The Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine is factory-built by Cummins and is used in a wide range of heavy-duty applications.
February 2014
At the SAE 2013 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress, held in October in Rosemont, IL, industry participants in a Blue Ribbon Panel on natural gas were unanimous in their belief that standards will help the industry to more quickly embrace natural-gas-based technologies. In response to the heavy-duty trucking industry need, the SAE In-
ternational Truck and Bus Council launched an effort to establish relevant SAE standards. All interested parties involved in natural gas standardization are invited to contribute to this development through active participation. For more information, please contact Jana Wright at jwright@sae.org.

This vehicle donation is part of GMs ongoing support of the SAE Foundation. GM has long sponsored the SAE Foundation and SAEs STEM outreach programs. In addition to financial support from the GM Foundation, GM provides more than 1500 mentors and volunteers who help reach nearly 85,000 students participating in SAEs A World in Motion K-12 programs.
We are extremely grateful to Cadillac, the outstanding team at Barrett-Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Whited, and McCaddon Cadillac of Boulder for their incredible generosity and commitment to STEM education in the U.S., said Lori Gatmaitan, Director of the SAE Foundation. Collectively, they are helping to deliver quality STEM programming in the classroom and helping to ensure the next generation of professionals has the skills and education necessary to compete on a global basis.

Created in partnership with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) offers inner-city youth the opportunity to participate in a three-week science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) summer camp. Camps were held in 10 U.S. cities in 2013.
The SAE Foundation seeks to provide a network of resources, mentors, and real-world opportunities to help develop a workforce that not only reflects our nations evolving demographic but also maintains our global competitiveness. The SAE Foundation accomplishes this by engaging and nurturing minorities with special program initiatives that reach all students regardless of school funding and cultural concerns.

These initiatives use SAE Internationals A World In Motion (AWIM) curriculum to engage students in science and engineering at a critical time in their development: learning years K-8. AWIM challenges students to work in teams to solve problems and create products while discovering the underlying math and science principles involved in the process.
