hours Course Synopsis: The course is designed to develop key cognitive skills such as analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating via a unique critical thinking approach in addition to developing language skills that are essential for academic success. Students will be taught to respond to reading texts and present their views in writing. The students will be encouraged to think critically to improve their communicative ability. Course Objectives: Students will learn to: Read and evaluate different kinds of text Learn vocabulary to answer the unit question and to consider new information related to the units theme that utilizes this vocabulary Use information to think critically about new questions and use those answers to practice the listening, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and speaking skills needed to achieve each units learning outcomes. 2 Attendance: Attendance is compulsory. Students whose class attendance falls below 80% may be barred from taking the final exam. A letter of absence or a medical certificate must be submitted to the class lecturer within 48 hours. Classroom participation: You are expected to be actively involved in class: taking part in discussions; voicing opinions; asking /answering questions; and sharing knowledge with your peers. Multi-media Lab: You are expected to work in the lab on your own using your own access code and class code on either one of the paired skills (Listening/Speaking) or (Reading/Writing) during the two 1 hour slots that are scheduled in your time-table every week.
