1. INTRODUCTION
Our Maintenance Video Films as mentioned in this Service Bulletin serve as a bridge between
theory, manuals and engine room practice.
Thus, as an aid to training, Wrtsil NSD Switzerland Ltd offers video films which demonstrate
the main maintenance tasks for RTA engines. Designed to complement the standard engine
instruction manuals, these videos show all the steps necessary in each maintenance task with
attention being drawn to the various key points where special care must be taken.
Produced by the personnel of the Wrtsil NSD Switzerland Training Center in Winterthur, the
videos will be useful for anyone concerned with the maintenance of RTA engines whether they
are with owners, operators, shipyards or maritime schools etc.
Our Customer Training Courses, as dealt with by a separate Service Bulletin, pass on and
deepen knowledge about engine particulars, operation, maintenance and overhaul.
The courses not only cover engines but also their control systems, as well as water, fuel and
lubricating oil treatment and the ancillary systems that directly influence engine operation. We
recommend our tailormade training courses accordingly.

tables of the Service Bulletin with modifications to the Operating Manual, Maintenance Manual or
Code Book should be copied and filed in the respective Manual or Book.
2. MAINTENANCE VIDEOS FOR RTA  8 SERIES" ENGINES
Basically for: RTA 58, RTA 68, RTA 76 and RTA 84 Engines
The following maintenance topics are available on video cassettes:
Removal and fitting of the exhaust valve cage Duration: 15 minutes
Exhaust valve overhaul Duration: 27 minutes
The valve seat grinding procedure performed with Hunger
grinding equipment is also applicable for all other RTA engines
Grinding the seating surface of the exhaust valve spindle Duration: 7 minutes
The valve spindle seating surface grinding procedure
performed with Hunger grinding equipment is also
applicable for all other RTA engines
Checking and adjustment of a fuel pump Duration: 24 minutes
Applicable for all RTA  8 and 2 Series" engines which are
equipped with a SC" engine control system (SC: Sulzer Control)
Piston overhaul Duration: 26 minutes
Also partly applicable for RLA / RLB engines
Inspection of main and thrust bearing Duration: 21 minutes
Also mostly applicable for RLA / RLB engines
Inspection of connecting rod bearings Duration: 21 minutes

The video cassettes for the RTA  8 Series" engines are either available individually or as a set
of seven cassettes. They can be chosen from four languages as well as for any video or television
standard as per enclosed order form.

Chris Marine grinding equipment is actually also
applicable for all other RTA engines

The valve spindle seating surface grinding procedure
performed with Chris Marine grinding equipment is
applicable for all RTA engines
Checking and adjustment of a fuel pump Duration: 34 minutes
Also mostly applicable for RTA 84TB, RTA 84TD and
RTA 96C engines (Engines with DENIS6 engine control system)
Also partly applicable for RTA 84T and other RTA engines with
DENIS1 or DENIS5 engine control system
Piston and piston rod stuffing box overhaul Duration: 58 minutes
Also mostly applicable for RTA 84TB, RTA 84TD
and RTA 96C engines and partly applicable for RTA 84T
The above mentioned video cassettes for the RTA  T Series" engines are either available
individually or as a set of five cassettes and in the English language only. However, they can be
supplied for any video or television standard as per enclosed order form.

Piston and piston rod stuffing box overhaul
