ALANA (ASIAN, LATINA, AFRICAN, NATIVE AMERICAN WOMEN)


This organization provides social, academic, and political support to women of ALANA (Asian, Latina, African, and Native American)
descent. It encourages academic excellence and social outlets, and also educates members on campus, community, and national issues.
All are welcome. Major programs for this coming school year include the Phenomenal Women Dinner, Self Defense Instructional
Program & other collaborations.

ASO (ASIAN STUDENT ORGANIZATION)


The Asian Student Organization provides Asian students with academic, cultural, and social opportunities. ASO provides academic
support to its members by holding study sessions, tutoring, and attending educational workshops or conferences. The organization offers
cultural enrichment by bringing together Asian students interested in sharing their cultural differences. ASO provides social opportunities
by assisting Asian students in adjusting to the campus and associating with other students. The primary programs for this school year will
be the two Talent Shows, one featuring musical, sing and spoken word talent while the second will focus on the talent of dance. ASO will
also lead the Multicultural Day event and participate in several collaborations.

BSU (BLACK STUDENT UNITY)


A multicultural organization, Black Student Unity promotes awareness of national issues through a variety of formats to foster the survival,
success, and development of students. The major programming functions for BSU will be two DJ Dance Bashes, an evening of
Reflections of Ebony with Dinner & Performance, a black history movie night, a central role in hosting Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu amongst a
number of other collaborations.

HOPE (HMONG ORGANIZATION PROMOTING EDUCATION)
This organization aims to educate the college and La Crosse communities about the Hmong presence in La Crosse. We hope to educate
others about the Hmong, the language and culture, and try to bring both the Hmong and American communities closer together. HOPE
also hold free cultural tours at the October La Crosse Hmong New Year in West Salem and coordinate an annual Hmong Cultural Night
performed with traditional theatrics and folklore stories. HOPE also organizes fundraising events, participates in charity and various
volunteering activities as well as collaborates with many other organizations.

LASO (LATIN AMERICAN STUDENT ORGANIZATION)


The Latin American Student Organization fosters and promotes the Latin American culture throughout the campus and La Crosse
community. We serve as medium of cultural exchange between other ethnic groups on campus and bring together Latin American
students who are interested in learning about their heritage. Every year LASO plans and presents several all-campus events such as the
Day of the Dead display and lecture, a Latin American/Latino film series, distinguished speakers on Latino issues, and the annual FIESTA,
featuring dinner and entertainment.

NASA (NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION)


NASA is an organization whose members are students and community members. Goals of NASA members are to support each other in
educational, social, and cultural endeavors. Members range from strongly traditional to non-traditional. NASA organizes events for
Native American Heritage Month, an awareness week, and the annual Three Rivers Pow Wow. Two of NASA’s specific events include
the Rethinking Thanksgiving Program & Dinner and ACT 31: Widening the Circle Conference.

SASO (SOUTH ASIAN STUDENT ORGANIZATION)


Inactive for Fall 2009

The purpose of the South Asian Student Organization is to educate the UW-La Crosse and greater La Crosse community about India,
Pakistan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and their perspective cultures. Activities are planned, such as discussion panels, a food
festival, showings of South Asian movies, and henna decorating, in order to allow students to experience these cultures first hand.
