Environment is .
Earth is travelling at very high speed around the sun There are resources on earth for us to use during our journey - water, air, soil, minerals, plants and animals But we can not get anything from outside, except the suns light energy
Environmental Degradation
Loss of productive landdue to housing, roads, reservoirs Soil erosion Water-logging De-forestation
Environmental Pollution
Water Pollution Air Pollution Noise Soil Pollution

Environmental Engineering
Concerns about the impact of Human Activities on the Natural Environment have stimulated a new area of Engineering known as Environmental Engineering.
Environmental Engineers combine their knowledge of the natural, social and physical sciences to analyze and improve the interaction between society, technology and the environment.
A Profession striving to Balance Development and the Environment by providing the technological inputs for Sustainability. We look at Human Welfare Industrial Development, and Environmental Protection

Module Objectives
To encourage students to appreciate the value of natural resources and be sensitive about the consequences of human activities on the natural and social environment. To develop a sense of responsibility in the use of natural resources, and be able to provide conceptual solutions for control of environmental pollution. To provide students an understanding of the role of Civil Engineers in the mitigation of impacts of development activities on the natural and social environment
Learning Outcomes
To be able to convince a client about the need for conservation of resources in a project to be undertaken. To be able to analyze a given scenario based on key environmental concepts and to propose solutions to environment-related problems such as water, air and soil pollution. To be able to assess the magnitude of environmental consequences related to human activities and propose mitigatory actions.
Outline Syllabus
Introduction to Environmental Engineering Principles of Ecology, Resource constraints and threats to Earths life support system Sustainability and development, Risk assessment, Global environmental issues Environmental Quality Pollution in Surface and Ground Water and its control Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Air Pollution and Noise Control Environmental Impact Assessment
Conclusion
So you see, you can make a definite contribution to the improvement of life on earth by being a Civil Engineer. You may not become an Environmental Engineer, but please remember that your actions have an effect on the future of the Earth, and you can contribute by being thoughtful about your responsibility in Protecting the Environment.
