November 8, 20131 Kiara McLane Manager, Starbucks 52 Mavis Road, Mississauga, Ontario L4T 7M72 Dear Ms. McLane3, I am a grade 11 student at St. Joseph Catholic Secondary School. I am writing to you to express my interest in joining your staff. I read your job posting for a barista on monster.ca. I feel that my skills set and experience would make me an excellent barista for Starbucks.4 As a barista, it is important to have good social skills to interact with customers. At my school, I have had the opportunity to develop these skills effectively. Last spring, I volunteered as the snack shop vendor at my school. During my lunch I would sell snacks to my fellow students. I had the chance to not only deal with transactions, but to enhance my sociability. I feel that these skills will be an asset at Starbucks, a company which prides itself on customer service.5 I also have some experience in the coffee preparation industry. When I was in grade 9, I worked at Tim Hortons for a day on Take Your Kids to Work Day. Working under my mothers supervision, I prepared several orders, including regular coffee, caf lattes and cappuccinos. Both the manager and customers were impressed with how quickly and adequately I addressed orders. 6 Another reason why I would be a good fit for Starbucks is my ability to work well with others. As a member of a rock band, I have collaborated with other members by writing songs and performing on stage. This skill is transferrable to the Starbucks environment because I notice that the baristas and cashiers work together to deliver the best service to customers. I feel my experience in a band has provided me with the vital skill of teamwork. 7 Thank you for taking the time to look at my application. I look forward to the opportunity to meeting with you to further discuss my suitability for this job. Please feel free to contact me at (647) 902-9022.8 Sincerely,

D Smith
