Basic Level 2 24 35 Marks The models have been shown waist up, although each member has been shown, the photo looks squashed and disproportionate. However it will allow the reader to later focus on other parts of the magazine rather than the models with may not be a focus point. A long shot has been used to ensure that the model is shown in full length, this is unusual for a magazine cover and when looking at it overall the positioning ensures that the magazine looks unprofessional. Although only a single long shot camera angle has been used it adds variety to the cover of the magazine, it may attract an audience because they things a model will wear or how they look. However adding only a single artist on the page limits the range of people that will buy the magazine. A mid shot has been used, but as mentioned before the angle of the

Proficiency Level 3 36 47 Marks This magazine cover has made sure that the model is shown in full length; it therefore allows the reader to notice important details about her that may attract their attention. A mid shot has been used for the cover of the magazine, a regular camera angle featured on magazines printed today, it may look professional but the angle of the photo looks amateur and unrealistic as it does not grab the readers attention effectively.

Using A Variety Of Shot Distances As Appropriate

Only a single photo/ camera angle has been taken on the cover of the magazine. Text is used to reference other bands, but having one artist appearing on the cover will allow the reader to focus on the main interest of the magazine issue. This magazine focuses on only one artist as the main interest of the magazine. Other bands that will feature later on are

Sanj Patel printed in text and scatter the page. photo makes the overall appearance of the magazine look unprofessional. A camera, backdrop and lighting equipment have clearly been used in order for the photo to be created, although those who have had previous media knowledge may spot several faults that could have been corrected with ICT skills. A camera and possibly lighting equipment have been used to achieve this photo. The way the band has been positioned has also ensured that the maximum space is used to fit all three members in. However it is evident that the background has been added after the photo has been taken and therefore makes the magazine lack realism.

Shooting Material Appropriate To The Task Set

Selecting Mise-En Scene Including Colour, Lighting ETC

Very little choice has been made when looking at the genre conventions of the magazine. When looking at the magazine title and

A grime music genre is some sense has been achieved. Artists that focus on this genre as shown with very basic clothing as they care

It is evident that a camera, backdrop and lighting equipment have been used from the quality of pictures that have been produced, although the photo has been taken in a unusual angle is shows the detail of the artist and adds an element of professionalism. Although lighting equipment has been used the shadow of the model is still showing on the page, this could be resolved using ICT software unless this shadow was there for connotation purposes. Appropriate camera angles have been used as well as good ICT skills to ensure that the magazine looks aestically pleasing to read. The camera and lighting equipment has helped to ensure that the model looks the best quality has possible. As the artist/ magazine name suggests Roxy Carter is a mainstream artist. She is shown to be wearing mainstream clothing

Sanj Patel other artists that have featured on the page the reader will connote that this people are very feminine and care about how they dress, the model her has shown nothing that is similar to what the artists wear today. On the other hand wearing simple/ regular styed clothing maybe a reflection on her personality. little about their suggesting her appearance. influences are from Although it looks high-street stores. like little care has been taken for the models or facial expressions. Throughout the magazine the model has remained loyal to its focus on its electronic genre convention; through research I have found that artists in this area do not focus on looks which is something that I feel has been done well in this magazine. A plain white backdrop helps to ensure that the model is the main focus for the cover of the magazine. Although when looking in close detail you can see the material used for the background, which therefore lacks professionalism. Looking at the genre conventions of the magazine the grime music genre has been achieve very well. Although it is not presented effectively the depth of the conations in the music style have clearly been shown via the backdrop and way they dress. For the cover and contents of the magazine it is evident that cropping has been used to remove the backdrop during the magazine, looking into the contents the reader will notice that there is also no background helping to create unity between the pages, finally the double page spread

Manipulating Photographs as Appropriate To The Context For Presentation Including Cropping and Resizing

Sanj Patel contains coloured backgrounds which help to create variety between each page. Looking at the cover of the magazine little text has been used, it is evident that the magazine has had inspiration from others of a similar genre from the pull quotes that have been used. This magazine has taken care to find similar articles that would fit in other magazines that have been produced today, the titles are realistic and would be something that a buyer would normally see, the use of pull quotes effectively grab the readers attention. On the other hand you could say that this then lacks variety; there is nothing exclusive about the magazine that helps it stand out from others.

Accurately Choosing Language Register

Bands names have been used to relate the music magazine to the music that they support, also the use of personal pronouns helps to create a relationship between the reader and the text.

The magazine focuses on an electronic genre, references to sub genres are made in the cover and contents of the magazine reminding the reader the focus of the magazine.

Appropriately Integrating Illustration and Text Showing Understanding Of Conventions Of Layout

It appears that no plan has been used for the cover of this magazine, text has been placed with no thought/ collectively in one place, and this may therefore discourage the buyer from the magazine.

A rough guideline of a c plan has been used. Aligning the text on the left hand side of the page helps to ensure that the model is the focus point. Although no plan has been used you can see that the text

Text has been scattered on the page and as a result some of the pictures have been distorted. Although relevant text has been used to promote other electronic artists and gain a wider audience.

Sanj Patel on the page is organised, positioning it on the left allows it to look organised and ensures that the model is the main focus of the cover. A small use of font size has been used, with the main focus being the title of pages. Smaller and less important text has been produced in smaller font size (although the style has not been changed) text which the magazine hopes to grab attention with is printed in large/ bold.

Showing Awareness Of The Need Of Variety In Text Font And Size

On the cover of the magazine a numerous amount of colours have been used, little care has been taken to ensure that each font and colour is readable for the audience, and sticking to the choice of three to four colours have been ignored, the cover therefore looks messy and unprofessional from a buyer and media students perspective. Tag lines that may attract attention have been placed at the bottom of the page away from the readers eye. While only the masthead has a different font from the rest of the magazine making it lack variety and helping to ensure that little attention the magazine will receive.

A three/ choice colour pallet has been used. The different shades in colour work together to ensure particular texts stand out from others. When looking at the font size and variations the reader will notice that artist names are printed larger in order to catch their attention. Approximately two different font styles have been used with a four choice colour pallet. Keeping a set number of fonts and colours helps create unity on the page and helps the cover look professional and interesting to look at. The use of italics and bold uppercase printed letters allows the reader to clearly tell the difference between the artist and the article name. On the other hand some text looks squashed, and for some readers the some font may be hard to reader or the similarities

Sanj Patel between the two may lack variety.

Using ICT Appropriately For The Task Set

Some ICT skills have been used for this magazine, the main example being removing the background of the picture of the magazine to ensure that the graffiti is visible.

A good range of ICT skills has been used in order for a realistic magazine to be created. Although in some aspects the magazine has been poorly created the good use of ICT skills

Sanj Patel A good range of skills have been used. The main part being cropping/ removing the background of images to ensure that it matches the magazines background, ensuring photos look attractive to the reader would also be another thing that has been done well. helps it stand out from lower graded work. Overlapping over text and removing backgrounds is a key skill to create an effective/ realistic looking cover.
