Who are we?

! The Incubator School is a bold, new type of Los Angeles Unied School District school. ! We innovate with curriculum, schedule, stafng, and governance. ! We launched in 2013-14 with 6th and 7th grades and will add one grade per year until we reach 12th.

Why Inc.?
We do education differently because the world works and plays differently. Our students ideate, prototype, give and get feedback, iterate. They pitch and perform. They team to create apps using MIT App Inventor2 and Aris Games. They collaborate to redesign beaches to enable snowy plovers and humans to coexist. They author books and invent board games. They debate issues. They use Google apps for workflow and project management. They dissect failure and own success. They become bold self-starters. In 8th grade theyll launch startups in school; in 12th they launch in the real world.

Innovate
Our Day
Weve reinvented the schedule and curriculum to move school out of the industrial revolution into the postdigital revolution. Our day is not like any other school day youve seen. Each student has a school-provided laptop that can be taken home. Students learn one third of the day in individualized Blended Learning, one third in Design Studio, and one third in Incubator, where they explore values, emotions, and choices. Students also learn to code, play a variety of sports, practice yoga, do improv and theater, and rap/create beats. We offer free before and after school tutoring.

Partners
We believe teachers, schools, and districts shouldnt be bottlenecks; expertise is everywhere. We receive generous support from Future is Now and the Next Generation Learning Challenges. We also partner with the New Learning Institute of the Pearson Foundation and have a growing portfolio of collaboration with LA Audubon, GameDesk, the Joan Ganz Cooney Center @ Sesame Workshop, Iridescent Learning, and many others.
