1 Configuring WMG Interconnections

1.1

Introduction
Interconnections between Wireless Media Gateways (WMG) are maintained in the Nodes section of the Wireless Element Manager (WEM) under WMG Interconnections.
Figure 1-1: WMG Interconnections Tree Structure.

The following interconnections may be provisioned under the WMG Interconnection group: Intra WSS: interconnections between WMGs controlled by the same Call Server. Inter WSS (BICC): Bearer Independent Call Control (BICC) interconnections between WMGs controlled by different call servers. Note: Inter-WSS interconnections are no longer supported, and will not be addressed in this document. The menu is currently non-functional, and will be removed in future releases. It is mentioned here for reference purposes only. IWF Interconnects: InterWorking Function interconnections.

1.2.1

Provisioning Intra-WSS Group Interconnections

Group interconnections are primarily used to define the source and destination nodes and trunk group for the Intra-WSS spans.
Step 1.Select Nodes>WMG Interconnections>Intra WSS>Group from the navigation tree. Step 2.Either right click Group and select Add, or click the Add button at the bottom left corner of the GUI. The system responds with General tab in a new WIZARD window.

Figure 1-2: Group Interconnection General Parameters

Note: Admin State is a read-only field which specifies the state of the interconnection.
Step 3.Select one of the following options from the InterConnection Type drop-down:

TDM: Specifies a TDM interconnect. VoIP: Specifies a Voice over IP interconnect. NB Over IP: Specifies a Nb Interface over IP interconnect.
Step 4.In the Group Name box, enter a name to identify the group. Step 5.In the Trk Grp Selection Order box, enter an integer to specify the selection order of the trunk group. The Facility Manager uses this number to determine the selection order of trunk groups between the same pair of MGWs. The maximum value is 255.

Step 6.Select one of the following options from the Trunk Test Type dropdown:

None: No milliwatt testing is performed. Loop MW (no call): Select this option to send a MilliWatt tone from one side, will create a loopback on the other side and will wait to hear the tone on the same side that it is sending the MilliWatt tone from. Send/Receive MW (no call): Select this option to send a MilliWatt tone from one side and will wait to detect it from the other side. No loopback is created. Note: This field is blanked out if VoIP or NB Over IP is selected for the Interconnection type.
Step 7.If NB Over IP is chosen as the InterConnection Type in Step 3, select one of the following options from the Default_NB_CodecType dropdown:

CODEC_NOT_SPECIFIED: No codec is specified. G 711 64k A LAW: G.711 is an ITU-T audio companding standard. This option specifies the rate at 64kbit/s and for use with a-law. A-Law is used in Europe and the rest of the world, besides Japan and North America. G 711 64K M LAW: G.711 is an ITU-T audio companding standard. This option specifies the rate at 64kbit/s and for use with mu-law. Mu-Law is used in Japan and North America. GSM EFR: This is a speech coding standard that was developed to improve the GSM-Full rate codec. GSM EFR enhances sound quality, by providing a rate of 12.2 kbit/s. UMTS AMR: Adaptive Multi-Rate is an audio data compression standard that is optimized for speech coding. UMTS AMR coding scheme is specific to UMTS. UMTS AMR2: Adaptive Multi-Rate is an audio data compression standard that is optimized for speech coding. UMTS AMR2 coding scheme is specific to UMTS that is TFO and TrFO compatible.
Step 8.If UMTS AMR and UMTS AMR2 is specified in Step 7 as Default_NB_CodecType, select one of the following options from the Default_NB_CodecBitRate:

GPP_BIT_RATE_4_75KBPS_SUPPORTED: Indicates AMR mode 0, with a 4.75 kbps bit rate. GPP_BIT_RATE_5_15KBPS_SUPPORTED: Indicates AMR mode 1, with a 5.15 kbps bit rate. GPP_BIT_RATE_5_90KBPS_SUPPORTED: Indicates AMR mode 2, with a 5.90 kbps bit rate. GPP_BIT_RATE_6_70KBPS_SUPPORTED: Indicates AMR mode 3, with a 6.70 kbps bit rate. This is PDC-EFR standard.

GPP_BIT_RATE_7_40KBPS_SUPPORTED: Indicates AMR mode 4, with a 7.40 kbps bit rate. This is the IS-641 Codec in TDMA. GPP_BIT_RATE_7_95KBPS_SUPPORTED: Indicates AMR mode 5, with a 7.95 kbps bit rate. GPP_BIT_RATE_10_2KBPS_SUPPORTED: Indicates AMR mode 6, with a 10.20 kbps bit rate. GPP_BIT_RATE_12_2KBPS_SUPPORTED: Indicates AMR mode 7, with a 12.20 kbps bit rate. This is the GSM-EFR standard.
Step 9.Click on the > button, the system responds with the Connection tab.

Step 10.Select a WMG node from the Node drop-down in the First section. This will be the first end of the interconnection. Step 11.Select a trunk group from the VoIP Trunk Group drop-down located in the First section.

Note: The trunk groups numbers in the VoIP Trunk Group drop-down are intra-WSS VoIP trunk groups configured in the WMG selected from the Node drop-down. For instructions on how to configure these trunk groups, refer to the section Configuring an Intra-WSS VoIP Trunk Group, in this user guide.
Step 12.Select a WMG node from the Node drop-down in the Second section. This will be the second end of the interconnection Step 13.Select a trunk group from the VoIP Trunk Group drop-down located in the Second section.

Step 14.Click Apply. The system responds by adding the group under Nodes>WMG Interconnections>Group.
