History

The 1101 steam locomotive is frequently referred to as a Scout locomotive. Lionel used the word Scout to denote its entry-level 027 steam locomotives. Generally spea in!" Scout en!ines had a 2-#-2 wheel arran!ement and were reserved for $e!inner or starter sets. These locomotives had few features and could rarely pull more than a three or four car frei!ht train. The 1101 is an uncatalogued locomotive from 1%#&. Scout locomotives !enerally had a plastic $oiler" however" the 1101 is one of a few Scout's to have a die-cast $oiler. (lthou!h it is an uncatalo!ued one-year-only item" there is little collector interest in this steam en!ine.

Die-cast Boiler, Numbered 11 1 - !ho"n in the #hoto abo$e% - This is the re!ular production version. Die-cast Boiler, Numbered 1 1 - ( rare version num$ered 1001 was $riefly produced. The 1001 num$ered version should not $e confused with the re!ular production 1001. The re!ular production version of the 1001 has a plastic $oiler. This rare version has a die-cast $oiler num$ered 1001.

The 2..2 /ennsylvania GG1 *lectric diesel was the first of several GG1 diesels produced $y Lionel in the postwar era. (t the time of its introduction in 1%#7" it was the ultimate Lionel en!ine. 0esides $ein! the first postwar Lionel diesel" its heavy die-cast $ody and impressive loo s made the GG1 an immediate success. The 2..2 is a smooth runnin! diesel. 1owever" with the lac of 2a!netraction and a heavy die-cast shell" this sin!le motor diesel has limited pullin! power. Su$sequent Lionel models of the GG1 were all equipped with dual 2a!netraction motors. 3evertheless" the 2..2 is still a desira$le locomotive.

( common pro$lem with all GG1 diesels is the letterin! and side strips. 4ue to years of handlin!" it is quite common to find a GG1 with worn letterin! and5or strips on each side near the center. 6nits with intact letters and strips will usually command a premium. (nother area of interest is the horn. The horn on the 2..2 is unli e other postwar diesel horn. 7hen operatin! properly" the horn sounds li e a metal $o8 with somethin! 'rattlin! around inside'. Lionel attempted to duplicate the real-life sound -- and to a certain de!ree it was successfully -- however it simply sounded terri$le from a toy train point of view. This version of the horn was discontinued on future GG1s. The len!th of a GG1 electric diesel is appro8imately 1#9 lon! +coupler to coupler,. Blac& Body - :or a $rief part of the 1%#7 production run" the 2..2 was produced in $lac . This is a rare version to locate. Dar& 'reen Body - !ho"n in the #hoto abo$e - :or the remainder of 1%#7 and continuin! until 1%#%" ther 2..2 was produced in 0runswic !reen. 0ecasue the 0runswic !reen color is so dar " it is common to confuse a 0runswic !reen version with a $lac version.

The ;0 Lionelville Trolley was a newly desi!ned item produced $y Lionel in 1%<<. =t is a nice model of a !eneric real-life trolley found in many cities of the 6nited States in the 1%#0s and 1%<0s.

Features
Standard features of the ;0 Trolley include) yellow $ody with a red roof" rotatin! trolley pole" interior illumination" window silhouttes and directional chan!e via mova$le $umpers at each end. 4urin! the trolley's production era" several chan!es occurred. *ach of these chan!es are cata!ori>ed as either early or late production. *arly production is assumed to $e 1%<< while late production is defined as 1%<; and thereafter. 0e aware" there are trolley e8amples where the followin! features overlap.

Letterin! - *arly trolleys have $lac letterin! while later e8amples have $lue letters. ?oof @ents - *arly production trolleys have vent slots in the roof ends. Later production trolleys have an additional set of side vents on the roof" closer to the center. 0umpers - *arly versions uses a two-piece $umper while later versions have a sin!le piece $umper.
