Magnesia Carbonica.

Magnesiae carbonas levis. Light carbonate of magnesium of B. P. Magnesia carbonate 3(MgCO3) Mg(HO)2. 4H2O. rituration. Clinical.-Antrum of Highmore, affections of. Ascarides. Catarrh. Constipation. Cornea, opacities of. Cough. Deafness. Debility. Diarrhoea. Dyspepsia. Eyes, inflammation of. Hernia. Menorrhagia. Menstruation, delayed. Metrorrhagia. Nervousness. Neuralgia. Neurasthenia. Pregnancy, nausea of; toothache of. Spleen, pain in. Taste, disorded. innitus. Toothache. umours. Characteristics.-Mag. c. is the leading partner in the !ell"#no!n $%ulv. &hei Co.$ of the '. %., still better #no!n as $(regory)s %o!der,$ one of the terrors of an allopathic nursery. he proportions are* Mag. c., si+ parts, &hubarb po!der, t!o parts, and (inger po!der one part. A curious point about this mi+ture is that Mag. c. and Rheum are antidotal in Homoeopathic practice, both having much acidity, and green, sour stools. $-luid Magnesia$ .Liquor Magnesiae Car onatis/, a much more palatable dose, as my early memories tell me, is made by impregnating !ater in !hich freshly precipitated carbonate of magnesia is suspended !ith C01. 0ne fluid ounce contains gr. +iii. of Mag. c. he properties of Mag. c. from the old"school standpoint are summed up as $la+ative, antacid, antilithic.$ (uernsey says of it* $2e often use Mag. c. !ith great advantage for complaints arising in people !ho have been ta#ing this drug to )s!eeten the stomach.) $ 3n order to obtain a proper notion of the po!er and sphere of this great remedy it is best to put out of mind all thought of its old associations. 2e shall then be able to vie! it in its entirety and its old uses !ill be seen in their proper relations. Mag. c. has many points of contact !ith !els., Cham. and Ars. in nervous irritation and sleeplessness. 'ut the nervousness of Mag c. is of the type of nerve e+haustion. $2ater containing Magnesia and that coming from magnesian limestone districts is peculiarly soft to the feel. here is reason for supposing that this softness has a soothing effect upon the nervous system !hen used in the form of baths-e.g., 'u+ton and Matloc# in England, Schlangenbad, 2ildbad, &ehme, and it may be (astein in (ermany. 3t is often found that the physical characteristics of substances correspond !ith their dynamic influences, and thus !ith Magnesia, it very fre4uently is re4uired for nervous systems that demand a permanently soothing and sustaining influence. 3ts effects on the s#in are reflected upon the primae viae or "ice "ers#, for, on the mucous surfaces, 4uite apart from its antacid action, it proves soothing and sustaining$ .Cooper/. An indication given me by Cooper has been of immense service in numbers of cases.-3t is $!orn"out !omen$-that is, the state of nervousness induced by e+cess of the cares and !orries of life. Mag. c. 155, repeated three or four times a day, has given untold relief to many a patient of this #ind. 2hen constipation and heaviness are present these !ill be removed at the same time. 0ne leading note of Mag. c. is sensitiveness, mental and bodily, sensitive to touch, sensitive to cold air. Effects of shoc#s, blo!s, or mental distress. he least touch causes starting. his sensitiveness passes into neuralgic pains of the highest intensity, neuralgia, lightning"li#e, ! on left side, insupportable during repose, must get up and !al# about. he sufferings of the pregnant state-neuralgia, toothache, nausea-come into this category. An e+tra ta+ is

made on the !oman)s strength at this period, and as so often happens the daily tas#s go on as usual during the greater part of the time, so that a $!orn"out$ condition is induced. Mag. c. is of great value here. Mag. c. is to e+hausted nerves !hat Chi. is to e+haustion from loss of fluids. 'ut it must not be supposed that Mag. c. is a $nerve$ medicine only. umours, even bony ones, have yielded to it, and it has been credited !ith the cure of cataract. 3 have no definite e+perience !ith it in cases of this last, though 3 have thought 3 observed improvement in some. 'ut 3 have many times removed !ith it corneal opacities left by ulceration, and 3 practically cured !ith it a tumour of the right malar bone. he patient !as a sea"captain, aged 65. 3 had saved a relation from some operation, and for this reason he came to me. E+cept for his trouble, !hich !as steadily getting !orse, he !as 4uite healthy. His face !as 4uite distorted, right chee# bulging out, nose pushed over to left side, right nostril stretched out. he malar bone !as especially prominent near the !ing of the nose. his !as the only part that !as tender. he tumour !as softish as if cystic. here !as no discharge. 3nside the mouth the right side of the hard palate bulged into the mouth and !as slightly tender to pressure. he tumour !as the seat of a constant gna!ing pain, but the thing that troubled him most !as sensiti"eness to cold $inds and cold $eather. his !as so great that he !as afraid he !ould have to give up his calling. his led me to give %ilic. 75 in the first instance .on -ebruary 18, 9:;6/, but %il. only increased the pain. 0ne night he a!o#e feeling all his bac# aching. 3 !or#ed up the case more carefully and found this under Mag. c.* $ hrobbing pain in antrum of Highmore !ith s!elling of right malar bone$, and $facial neuralgia, left side, shooting li#e lightning, ! from touch, draught, change of tem&erature, cannot stay in bed, must !al# the floor.$ %utting these together 3 prescribed .on March 97th/ Mag. c. 75, giving four doses a day. March 1:th Much less pain. -ace much reduced, s!elling softer, fluctuating. S!elling inside mouth softer.$ April 95th* $<ery much better. umour smaller and softer.$ August 9=th* $-ace almost normal in appearance. S!elling inside mouth 4uite gone. Has no pain !hatever, no sensitiveness to cold air. Had finished medicine in middle of >uly.$ He no! ?oined his ship, and as he !as generally a!ay for years at a time that !as the last 3 sa! of him, but 3 gave him a supply of Mag. c. to ta#e !ith him. he sensiti"eness in this case !as not that of nerve e+haustion, but it !as sufficient to confirm the choice of the remedy, and it teaches us that it is never !ise to narro! do!n the meaning of symptoms too closely. So !hilst Mag. c. is suited to $persons, especially children, of irritable disposition, nervous temperament, la+ fibre, sour smell$ .Hering/, and to $!orn"out !omen, and dar#"haired, sensitive people, spare"and thin$ .Cooper/, it is ?ust as ready to cure a tough old sailor, impassive and stolid, provided he has sufficient Mag. c. symptoms about him. A #no!ledge of the temperaments of remedies often saves much trouble, but it must be used !ith brains. !o cases .related by A. 3. Harvey/ illustrating the po!er of Mag. c. in neuralgia are 4uoted in Amer. Hom., ++ii. 91. .'/ Carpenter, 65, light comple+ion, spare, had had facial neuralgia t!o years coming in attac#s, lasting from three to seven days, at intervals of t!o or three !ee#s. %ain sharp, shooting, from left side of face and head, ! at night, from pressure, from ?ar. Mag. c. cured promptly after failure of %&ig. .(/ 'lac#smith, 11, light comple+ion, full figure. -or several years he had attac#s of facial neuralgia coming on after ta#ing cold. %ain very severe in left orbital region, shooting do!n into eye and face, and bac# to occipital region begins in morning, gro!s !orse till noon, then subsides. No pain at night, rests !ell. %&ig. and )ali i. failed. Mag. c. cured promptly. Cooper mentions it, as a possible

remedy in pyorrhea alveolaris. 3n the homoeopathic nursery Mag. c. is ?ust as indispensable a blessing as it is in the allopathic nursery an indispensable curse. -or children !ho are puny and sic#ly, !ho refuse their mil# and get pain in the stomach if they ta#e it, diarrhoea, colic, stools green, li#e the scum of a frog pond, ?elly"li#e lumps, aphthae, marasmus, Mag. c. is a sovereign remedy. 0n September 16, 9:;;, 3 !as !ritten to from -rance about an infant girl seventeen months old. @p to three months before she had been perfectly !ell. hen diarrhoea came on. Mag. m. is li#e /at. mur., and Aq. mar. in the relation to seaside effects. /at. m. is particularly indicated in constipation,$ biliousness,$ and generally disordered health, !hich appear as soon as the patient goes to the seaside. Mag. m. is indicated !hen e+cessive !ea#ness is felt after a sea"bath. he chief Localities of its action are* Head, r. hypochondrium, inner region of liver, rectum and large intestine, bladder, uterus, heart, feet. 3t is es&ecially suited to* Diseases of !omen, spasmodic and hysterical complaints complicated !ith uterine diseases. Phos. is one of the most important of SchKssler)s original additions to the materia medica. 3t has had a very fine proving in the potencies, conducted by H. C. Allen .Med. Ad"., +++iii. 7:A"=96/, but 3 !ill first give SchKssler)s o!n account* Phos&hate of Magnesia is contained in-blood"corpuscles, muscles, brain, spinal marro!, nerves, teeth. Disturbance of its molecules results in-pains, cramps, paralysis. he pains are-shooting li#e lightning, or boring, often combined !ith or alternating !ith a sensation of constriction, at times !andering, " by !armth, " by pressure, ! by light touch. 3t !ill cure* Headache, toothache, pains in limbs !hen of this #ind, also cramps in stomach, pains in abdomen usually radiating from umbilical region, " by hot drin#s, by bending double, by pressing on abdomen !ith the hand, sometimes accompanied !ith !atery diarrhoea. Spasms of various #inds-of glottis, !hooping"cough, loc#?a!, cramps of calves, hiccough, tetanus, chorea, spasmodic retention of urine, Gc. 3n caseous tuberculosis and lupus Mag. &. has a place. 2hen the cells near the caseous masses are too !ea# to e+pel them, it is because they are deficient in Mag. &., and Mag. &. given medicinally !ill enable them to do it.- his s#etch of SchKssler)s is confirmed in every point by Allen)s proving, and by the clinical use of Mag. &. in the highest attenuations. Moreover, there is a very strong family resemblance bet!een these features and those of Mag. c. and Mag. m. 'ut it is only right to say that SchKssler arrived at them by a !ay of his o!n, !hich sho!s that there are other means besides provings of finding the #eynote symptoms of remedies. Allen adds to the above that the pains ra&idly change &lace, that cram&ing is the most characteristic type of the Mag. &. pains. Dread of cold air, of uncovering, of touching the affected part, of moving, of cold !ashing. 3t is best ada&ted to* thin, emaciated persons of a highly nervous organisation, of dar# comple+ion, to affections on the right side of the body, to complaints from standing in cold !ater, complaints of dentition, headaches of school children, professional neuroses .e.g., !riter)s cramp/, after"effect of catheterism. Nash says Mag. &. is in the first ran# as a &ain remedy, and it has all #inds of pain .though cram&ing &ain is the most characteristic/ e+cept urning pain, and this distinguishes it from Ars., since both have " from heat. Allen)s proving brought out can#er sores in mouth, sore lips, and crac#ed lips. A patient of mine !ho suffered intensely from crac#s at the corners of the lips found nothing relieve so !ell as Mag. &., and it did it best in the i+ strength. Higher !ere tried. Prostate %uffering
H) J3@)=5P C3LL
Dr. Cuc De Schepper, M.D., he diagnosis of prostate problems sha#es many men out of complacency about their health. %rostate cancer, the final stage of prostate suffering, is already the most common cancer in men and the second leading cause of cancer death after lung cancer. his year an estimated 9A6,555 ne! cases !ill be diagnosed in the @nited States, t!ice the number diagnosed in 9;:6. 3s it a ne! epidemic or does the increase reflect improved laboratory tests such as the %SA .%rostate Specific Antigen test/[ No doubt prostate problems are being diagnosed earlier due to %SA tests, ultrasounds and 3<% .intravenous pyelogram/ tests. As usual, cancer does not discriminate bet!een the rich and poor, the famous and the every day person. High profile cases of men -amous men li#e -ran# Happa and 'ob Dole .strange bedfello!sW/ suffering or dying from prostate cancer have raised the profile of this stealth bomber among men. Beep in mind that a higher %SA is not a death sentence* it can merely reflect benign enlargement !hich does not re4uire surgery.

Jestern Me(ical 344roach

he over!helming concern about prostate cancer is its potential for spreading to the bones .especially the lumbar spine/, the lungs and lymph nodes. As long as it is truly confined, it is completely curable. And this is usually the case !hen it is first detected. 'ut !hat do most urologists propose even !hen the tumor is benign[ he recommended primary treatments !ill be surgery and radiation. 'ut the honest urologist !ill tell you

that you stand a A5\ chance of impotence after surgery .despite some of the ne!er $nerve"sparing$ techni4ues/, !hile the chances of impotence decrease to $only$ about 75\ !ith radiation. hat)s not all. Jou may also lose bladder control and dribble urine, a possibility estimated at 7\ but higher in my e+perience. Heart and lung problems, urine bloc#age, and rectum and bo!el in?ury are other, though infre4uent, conse4uences of the above therapeutic techni4ues. Considering the above odds, 3 !ould recommend that men pause to consider natural preventive and curative approaches and !hether it the gro!ing incidence of prostate enlargement ?ust reflects better detection methods or !hether there are ris# factors at play. Since many of you men !ill be confronted !ith this problem"it !ill stri#e most of you if you live long enough"it is !orth!hile to have a plan for prevention and treatment. his becomes even more urgent !hen !e consider the rampant disarray in the field of prostate cancer, !here e+perts disagree and nothing seems certain. &ecent surveys indicate that urologists in the @nited States capriciously differ in recommending radical prostatectomy .total prostate removal/. Jou are three times more li#ely to have this procedure if you live on the 2est Coast rather than the East Coast. he prostate patient)s 4uandary is that !hile treatment !on)t prolong his life by much, it can ma#e him impotent. Even top urologists admit that aggressive treatment does not ma#e a significant contribution to life span .only about a year more to the average patient)s life e+pectancy/ but that it can lessen the patient)s 4uality of life .e+cept for reducing the pain/. 2hat)s more, the ne! sophisticated diagnostic tests turn up many small tumors that probably !ould not prove fatal if left alone. he @nited States is practically alone in its enthusiasm for aggressive treatment, !hile other countries often resort to $!aiting and !atching,$ and the mortality rate of the treated and untreated group is about the same. his #no!ledge should stop you from being rushed into radical surgery !ithout a full understanding of the possible outcome. Ho!ever, 3 thin# !e can do better than $!atch and !ait.$ 3nstead of leaving the body)s <ital Energy to fight the proliferating cancer alone, !e can use homeopathy and supplements to support our <ital Energy.

Prevention 8ith %u44lements

Supplements play a great role in the prevention of prostate suffering. -irst is <itamin A* 3nvestigators at the National Cancer 3nstitute found that men !ith significantly lo!er than normal <itamin A levels had t!ice the ris# for prostate cancer than those !ith normal levels. <itamin A in the form of beta carotene is safe and effective. A daily dose of 16,555 3.@. is sufficient. Hinc has been sho!n to reduce the siDe of the prostate and to reduce symptomatology in the ma?ority of patients. a#e 65 mg elemental Dinc a day. A great source of natural Dinc is pump#in seeds. Amino acids li#e glycine, alanine and glutamic acid have been sho!n to relieve many symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia .'%H/. @rgency and fre4uency of urination is mar#edly decreased under the influence of these amino acids. a#e 7 capsules daily. Effective botanicals are also available. he best #no!n is the sa! palmetto berry .also #no!n as Sabal serrulata/, native to -lorida. hese berries !ere used to ma#e a homeopathic remedy for the prostate long before their herbal use by holistic physicians. his remedy is indicated for fre4uent urination at night, painful e?aculation, impotence and acute prostatitis. Combinations of these supplements in one pill ma#e it easier to ta#e them. 0ne of the most effective is %("%lus from AD Corporation .9":55"71A"516A/. heir capsules

contain the above"mentioned amino acids, Dinc, pump#in seed e+tract, ra! bovine prostate concentrate, sa! palmetto berries, pollen .!hich reduces the pain and the siDe of the prostate/ and uva ursi .a urinary antiseptic/.

.in(ing the Homeo4athic $eme(* for &ou

0ne of the strengths of homeopathy to have available many different remedies !hich can be individualiDed to the patient. Homeopathic remedies are tailored to the !hole symptom comple+ and can even give clues as to !hy the tumor developed. 2hat are the 4uestions a homeopathic physician as#s a prostate sufferer[ 3n addition to the usual thorough inta#e, certain 4uestions are added. 3s there a history of urethritis, gonorrhea, orchitis, genital !arts[ 3n homeopathy these conditions reflect the presence of the sycotic miasm, !hich in a sense is li#e homeopathy)s analogue to a genetic mar#er for prostate tumors. Ho! !as the patient)s se+ual life and ho! is it no![ 0ne of the causes of malignant prostate cancer a sudden stop in a normal or intense se+ual life. his might happen !hen an older man)s !ife dies, or he changes his lifestyle and decides to abstain from se+ because of religious or spiritual reasons. &eligious people, li#e priests, !ho choose to be celibate suppress their se+ual desire and, follo!ing homeopathic principles, are thereby more prone to prostate cancer. According to Nature)s Ca!s, !henever you suppress an outlet .for emotions or physical symptoms/, the disorder is driven in!ards !hich can bring hopeless inertia in the patient. Deliberately suppressing the se+ual outlet increases the chances of prostate cancer in men, and uterusMcervi+ and ovarian cancer in !omen.

Homeo4ath* an( Prostate Cancer

2hat are the symptoms of malignant prostate cancer[ hey are very characteristic. -irst, there is a constant urge to urinate !ith little or no result. he patient gets up at night because of a strong urge but in spite of pushing hard, he only produces a fe! drops. his can be an+iety"provo#ing, causing perspiration and headaches. After some time the e+hausted patient returns to bed, only to be a!a#ened again later by the same nagging urge !ith the same frustrating result. Another unusual specific symptom is the loss of prostatic fluid caused by merely touching a !oman .i.e. the older man !ho complains about losing fluid from the penis !hen he touches his !ife/. An enlarged and hardened prostate gland .even if only part of the gland is hard/ strongly indicates a possible malignancy. 3f there is also the combination of ineffectual urging to urinate and vertigo from lying do!n, getting up from or turning in bed, the remedy Conium .spotted hemloc#/ !ill be highly effective. As already mentioned, the decision as to !hether the patient !ill undergo radiation andMor surgery is a very personal one made by the .hopefully !ell"informed/ sufferer. 'ut !hatever the choice, Conium can be used, even after a prostatectomy is performed. Conium is usually needed !hen the cancer arises from a change in se+ual habits .a sudden cessation of !hat had been a normal part of hte man)s life/. Consult a !ell"trained homeopathic physician for the potencies and follo!" up. Do not institute this treatment for yourselfW he doctor might do !ell to order a ne! ultrasound A months after the homeopathic treatment to gauge the results.

$eme(ies for benign tumors

-or prostate problems lin#ed to a simple benign enlargement, homeopathy has a rich arsenal of remedies specific to the patient)s complaints. 0ne of the best is Clematis, typically needed !hen the man has the sensation that the bladder is never empty. he patient complains that there is al!ays some urine left .usually the first indication of

prostate gland problems/. Another symptom is the feeble urine stream due to the constrictionof the urethra. -re4uently, there is involuntary dribbling or loss of urine, so that the patient has to stay at the toilet for a !hile in order not to !et his trousers. his patient can also suffer from a burning pain at the cessation of urination. he above symptoms are often found in the patient !ho once had inflammation of the testes .orchitis/ andMor epididymitis. Clematis is indicated especially !hen the patient has a history of gonorrhea being $cured$ .driven deeper in!ards/ !ith antibiotics. Another e+cellent remedy is Selenium .in homeopathic doses/. he dominating characteristic is the physical and mental debility and e+haustion of the patient. A classical e+ample is the patient !ith an increased se+ual desire and the inability to have an erection .Selenium can be used as an erection remedy/. At the same time, he e+periences physical !ea#ness from the slightest e+ertion, also obvious after the fe! times he manages to have se+. He loses prostatic fluid during stool or sleep. Some very specific symptoms calling for Selenium are hoarseness and hair loss on any part of the body .including eyelashes and pubic hair/. An important note is that $Selsun$ shampoo can counteract this remedy .because it contains selenium/ and should be avoided !hen ta#ing homeopathic SeleniumW 2hen !e mention digitalis !e thin# of a heart remedy. Jet homeopathic Digitalis is the most important remedy for urine retention caused by an enlarged prostate. here is a strong desire to urinate but it is impossible for the patient to do so. He also feels his heart beating in his bladder and has a constant urge to urinate .tenesmus/ at night. hen he has the strange feeling that the bladder is al!ays full, even after urination. he above symptoms should alert the vigilant physician to the use of digitalis. Hinc is often used as an antio+idant together !ith <itamin C, E and beta carotene to fight free radicals. Hincum metallicum, homeopathic Dinc, is very specific for the man !ho can only urinate !hen sitting on the toilet. 3t is impossible for him to urinate !hile standing. Classically, his symptoms are also aggravated by drin#ing !ine. Another remedy, one giving another etiology for prostate enlargement, is Staphysagria. he causalities for this remedy are se+ual e+cesses and humiliation situations li#e verbal, physical, emotional or se+ual abuse. Specifically these men can be impotent !ith their !ives, yet have an erection !hen they masturbate. 0ften they have strong se+ual dreams and thoughts !hen in bed, forcing them to masturbate in order to fall asleep. @ncontrolled itching of the testes may be symptomatic. here are many more specific prostate remedies such as %ulsatilla, Causticum, Nitric acid, Cannabis sativa and hu?a. he homeopathic physician !ill determine !hich one fits each patient)s symptom comple+. he message is clear. 'efore you are rushed into an operation, e+plore all options and ma#e informed conscientious decisions. Consult a trained homeopathic physician !ho can determine the right remedy for your prostate suffering. Don)t forget* nothing can beat prevention. Any man over the age of =5 should start ta#ing a product li#e %("%lus .1"= capsules daily/ and avoid a lot of future troubleW

Dr. Cuc De Schepper, M.D., Mental"emotional diseases are more baffling, frightening and e+pensive to treat than almost any other type of disease]and the most feared and most common among them is depression. Half the American population has tried a po!erful psychotropic medication li#e %roDac or Holoft for depression, and %roDac is even given for premenstrual tension. he 2estern medical approach has several real fla!s, beginning !ith the lac. of indi"iduali2ation. 3t classifies patients !ith a disease name, each !ith its fi+ed protocol giving the same treatment to very different individuals. And rarely do !e promise cure, rather control of the disease. 'ut the drugs used to control the disease create a second disease picture !ith their numerous side effects. 3n 2estern medicine !e have very fe! psychotropic drugs, none !ithout side effects, some very debilitating. 2e thin# !e have made progress in 2estern medicine because !e have a ne! buDD!ord, $neurotransmitters,$ but this does not give us the po!er to balance those neurotransmitters, much less understand !hy they are out of !hac# in the first place. As long as !e are not loo#ing at the beginning of the disease, the root, !e cannot e+pect to resolve the end stage, the disease picture. Hence the all"important 4uestion* 34hat ha&&ened in your life $hen you got de&ressed53 'y tracing the condition bac# to its origin and then addressing that particular state !ith a remedy, homeopathy can actually cure any depression. And a cure in homeopathy means not only relieving the symptoms but eradicating the &redis&osition to a particular condition. Jou may thin# you are already using homeopathy because you are using a natural remedy, Hypericum or St. >ohn)s !ort, !hich is sometimes incorrectly called $homeopathic.$ 'ut !hat ma#es a remedy $homeopathic$ is not the ingredient, it is the uni4ue process of diluting and potentiDing it. -or e+ample, salt has no healing capacities until it is homeopathically prepared .and then it becomes Natrum muriaticum, one of our most po!erful remedies/. So !hat about St. >ohn)s !ort[ All homeopathic remedies are &ro"ed on healthy people to determine !hat symptoms they !ill cover. Hypericum in its provings indeed sho!s some symptoms of depression, such as the inclination to !eep, apprehensiveness, and mental e+citement. Jet as a homeopathic remedy it does not come even close to a hundred other remedies for depression, each one tailored to the &articular &atient. Hypericum in homeopathy is mainly used for pain syndromes !ith nervous

involvement* a crushed finger, sciatica, numbness, tingling, and headaches after a spinal tap. 'ut for depression* noW 2e have far superior !eapons. 2hat is the future of St. >ohn)s !ort for depression[ here are no universal panaceas for any disease. And using an herb in large supplement doses is a lot closer to 2estern medicine than homeopathy* there is no individualiDation and no covering of the causality, and too much is ta#en, too often. here is a danger of actually intensifying the depression as an e+cess of the herb builds up in the body. he strength of homeopathy is evident in chronic diseases, and particularly so in mental" emotional conditions li#e depression. Jou should never attempt to treat yourself for a chronic disease, professional homeopathic advice is necessary. 'ut for some acute, temporary depressive states, homeopathic remedies can be used very safely. As usual in those acute cases, one should use the 75C or 155C potency .see my previous articles/. Cet)s investigate ?ust some of the homeopathic remedies !e have. 'y far one of the most po!erful anti"depressive remedies is Aurum metallicum or the metal gold. 3ndeed, it does not have any healing po!ers in its crude form, but prepared according to homeopathic methods it becomes a gem. 3t covers the classic situation in !hich one person dies after many years of a happy marriage, and the other partner dies !ithin a fe! months. he surviving partner !ill say, $3 lost the sunshine in my life,$ meaning they lost all purpose in life. Aurum !ill also help senior citiDens in nursing homes !here loneliness and a lac# of purpose often bring an $Aurum state$ of emptiness and despair. Aurum also covers physical and emotional pain as !ell as the desire to commit suicide. 3ndeed these patients are the most li#ely to commit suicide, typically by ?umping from a bridge or from a !indo!. hey have a loathing of life and !ant to avoid other people, but they get revived !hen you convince them to go out for a little !al#. hey often have feelings of guilt .$maybe 3 should have been nicer, no! that he or she is gone, 3 regret not telling him more that 3 loved him$/. Another trigger for an Aurum state is financial loss, such the stoc# mar#et crash of 0ctober ):8* many people lost all they had saved in one day and committed suicide, often by ?umping from a !indo!. Aurum can also help other family members affected by financial loss, for e+ample a star student !ho can no longer afford to go to the prestigious college she al!ays hoped and dreamed of. An Aurum person al!ays puts all his eggs in one bas#et, !hen he loses it, there is no reason to live further. Aurum also covers so !ell the pain and despair of patients !ith incurable diseases, especially advanced cancer. Aurum is able to alleviate physical as !ell as emotional pain, as 3 have seen so many times in my practice. Causticum is another !ell"#no!n anti"depressive remedy, but the symptoms as !ell as the causality are completely different from Aurum. he picture is one of complete paralysis of the mind and the body. he patient has suffered a #noc#out blo! from too many unfortunate events in her life. 0ne of my patients suffered a tremendous shoc# and grief !hen her baby grandson died une+pectedly in her arms. A second blo! came a !ee# later]her daughter"in"la! un?ustly accused her of having caused his death. hese t!o recurrent shoc#s !ere such blo!s that she came to me not only !ith depression but also !ith severe memory loss. his is !hat Causticum stands for* recurrent grief events, one after the other, paralyDing all the emotions, and often !ith a sense of in?ustice or in an un?ust situation. %eople !ho need Causticum have a flat affect. hey seem to live in a daDe, !ith no emotions. $Hearing bad ne!s$ .such as the death of a family member or a

diagnosis of incurable disease/ can also create a Causticum state. 2e doctors should never forget the po!er of our !ords* !e can punch a patient)s vital energy do!n and out !ith a single statement li#e $Jou have cancer.$ 3f 3 could choose only one anti"depressive remedy, it !ould be +gnatia. here is no better remedy to mend depression from a bro#en heart and betrayal, especially if it is still acute .fresh in the person)s mind/. he 3gnatia person reacts in her depression !ith sighing, sobbing and ?ust sitting there immobiliDed, as if struc# by a lightning. $2hy me[$ they as# in vain, left by a lover in !hom they put all their emotional ban# balance. $Ho! could he do this to me[$ hey are very sensitive to the behavior of their lover, as if their very survival depends on that one person. An 3gnatia person may also have psychosomatic symptoms such as sighing, cho#ing, a stiff nec#, and a glo us hystericus .a feeling of a lump in the throat ma#ing it impossible to s!allo!/. hey often !eep for help and attention, they eat the refrigerator empty, and they may even have convulsions. 3f someone has many 3gnatia .acute heartbrea#/ events, they !ill need another remedy* /atrum muriaticum .Nat"mur/. 3f there are too many heartbrea#s, the person turns to silent grief, never crying e+cept perhaps !hen alone listening to classical music. She doesn)t !ant to tal# about her depression .e+cept maybe !ith her very best friend/. She feels !orse !hen people try to console her because she ?ust !ants to be left alone. hese people are easily offended, never forget !hat !as done to them, often d!ell over the painful event, sometimes !ith great vindictiveness. hey often become psychotherapists or dedicate their life to a cause li#e MADD .Mothers Against Drun#en Drivers/. 3ndeed, most members of these groups could benefit from Nat"mur since they all lost a beloved one in tragic circumstances. %eople !ho need Nat"mur typically have recurrent attac#s of cold sores or herpes genitalis, sometimes une+plained hives or rosacea in the face. Add to that a dry s#in and oily face and sensitivity of the eyes to sunlight, and you can recogniDe the physical symptoms of grief leading to depression. &ather than committing suicide, they tend to crusade for a !orthy cause as this improves their moods. Another fre4uent remedy for depression is Phos&horicum acidum, the phosphoric acid used to ma#e bubbles in soft drin#s. he person !ho needs it feels that her life is flat and all the spar#le has gone out of it. She is so depressed that she is indifferent to everything, even her o!n family, friends and activities she usually en?oys. She lies in bed !ith her face to the !all and the phone unplugged. She suffers from spaciness, a great loss of memory !ith difficulties finding the right !ord, dro!siness during the day and insomnia at night. ypical physical symptoms include hair loss and painless diarrhea. his %hosphoric acid state is mainly found in teenagers !ho have homesic#ness .it)s absolutely the greatest remedy for these teenagers a!ay from home for the first time/, or in patients bro#en do!n from nerve strain after a longtime chronic illness li#e Chronic -atigue Syndrome or mono. 0ne of the all"time greatest remedies for !omen is %e&ia. here is probably not one mother !ho has not been in this state .although you don)t have to be a !oman to get the e+hausted, burned out and depressed Sepia state/. 'ut it is certainly !ell"#no!n for the infamous &ost-&artum lues. Ho! !ould 3 !ish that obMgyns #ne! about SepiaW he patient basically is !orn"out, physically, mentally and emotionally. 3t can be from a particularly difficult pregnancy .perhaps !ith severe morning sic#ness, for !hich Sepia is very helpful tooW/ or from an arduous delivery. o the amaDement of the family, the Sepia

patient can be so depressed that she feels indifferent to her family, even her ne!born baby. $Ceave me alone,$ they say, $3 am utterly e+hausted. 3 need a vacation, far a!ay from the !hole family, to be able to replenish my energy.$ he poor Sepia patient has al!ays been very dutiful but this attitude is precisely !hat brought her into a state of e+haustion and depression .$3)m having a nervous brea#do!n,$ she may say/. No! she feels that everyone !ants a piece from her, her children, husband, and friends, and she can)t cope !ith the demands anymore. She may even say, $Shoot me because death must be better than this.$ Hopefully your postpartum blues are very short"lived, but don)t ta#e a chance* Sepia is a state easily recogniDed and remedied by the homeopathic physician. 0f course anyone !ith over!or# and over"responsibility can slide into this e+haustive Sepia situation. 3 can)t leave you !ithout mentioning another great remedy* Arsenicum al um. Jes, the poison arsenic is one of the greatest healers in homeopathic doses. he person !ho needs Arsenicum has an1iety and depression, in fact the depression often comes from severe an+iety about illness and the prospect of dying. hese are the people !ith obsessive" compulsive behavior li#e hand !ashing. hey fear microbes !hich seem to be every!here, they are so afraid of catching a disease and especially cancer that they become depressed. hey are very restless, especially at night !here they toss and turn in bed. Arsenicum patients are by their very nature very pessimistic* today everything might be 0B but you don)t #no! !hat tomorro! bringsW 0ften this state starts after a child has been e+posed to the death of a parent, or after an adult has ta#en care of a dying relative for months. -earing that no one can help her, she runs from one doctor to another and is often labeled a hypochondriac. She relies greatly on a trusted doctor, and !hen the physician moves a!ay or retires, depression sets in. Homeopathy has so many more great anti"depressive remedies* Chelidonium, Calcarea carbonicum, Cina, (raphites, Nitric Acidum, Stannum, %sorinum, %ulsatilla, etc.]each for a different set of symptoms and a different causative factor. Do you see no! that homeopathy is far superior to any 2estern drug because it is tailored to the patient[ 3f you are ever depressed, run to your homeopathic physician !ith your .ind of depression and he !ill find your remedy for sure.
