UNIVERSITY PLANNING CALENDAR CLASS OF 2015

Year 2013
SeptemberDecember Pay attention to university related announcements. Make sure you attend all University Counselling office events (esp. those indicated as compulsory). Attend meetings at school with visiting university representatives to learn about as many different universities as possible. Work hard on your courses! Make a genuine effort to get to know your teachers, since they will contribute to your university recommendations. A letter will go out to your parents concerning the PSAT test. October Register for the PSAT test. Take PSAT practice test home to work on a week before the actual test date. Take PSAT. Register online for the November administration of the Chinese SAT* II if you would like to take this as one of your SAT IIs. Registration deadline is early October. Take Chinese SAT II practice test. November December Take Chinese SAT II. Register for the January administration of the SAT I. Registration deadline is third week of December.

If you are planning to apply to Oxford/Cambridge and U.K. Medical Professional Programmes (Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Science), by the middle of March you should: Finalize decision on either Oxford or Cambridge. Make a tentative list of U.K. universities. Submit your Oxbridge/Medical related Personal Statement for Review. Internships (UC Session, Auditorium). 4th University Group Seminar Researching US institutions: Using Naviance (UC Session, Auditorium). Registration deadline for April 12 ACT with Writing. Work, volunteer, study, complete summer course reading. Try to narrow down your list of college possibilities visit some universities if possible. Work on your extended essay; complete your CAS requirements. Fine tune your Oxbridge and/or UK personal statement(s).

Students considering applying to the UK universities should make an appointment with the University Counsellor immediately upon returning to school to discuss and finalize the 5 UK choices. Finish UK personal statement ASAP. Students thinking of applying to study Law or Medicine must decide on taking the LNAT (Law Admissions Test) or the Biomedical Admissions Test and/or UKCAT (UK Clinical Aptitude Test). FYI Normally you should be able to register for the 2014 test from May 1 to September 20. Remember if you are applying to medical schools, which require UKCAT test scores you MUST sit the test on or before October 4 deadline. Out internal deadline for medical applicants is September 19. LNAT For Law applicants we highly recommend you register early to book a test date and sit the test latest by the October 10

Submit the final version of your Oxbridge/Vet Sci/Medical related Personal Statement to your specialist teacher/mentor. Submit your UCAS Personal Statement. Register for UKCAT if you are planning to apply to UK Medical Schools. Register for LNAT if you are planning to apply to certain UK Law Schools. Register for October and/or November SAT I or SAT II and/or ACT with writing. Prepare Early Action or Early Decision applications (Deadlines generally November 1). Work on US college essays. If you are planning to apply to universities in the US, by the end of October you should: Retake SAT I or SAT II subject tests if necessary. Register for November 8 (tbc) SAT I or SAT II if necessary. Prepare University of California applications (due Nov 1-30). Request recommendations from your teachers. (Important! a minimum of three weeks notice is required for your teachers to write your reference). Retake SAT I or SAT II if necessary. Registration Deadline for November 8 (tbc) SAT I or SAT II test date. Take ACT with writing. Submit completed UCAS on-line application for processing. Make sure you have access to US university application forms of schools you intend to apply to. Last day to request any corrections to your transcript and Activities Rsum.

Notify the University Counsellors if you are planning to apply to a HK institution under Fast Track (HKU), Early Decision (HKUST non-binding) and Advance Consideration (CUHK).

November Work on CUHK, HKU & HKUST personal statements. Complete University of California application. November 1 November 3 Early Action/Early Decision US application deadline. Submit US and HK College Essay(s) to University Counsellor for review.

January Complete the rest of the Canadian university applications (for e.g. University of British Columbia, University of Western Ontario). Complete the rest of Hong Kong university applications. Inform University Counsellors of your Oxbridge decision.

* It is the school policy to limit your choices to 10 institutions worldwide. UCAS counts as one and this is also true for the University of California system.

Complete the rest of Hong Kong university applications. Complete the rest of Canadian university applications. Retake SAT I or SAT II if necessary. Inform the University Counsellors of any offers from Canadian universities. Students who are Australian or are holding permanent resident status in Australia need to contact the Australian university directly for home student application forms for the mid-year intake (mid-July 2015). US Decisions arrive.

Thank your teachers for their recommendations. Make your final decision about which school to attend. Notify all universities in writing of your decisions by May 1. Inform the University Counsellors of your decision.

Notify the University Counsellor of your Australian university choices. Submit all completed Australian university applications. Prepare for your final I.B. examinations. Attend University Transition Workshops during the last week of May. Graduation rehearsal. Graduation photographs taken.

May 1 May 26

Candidates Reply Date last day to notify US College/University of your decision. Inform the university counsellors which university you would like your final I.B. results forwarded to. It is crucial that you do this! Last day to reply to UCAS of your UK decisions.

May 29 June 5

Graduation! Notify the University Counsellors of other universities (outside of the UK, US and Canada) you are applying to for preparation of university packets.
