Introduction
As a marketing and sales plan is crucial to introducing the NextTech Dual, it is equally important that we acquire the proper facility where all employees critical to the distribution of the NextTech Dual can work and function. Partnerships and shipping arrangements must be set in order prior to distribution beginning, as well. We also need to ensure that the necessary staff is hired and trained, with room for employee growth as the sales increase over the years. NextTech must also establish any IT requirements that are imperative to the success of our new product. The following pages will detail the important factors related to the Operations, HR and IT departments pertaining to the distribution of the NextTech Dual.

Full Facility Layout


The facility layout will be a 5000 sq. ft. office space. We will utilize a space in the current NextTech office. They will let us operate out of it for a cost of $7500/month. NextTech has also agreed to let us utilize their warehouse so we can ship all of our tablets. The office will contain enough space for all of the heads of the departments. The sales associates will all have cubicles to work out of within this give space, as well. The finance department will have a separate area within this space to work out of. When you initially walk into the office you will notice a desk where the administrative assistant will be. From there you will have two offices next to each other on the left hand side. One will be for the CEO and the other will be for the President. Then on the right side you will notice all of the cubicles for the Marketing and Sales departments. On the left side just past the second office you will notice a conference room where we will hold our meetings. Heading straight back we will have the kitchen

NextTech Dual: Operations/HR/IT Plan and break area. Going through a door on the other side will be the Human Resources and Operations departments. The finance department will also be located on this side of the building. The warehouse will be the same warehouse that NextTech uses. We will be utilizing this space because of the advantages it has to offer. The first is location cost. We wont have to worry about finding a warehouse to hold our tablets in. We also wont have to worry about hiring extra staff such as security, general warehouse workers, custodians, etc Another advantage is we do not need to have a warehouse yet. We are only distributing one product and until we start to develop more items, utilizing NextTechs warehouse is the best option. Another advantage to using NextTechs warehouse is utilizing one centralized location. Being in the same building as the warehouse helps to maintain our quality control at a much higher standard than if it was offsite. Another advantage this gives us it the ability to track shipping much easier.

Equipment Needed
The equipment that we will need to run the day-to-day operations is as follows. We will need office equipment that will entail office furniture (desks, swivel chairs), office supplies (pens, paper etc), multi-line telephones, fax machines, network capable printers, computers and a copy machine. Since we will be using NextTechs warehouse we do not see any need for warehouse equipment at this current point in time.

Production Plan
The first step required in our production plan is to establish where we will be shipping our product. Since we wont have to worry about manufacturing the product 5

NextTech Dual: Operations/HR/IT Plan ourselves, we can instead focus on the day-to-day operations of shipping the product out. We will first need to establish whom we will be shipping to. The two companies that we have decided to ship to are Target and Best Buy. Target and Best Buy have both agreed to stock our products in their warehouse. They will then distribute the product to their stores nationwide. The sales and marketing team will work with them to divide how much product goes where. We will also be delivering out of NextTechs warehouse for all online orders that will be purchased through Amazon and our own website, www.nexttechdual.com. In regards to shipping, we have entered into a contract for five years with Dorhn. They have agreed to ship our product for six cents an item. They will pick up from the Chicago warehouse and then deliver the pallets to Minneapolis, Minnesota to the Target and Best Buy distribution centers. When an online order is placed, whether it be from Amazon or our own website we will distribute through FedEx. The shipping cost will vary depending on what kind of shipment the customer chooses.

Critical Path
The first step we will need to take is obtaining a building. The building will be connected to the current NextTech building. The next step will be to negotiate a lease. This will determine how much rent we pay and what is financially expected from us. Once we have established a home office, we need to establish contracts with the companies that will be shipping our product to, which are Target and Best Buy along with taking our online orders. Once said contracts have been established we will then need to start looking for a competent management staff. This management staff has to be

NextTech Dual: Operations/HR/IT Plan experienced in retail as well as have management experience. Once the management level has been selected, we will be ready to launch our product.

Partnership Agreement
We have partnered with NextTech to create our new 7.7 inch tablet called The NextTech Dual. Initially, we began as employees within NextTech but we then decided to branch out and start a new division. Because of this, we have a separate building connected to NextTechs office in Chicago. NextTech has agreed to fund the capital needed to launch the NextTech Dual project. Since we will be operating within the NextTech family, all control will still be designated to NextTech and we will not have any ownership. Even though we wont have any ownership for this newly formed division, we will have our own management structure along with our own departments. As far as the operations part of the partnership is concerned, we will utilize NextTechs current warehouse. Within this facility we will utilize the manufacturing plant where we plan on producing the devices. We also plan on employing the current warehouse staff for our own use. By doing this, we can reduce the amount of capital needed to launch this project because we are initially only shipping one sku. Once we are able to payback our initial investment, we then plan to expand to another, bigger, location. With regards to management, even though we wont have financial control, we will have control over management. We plan on employing our own management staff. This staff will include top executives along with directors and managers of each department. This will entitle us to act as our own company should we decide to separate ourselves

NextTech Dual: Operations/HR/IT Plan from NextTech in the future. Although we will have our own management staff we will still need financial assistance. This assistance will come directly from NextTech. NextTech will provide us with the needed capital along with any needed amount of Duels. With this comes the promise that we break even within the first 18 months.

Back-up Plans
One scenario that we have foreseen is if for some reason Dorhn cannot make a delivery, we must have a backup-up plan established. We have entered into another contract with UPS Freight for five years. UPS has agreed to ship our tablet at a slightly increased cost. We have agreed to seven cents per item. Another shipping scenario that we have determined is in regards to online orders. As stated above we will be using FedEx for all local shipping but should we need extra or they cannot ship, we have also established an account with UPS to ship out our online orders.

NextTech Dual Personnel


It is apparent that we will require a group of hired skilled employees to achieve our projected sales. We have been given a budget of $3 million dollars to provide for employee salary allowances. Human Resources will be required to hire employees from the administrative, finance, marketing, sales, HR, operations, and project management departments in order to execute all of the necessary tasks needed to successfully distribute the NextTech Dual. A breakdown of the number of employees with salaries has been provided in the appendix. An increase of five percent per year for the first five years of operation has also been included into the same salary spreadsheet.

NextTech Dual: Operations/HR/IT Plan A total number of twenty-seven employees will be hired at the start of operations in year zero. This number will slightly increase to forty employees in year one, forty-nine in year two, fifty-five in year three, fifty-seven in year four, and finally sixty-three employees in year five. Employee growth has been accounted for in our overall HR budget and is displayed in Appendix C. The job delegations of our project team for the NextTech Dual have also been incorporated into the number of employees necessary for the success of the NextTech Dual. Each employee will be required to be meet employment requirements prior to being hired. The requirements fall into four categories: physical, teamwork, organizational, and technical skills. Complete employee descriptions can be found in Appendix E of this plan. We believe these employee descriptions accurately match the requirements of NextTech.

It has been determined that the best strategic business decision in regards to employees is to divide the United States into four different sales and marketing regions. Each region will be assigned separate regional managers and sales associates. As displayed in the image below, the four regions will consist of the West, Midwest, South 9

NextTech Dual: Operations/HR/IT Plan and East territories. As sales grow, the need for more managers and sales associates per region will increase. As we expect sales to start off slow with the introduction of the new NextTech Dual, we have allowed for two managers to split all four regions in year zero, along with one salesperson per manager.

Benefits Policy
We will offer our newly hired employees a strategic benefits plan that will allow us to remain competitive with other similar businesses. The employee benefits will cost NextTech an additional 50% of the employees salaries. This has already been worked into the HR budget, as displayed in the Appendix under Employee Salaries. The company will utilize a paid time off plan to provide all employees with flexible paid time off from work that can be used as the employee decides. Based on an employees hours worked per pay period, the employee will earn bi-weekly paid time off 10

NextTech Dual: Operations/HR/IT Plan in hourly increments when their bimonthly paycheck is issued. Employees may use time from their paid time off bank in hourly increments. The supervisor must approve all used paid time off and Human Resources must be informed of this usage. By utilizing this plan, we hope to reduce unscheduled absences. Through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, the company will also offer three different types of health and dental insurance coverage for employees. The first plan is called a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). This plan will allow the employee to choose which physician(s) they would like to see. The PPO plan will also allow for the employee to see specialists out of network for a higher out-of-pocket fee. The plan will cost more for the employee in terms of premiums and deductibles and will not require the employee to pay a copayment at the time of service. However, the charges from the visit will go toward the employees deductible and he or she will be responsible to pay the fees until the deductible has been met. The next choice of plan that will be offered is called a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). Employees that decide to enroll in this plan will choose a primary care physician and will require referrals to specialists that are part of their HMO network. The employee must pay a copayment for each visit. The additional charges for the visit will be covered through this plan. The employee must see physicians within network or pay out-of-pocket for each service that is rendered out of network. The final plan that employees may enroll is called Point-of-Service (POS). This option of insurance enables employees to utilize in-network providers by choosing a specific primary care physician or they may see out of network providers for an

NextTech Dual: Operations/HR/IT Plan additional cost. Employees that enroll in this plan are given more flexibility in terms of which physician(s) they wish to see. NextTech will also offer retirement benefits such as 401K investments, Social Security, and Medicare. By offering retirement opportunities, we can remain competitive with other companies. Employees now consider health insurance and retirement benefits just as important as their salary. Allowing employees to invest in their 401K plans is the first retirement benefit that we will offer. In doing so, a specific amount determined by the employee will be automatically deducted from the employees paycheck. For the first three years of operation, NextTech will match 50% of employee contributions up to the first 3% of their salary. After year three, NextTech will increase their matching potential to 6%. The next retirement benefit we will offer employees is Social Security. Both the employees and NextTech will contribute to each employees Social Security benefits. To receive monthly Social Security checks, the employee must have worked a specific length of time in a covered job (roughly 10 years). The final retirement benefit offered will be the opportunity to contribute to Medicare coverage. Each employee pays 1.45% of his or her earnings into the Federal Insurance Contributions Act, which then goes toward future Medicare coverage. NextTech will match the employees contribution of 1.45%.

Technology Plan
We have decided to utilize NextTechs existing IT department to save money. While we will use the existing IT employees, we will need to implement data mining software

NextTech Dual: Operations/HR/IT Plan that will be used to increase revenue and cut unnecessary costs. The aim of this project is to have a strong consumer focus. Using the data mining software will allow us to gather data on internal factors such as pricing, product marketing, and staffing competencies to determine the impact on sales, customer satisfaction, and overall profitability. We will impose this software into the IT department and will also factor this cost into our overall budget. After researching different software vendors, we have purchased Datameer software for a cost of $2,999 per year that can be used by up to fifty designated users. This is essential in examining the current and future market trends. Datameer will also provide employee training that is included into the yearly cost of the software. The NextTech Dual division will utilize the domain name of www.nexttechdual.com. This site will be separate from NextTechs website. However, there will be a link on NextTechs homepage that consumers can utilize to come directly to the Duals page. The cost for the domain name will be minimal and will not impact our budget.

Training Plan
The training plan that the NextTech Dual division will utilize will be based solely inhouse since we are attempting to save money within the first few years of operation. Managers and department directors will perform the training. The customer service and IT departments will not be included in this training plan because we will be utilizing NextTechs already existing customer service department. The chart below breaks down the training process that we intend to utilize.

Growth Plan
An important point in our growth plan is geared toward our employees. Our newly hired employees at the start of operations will increase in number as sales and profitability increase. An increase in sales will allow us to hire more employees and potentially purchase a larger office space to make room for further expansion. If sales do not grow as expected, we will need to adjust our employee growth plan to ensure that we are not overstaffed. Eventually, we would also like to implement a separate department for Data Mining alone. Having a specialized department for this will increase our ability to read current and future market trends and stay ahead of our competitors. In doing so, we may also consider starting our own IT department specialized for the Dual.
