide the EasiDec range of wet floor decks, which offer a totally true level, flush access, with the floor being contoured to suit. This is obviously dependant on the construction of the floor but is ultimately achievable. In all common building installations the Approved Document stipulates that no specific solution has to be adopted if the main criterion are met in another way. Basically this relates to the fact that the guidelines do not have to be strictly adhered to but are stated for advisory purposes.
Wet floor system installation
Wet floor decks provide a gentle slope to a floor gulley and once installed and finished with a slip-resistant vinyl flooring, such as Altro, they become virtually undetectable to the untrained eye. It may well be that any kind of threshold step does not want to be incorporated in a potentially slippery environment. A wet floor/wet room installation offers possibly the best solution although site conditions play a major part in what will ultimately be specified. Again, it must be stressed that this only relates to public buildings (existing and new build) and not to the domestic environment.
DDA SUMMARY
In all instances regarding the DDA Chiltern Invadex suggest a Wet Floor EasiDec System is fitted WITHOUT a door/ panel to ensure maximum accessibility. This is pictured above. However, the decision on the selection of either a Wet floor System WITHOUT a door/panel (DDA compliant) or with an enclosure, or alternatively a Level access shower tray and enclosure (which may both be suitable non-DDA compliant alternatives) will rest ultimately with the Specifier. The
Level access range is not considered to be DDA compliant as the package incorporates an enclosure.

Support rails/Assistance aids
In all instances, to aid people whilst utilising these facilities, it is necessary to provide support rails. These can take the form of hinged arm supports, grab rails and backrest for a WC, if applicable. The finished installation would then go towards complying with the duties of the DDA.

All Chiltern Invadex Level access shower trays, that is the Sandwell, Westdale and Cardale ranges, installed correctly, have a maximum 15mm threshold height. The Level access range is not considered to be DDA compliant as the package incorporates an enclosure. However, a tray option may be a more preferable solution for visually impaired users, as this defines the showering area more clearly. In all instances regarding the DDA Chiltern Invadex suggest a Wet Floor EasiDec System is fitted WITHOUT a door/panel to ensure maximum accessibility. However, the decision on the selection of either a Wet floor System WITHOUT a door/panel (DDA compliant) or with an enclosure, or alternatively a Level access shower tray and enclosure (which may both be suitable non-DDA compliant alternatives) will rest ultimately with the Specifier. IMPORTANT NOTE The Level Access Shower tray range is supplied as a kit, including the door enclosure. The door enclosures have been designed to be used in conjunction with the tray. Chiltern Invadex recommend the tray is fitted with the door enclosure supplied. The Whale waste outlet and pipework can be sited into the screed requiring only a 45mm depth, therefore unaffecting a typical in-situ RC suspended floor and/or pre-cast concrete floor. ! Quiet gulley ! No set up required - plug and play ! No flow sensor/flow switch to fit ! The Whale Instant MatchTM automatically adjusts the pump speed in relation to the flow rate of the Mira Advance Extra Shower, as illustrated below.
