Another plan for towns toilets

TOWN councillors have come up with an alternative plan to save public lavatory facilities in Cardigan. The council has agreed to take on the maintenance of loos in Feidrfair and Victoria Gardens though it comes at a hefty 16,000 price. After a budget meeting last month, councillors have now come up with another option asking Theatr Mwldan and the town swimming pool to allow their loos to be used by the public for a negotiated sum. They would then ask the county council to close the lavatories in Feidrfair and Mwldan car park and use those savings to keep the facilities at Victoria Gardens open. The toilets near the Mwldan cost a lot to run, said Councillor Llwyd Edwards. They are the most expensive toilets in Ceredigion. Councillors are now to enter into talks with management at the theatre and swimming pool plus the county council. The issue will be discussed at next months council meeting.

Farmers warned to clean up their act or face action

DYFED Powys Police are reminding members of the agricultural community to clean up and remove any mud left behind by their machinery . The reminder comes at a time when the force traditionally receives a high volume of complaints about mud being left on roads. This is an issue during spring and autumn when farmers and other agriculture contractors are at their busiest. Insp Mark Davies, head of roads policing for Dyfed Powys, is urging farmers and contractors to take heed and clean up after using the roads. Failing to is an offence as specified in sections 131 and 161 of the Highways Act 1980 (depositing substances on the road). Inspector Davies said: This may seem trivial to those working the land but the consequences can be dire for drivers and motorcyclists caught unawares by mud. He said putting out warning signs on the road was good practice, but did not excuse leaving mud on the

road for hours or even days. Insp Davies added: Leaving the clearing up until the end of the day is not acceptable and may result in formal action. Farming unions are also reminding their members to keep roads clean. Mike Plumb, NFU Cymru Pembrokeshire county chairman, said: I strongly advise farmers to co-operate, sweeping up mud they track onto the roads. This will also help farmers to avoid prosecution and costly bills from county councils should they need to be called out. The NFU has prepared a briefing to update and remind NFU Cymru members on rules surrounding mud on the road and it is available on our website: www.nfu-cymru.org. uk or by contacting NFU Call First on: 0870 845 8458.

Motorists: dont wing it this winter
Dont wing it this winter: Research has found that 1.8million (7%) British motorists make no attempt to check that any part of their car is prepared for winter driving conditions. Half of all motorists fail to check their battery and more than two thirds (37%) ignore the condition of their windscreen wipers. the data also shows that even though one in four British motorists has broken-down due to wintry conditions, alarming levels of negligence still exist when it comes to basic winter car maintenance.
