Behavior Management Plan- Andrews Praise and Rewards: Positive reinforcement is incredibly important in the classroom.

A positive attitude will be encouraged throughout teaching and learning. Students will receive positive reinforcement in the following ways: Verbal comments about desired behavior (ex- I like the way is on task and ready to learn or Thank you for being a good role model for your classmates.) Positive comments will noted on students work Positive notes/ emails will be sent home when exceptional behavior has been noticed

Group Rewards: The We have been great! bucket will be used for group rewards. Two plastic buckets will be used, one empty and one full of Styrofoam popcorn. As students demonstrate great behavior, a handful of popcorn will be moved from the full bucket to the empty bucket until the We have been great! bucket is full. At that time, the students will have the choice of a group reward- free game time on the computer, extra recess, etc. Individual Rewards: I will use a token economy-like system in my future classroom. As students are caught being great, they will receive a Caught Being Great slip. These slips can be turned in weekly for a drawing. A couple of slips will be drawn at random for a small prize (pencil, eraser, candy, etc.) from the treasure box.

Behavior Intervention Strategies: Since I want to promote the most positive learning environment possible, already earned rewards will not be taken away for undesired behaviors. Instead, I will curb undesired behaviors by using the following strategies in the following order: 1. Making eye contact directly with the student to let him/her know their behavior is unacceptable. 2. Stand in close proximity to a student who is misbehaving. Often times a tap on the shoulder or quick touch to the desk will allow the student to know they are not on task and their behavior is not desired.

3. Use verbal signals and warnings when necessary. Briefly reminding the students of the rules by saying, I like how table 5 is focused and paying attention will allow other students to check on their own behavior. 4. Individual warnings will be used when the above strategies have been unsuccessful. When a student is not correcting their undesired behavior, they will be directed to fill out a Working to Change My Behavior slip. These will be located on a desk in the corner of the room. The student will fill out the form and have a few minutes to reflect on how they will change their behavior. I will then have an individual discussion with the student regarding their behavior. I will file away the form for documentation.

5. If the private conversation is not effective, a parent or guardian will be contacted. I prefer an email or note home detailing the events of the day and which misbehaviors need to be addressed. I plan to have a good relationship with my students parents and am hoping for support from them when needed. If a note is sent home, a signature will be required and the note must be returned to school the next day. I will save and document all behavior issues, in the students personal folders, as they occur. 6. If the student decides to continue an undesired behavior, and the above strategies are unsuccessful, a citation to the principals office will be documented. The parent/ guardian will be contacted again.
