What if someone asked you to start a student media organization on campus?!

The Student Media Council has chosen to launch an assessment of the state of student media in two primary areas:! 1) The necessity of student media to adapt to fast-changing dynamics in the communications industry in order to provide a meaningful undergraduate experience and vocational orientation.! 2) The ability of student media to operate in a cost-efcient manner, generating sufcient revenue to satisfy expenses and potentially expand services and platforms.! ! ! ! To that end, the Council will engage in a strategic-thinking shark tank exercise on February 21, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. in LNCO 1100. We invite all students and faculty interested and involved in student media, or interested in helping create a revolutionary experience in student media, to participate in this exercise by submitting and presenting a proposal per the attached guidelines.! ! Our goal is to facilitate a process of strategic development for existing and future media operations. The exercise will be blue sky and zero-based, meaning we want you to envision an organization from the ground up. There are no wrong ideas, no preexisting notions about the concept of student media. All our current operations and new operations will be assessed based on the two areas discussed above. Any and all current products and operations are subject to change, with an abiding respect for the legacy and importance of each element of student media. ! ! All proposals should be submitted by email by Wednesday, February 19, 2014, to Jake Sorensen at jake.sorensen@utah.edu. Following submission, conrmation will be sent to you. You are then invited to attend the Council meeting on Friday, February 21, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. in LNCO 1100 to talk about your ideas with the Council.!
