Lasallian relief efforts yield P5M for Yolanda survivors

recently announced that, as of December 17, 2013, resources extended by the Lasallian community to those affected by typhoon Yolanda has amounted to P5 million. P2.5 million came from individual donations while another P2.5 million was donated by the administration, partly from savings in the cancelled Institutional Christmas Party. 11,100 family relief packs, 60 sacks of toiletries and slippers, 450 sacks of clothes, and 103 boxes of bottled drinking water were distributed. In addition, De La Salle Philippines will coordinate with DepEd in identifying schools that it can help rehabilitate in the next two or three years.

DLSU policy pushes for environmental sustainability


Underscoring its commitment to environmental sustainability, De La Salle University celebrated
Environment Weeklast January 13-18 with students and faculty participating in environmental activities and the Campus Sustainability Ofce launching key initiatives. In the third KRA, the University seeks to further The CSO installed environmental learning stations at various locations on campus to provide the Lasallian community information on the various improvements in campus facilities that have resulted in more efcient services and better management of resources. For their part, faculty members were encouraged to engage students with discussions on environmental issues and how to make creative resolutions related to environmental sustainability. Seminars on the environment were also hosted during the week. The efforts were in line with the DLSU Environmental Sustainability Policy, announced by President and Chancellor Br. Ricardo Laguda FSC on October 22, 2013. In the policy, three key result areas (KRAs) are set. The rst KRA on education for sustainable development involves curriculum integration and research. is published bi-weekly by the Ofce for Strategic Communications (AH-21F, intercom 144). Editorial deadline is 3 p.m. Tuesdays. Contributions should include the name, ofce and signature of the sender. Roughly the size of a standard ofce desk, the crawler moves on tracks directed by a remote control operator that uses Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. A mounted camera helps direct the operator, while a remote control correction program ensures that the crawler only sprays precisely where and when it is intended. The National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and Departmentof Science and Technology The Magsaysay Future Engineers Award is a competition that was opened to Bachelor of Science students who are enrolled in an engineering program or related elds of study within the priority areas of DOST. The winning group is composed of research leader Ken Russel Go, his group members: Brent Ong, Kevin Te, Michael Uy, Audrey Virgula, and their thesis adviser and mentor, GCOE faculty member Dr. Nilo Bugtai. (DOST) recognized the project by giving it the rst prize in its Technology Award, also dubbed Magsaysay Future Engineers Award last month.

Last December 10, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation sponsored a seminar on journal publication featuring speakers lr. Dr. Dominic
Foo and Ji Jaromr Kleme. of Information Technology, Veszprm, Hungary. He has a comprehensive industrial experience in process integration, sustainable technologies and renewable energy. In addition, he has a track record for managing 79 major EC, NATO and UK Know-How projects. Ir. Dr. Dominic Foo is a Professor of Process Design and Integration at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus, and is the Founding Director for the Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies. He is leading researcher in process integration for resource conservation. Foo is an active author, with two books, more than 75 journal papers and over 130 conference presentations. DLSUs previous entry to SEM Asia, the DLSU100, is the rst battery-electric prototype vehicle in the President and Chancellor Br. Ricardo Laguda FSC and Pilipinas Shell Industry Lubricants Business Manager Lyndon Lumain joined the team in the launch, which highlighted the Universitys advocacy to nurture young innovators and create environment-friendly technologies for nation-building. DLSU unveils new eco cars


The DLSU Eco Car Team unveiled new additions to its fleet of award-winning cars, the Archer and Delta, on January 7 at the Cory Aquino Democratic
Space of the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall. The eco-friendly vehicles will be competing at the Shell Eco Marathon Asia (SEM) this February 6-9. Category. The Delta, which also runs up to 50 kph, will compete in the Urban Concept-gasoline Category. The latter is the newest addition to the pantheon of DLSU eco-cars.

A new management development program was implemented


in response to DLSUs vision-mission as a leading learner-centered research university that integrates faith and scholarship in the service of society. The Leadership and Management Development Program serves to update participants knowledge, values, and competencies for the formation of learners in the 21st century.

The program consists of seminars and workshops on various aspects of university leadership and management. By adopting different learning approaches and techniques such as lectures, group interactions, case studies, and mentoring, participants are expected to acquire new perspectives on leadership and management. They are also tasked to develop projects that respond to social development needs and are relevant to the Lasallian context.

Participants include academic and administrative leaders and managers. At the end of the program, they are expected to present a project that he or she developed to respond to the needs of the academic community Modules include Foundations of Leadership and Management; Academic Leadership and Management; The University in a Globalizing Society; and The Lasallian Learning Leader or Manager.

The community may now view traffic and road conditions

Full scholarship for CCS PhD Research Apprentice


The College of Computer Studies (CCS) Ofce of Research and Advanced Studies is offering a PhD Research Apprenticeship Program to two outstanding doctorate students enrolled in DLSU. Successful applicants will each be appointed as a research apprentice in a CCS research laboratory. Deadline of application is on April 15. University President and Chancellor Br. Ricky Laguda FSC recently announced the appointment
of Kai Shan Fernandez as Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services, effective AY 2014-2015. Beginning 2 January 2014 until the start of AY 2014-2015, Dr. Leonila Abella, Associate Vice President for Information Resource Management, will concurrently be the Ofcer In-Charge of the Ofce of the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services (OAVPES). Paulynne Castillo, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services (AVPES), has expressed her desire to resume teaching duties and research activities at the School of Economics as a full-time faculty starting Term 3, AY 2013-2014. In the interim, Fernandezwill start attending the relevant coordination and council meetings. She will also be visiting the ofces under the OAVPES as part of the familiarization and consultation process.
