Exploring the documentation about Dr.

Tesla's "radiant energy" has led me to believe that he was talking about harnessing the energy of cosmic rays. This is not to be confused with what is today called "solar power" which harnesses the energy of photons from the sun. Cosmic rays arrive at the earth from all directions at all times and interact with the molecules and atoms of the atmosphere to create a stream of charged particles. esearching charged particles led me to research radioactive elements since they too emit charged particles and that led me to atomic powered batteries. These batteries are generally low power but perform their function for decades. They are typically used in applications where maintenance is difficult! if not impossible! and where the application is not able to use solar power arrays. The two "oyager spacecraft which will shortly exit the solar system into interstellar space use atomic batteries. Their distance from the sun makes solar arrays useless and service is out of the #uestion. ussia has also used them in light houses around the $rctic Circle which are difficult to reach. These atomic batteries do not provide industrial scale power chiefly because the si%e and weight are limited. &or example! the "oyager spacecraft has three atomic batteries but together they only provided '() watts at their peak. That figure is slowly degrading * but very slowly. They were launched in +,'' and are still running in -)+. and are expected to fall below the minimum re#uired power levels of the spacecraft in -)-/. That is forty eight years of continuous operation with no failures and no service. esearching the atomic batteries led me to the following link0 adioisotope 1atteries for 2E23 . 4n page +. of that document is the following

The battery above can be redrawn as shown below and is very similar to Dr. Tesla's patent drawings.

The nuclear battery can also be redrawn as shown below.

That is essentially Dr. Tesla's radiant energy collector with the insulated! elevated plate hori%ontal and the charged particles provided by cosmic rays rather than 3trontium ,). 5ote that the plate is not only insulated but insulated with a dielectric! the purpose of which is to separate the charges.

6nterstellar cosmic rays penetrate the atmosphere from all directions at all times. They are not! however! constant so the charge is not constant. 6t is not like a battery but an undulating or pulsing charge. Dr. 2oray described it like surging waves in the ocean.

The secondary emissions of the cosmic rays contain positive! negative! and neutral particles. The polari%ation of the dielectric insulation separates the charges. The negative charge imparted to the collector by its connection to the earth ground draws the positive charges in the dielectric insulation toward the collector! placing the negative charges on the opposite side to attract more positive charges from the secondary emissions of the cosmic rays. 3ince the secondary emissions are not constant the pulsating charges makes the current in the cable between the collector and the earth ground an $C current! albeit without a fixed fre#uency so it is not like the $C current we typically think of.

3ince the particles are coming from all directions! the collector! the conductor connecting the ground plate! and the circuit connection wire must be insulated to prevent the charges collected from e#uali%ing with charges in the ambient medium.

6n 7es $scanius' circuit the 8ermanium diodes perform the same function as Dr. Tesla's "sensitive device" and could very well be the "3wedish stone" that Dr. 2oray used in his "valves". $ diode is essentially a one*way valve. Dr. 2oray's later vacuum tube "valves" used radioactive materials. 6magine the collector plate above made of or coated with radium and many of the plates installed in one device with dielectric between them like a battery. Thinking about atomic batteries leads me to wonder if Dr. Tesla's fabled electric +,.+ 9ierce $rrow was powered by such a battery. The documentation 6 have seen says Dr. Tesla's car had a "normal" +- volt battery and an antenna. 6 propose that the battery could appear to be a normal +- volt battery while actually being an atomic battery and:or! since no description was given! the antenna could have been coated with radium and +vacuum tubes are reminiscent of Dr. 2oray's device also although Dr. 2oray used the radioactive material inside the vacuum tubes. 3ine the car story says he bought the tubes at a local shop 6 doubt they had radio active materials in them but 6'm not familiar with what tubes were available back then. The timing is right. adium and other radioactive elements were known at that point and there were few! if any! government controls over them. 6t was not until the early +,/)'s that government got into regulating radioactive materials! their storage and transportation0 adioactive 2aterial egulations ;istory Dr. Tesla believed that radioactive materials would not be radioactive if they were not being bombarded by cosmic rays. &rom that perspective! one might consider the use of radioactive materials to directly generate electricity! as shown above! to be harnessing the energy of the cosmic rays. 6s this how he harnessed the cosmic rays to create a motive device< "Tesla Cosmic ay 2otor 2ay Transmit 9ower = ound Earth>! by 7ohn $. 4?5E6@@ for Brooklin Eagle! 7uly +)! +,.6 have harnessed the cosmic rays and caused them to operate a motive device>! declared 5ikola TeslaA A

The attractive feature of the cosmic rays is their constancy. They shower down on us throughout the whole -( hours! and if a plant is developed to use their power it will not re#uire devices for storing energy as would be necessary with devices using wind! tide or sunlight. A 2ore than -/ years ago 6 began my efforts to harness the cosmic rays and 6 can now state that 6 have succeeded in operating a motive device by means of them. ;e isn't saying that the cosmic rays power the device directly but that they are a part of a system! the means of which enable him to "operate a motive device." That also makes sense in that the radiant energy patent he states that generally the larger the area of the insulated plate! the more power may be obtained. Buoted in 'Tesla! This ray! which 6 call the primary solar ray! gives rise to a secondary radiation by impact against the cosmic dust scattered through space. 6t is the secondary radiation which now is commonly called the cosmic ray! and comes! of course! e#ually from all directions in space. FThe article continues0 The phenomena of radioactivity are not the result of forces within the radioactive substances but are caused by this ray emitted by the sun. 6f radium could be screened effectively against this ray it would cease to be radioactive! he said.G "5or do they come to any appreciable amount from the stars." 6n this he appears to be incorrect. Today's scientists are slowly working out the source of high energy cosmic rays and it appears that they are the product of super novae. $t a later time! shown below! he changes his opinion on this. 5ikola Tesla! The idea of atomic energy is illusionary but it has taken so powerful a hold on the minds! that although 6 have preached against it for twenty*five years! there are still some who believe it to be reali%able. Hhile the cosmic rays are in fact subatomic particles! here he is talking about generating electricity from the inside of the atom by harnessing these subatomic particles and he is proven wrong to an extent. Hhile the origin and character of the rays observed near the earth?s surface had thus been sufficiently well ascertained! the so called cosmic rays observed at great altitudes presented a riddle for more than twenty*six years! chiefly because it was found they increased with the height at a rapid rate. 2y investigations brought out the astonishing fact that the effects at high altitude are of an entirely different nature! having no relation whatever to cosmic rays. These are particles from celestial bodies at very high temperatures and charged to enormous electrical potentials. This is a bit confusing until you reali%e that "A having no relation whatever to cosmic rays." means the "cosmic rays" near the earth's surface which are the secondary emissions and the particles at great altitudes are the primary cosmic rays "A from celestial bodies at very high temperatures and charged to enormous electrical potentials." 4f course the problem with all of this is that if it is true then D6Cers have no chance of accomplishing either Dr. Tesla's or Dr. 2oray's experiments in today's world of tightly controlled radioactive materials.
