1. INTRODUCTION
Wrtsil NSD Switzerland Ltd is aware of the problematic nature of the millenium change.
A project team has been set up to pay appropriate attention to the elimination / reduction of risks.
This team of specialists is reporting directly to the Board of Management.
We have been investigating our products and processes regarding the year 2000 compliance and
compatibility and also include our suppliers in the task to evaluate possible weak points.
This Service Bulletin informs you about the year 2000 compliance of our genuine electric and
electronic equipment and engineering software.
This Service Bulletin should be kept in a separate file in the control room. The respective pages or tables
of the Service Bulletin with modifications to the Operating Manual, Maintenance Manual or Code
Book should be copied and filed in the respective Manual or Book.
2. YEAR 2000 COMPLIANCE
Year 2000 compliance" as used in this Service Bulletin means conformity with the requirements
contained in Definition DBI PD 2000-1:1998 of Committee BDD/1-/3 of the British Standards
Institution as adopted by the Swiss Electrical Engineering Association (SEV) in Document
SEV2000-98/1d. This document can be consulted e.g. on the SEV homepage:
http://www.sev.ch in German or http://www.ship2000.com in English
For the mechanical structure of the engine the question of the Year 2000 compliance" is for
obvious reasons not relevant.
Electric or electronic engine components that need a check for the Year 2000 compliance" are:
Sensors and actuators for control, safety and monitoring of the engine
Electronic speed controls
All auxiliary related electronic equipment containing a microprocessor
Computer Programs, Engineering Software
Wrtsil NSD Switzerland Ltd is only able to comment on equipment which is delivered by our
company and used in the original design of SULZER diesel engines.
Enclosed you find a list of potentially affected electric and electronic equipment, which was / is
included in the original design of SULZER diesel engines and has successfully passed our check
for the Year 2000 compliance" to the best of our knowledge and provided such equipment and /
or systems have not been subject to any changes or modifications.
None of our sensors and actuators used in our original design has any microprocessor included,
therefore they are not mentioned on the enclosed list. In case you require additional information
about the sensors installed on your vessel (engine related only), please inform us exactly about the
type used.
Any equipment delivered by other parties, including licencees, or which deviate from our original
design shall be investigated by the supplier of such equipment. In such cases we kindly ask you to
contact your supplier directly, indicating the required information about the product and it's
precise identification (Function, Model, Type, Serial no., Year), in order to enable him to confirm
the Year 2000 compliance" of his product. Please also include engine type, engine no. and the
manufacturer.

3. PRODUCTS OF THE MAPEX - FAMILY
(Monitoring & Maintenance Performance Enhanced with Expert Knowledge)
No products of the MAPEX - family are mentioned in the enclosed lists of potentially affected
electric and electronic equipment; for the time being, such products have to be checked
individually for the Year 2000 compliance due to customized installation. Please contact us
accordingly, stating the precise product specification in question.
4. ELECTRICAL BALANCER (ELBA)
RTA TB and some T Series" and RTA UB and some U Series" Engines
No parts of the electrical balancer (ELBA) are mentioned in the enclosed lists of potentially
affected electric and electronic equipment; for the time being, such parts / systems have to be
checked individually for the Year 2000 compliance. Please contact us accordingly, stating the
precise product specification in question.

6. CONCLUSION
All information in this Service Bulletin including all enclosures mentioned overleaf is given for
information purpose only and solely for the products mentioned in the enclosed list as long as they
were delivered by our company or one of its subsidiaries or used in the original design of our
products and as long as such products are used according to our documentation and without any
modifications.
The information given in this Service Bulletin does not constitute any warranty and / or
guarantee of whatever kind.
In the case that any equipment is delivered by other parties we are, however, not in a position to
confirm to you that such equipment and / or systems fulfils the requirements for the Year 2000
compliance", even when it is using the same name or product description.

7. DISTRIBUTION OF THIS SERVICE BULLETIN
You will receive this Service Bulletin as Company from our respective Network Company and are
kindly requested to pass it on to your project coordinator for the Year 2000 compliance.
Furthermore, it should be made available to the person responsible on board the vessel(s) or in
the plant(s) where SULZER diesel engines are installed. The diagram below shows the way of
distribution of this Service Bulletin.
