Specialty & Research Interests

My research spans a wide range in child welfare services, youth work and youth policy
covering Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. The four main themes are: children and
youth services for young people such as children and youth centers services, operation of
youth work organizations, summer programs for young people, youth unemployment, and
development of youth work and youth services; youth policy and youth values such as China's
youth policy formulation, youth participation and legislation, youth problems and youth
policies in various changing Chinese societies, youth support for aged parents, and whole-
person development strategies for young people; adolescent mental health and delinquent
behavior such as youth deviance in China, adolescent mental health in Hong Kong and
Guangzhou, and risk-taking behavior among Hong Kong Dance Partygoers; and social work
education and social work service such as social work education in Hong Kong and Mainland
China, acceptance of social work service, needs for social work services among secondary
students in Mainland China. In recent years, my research has developed a strong comparative
element with a special focus on children and youth policies and services in Hong Kong and
Mainland China.
