ANALYSIS

From the data collected I have made the assumption that bus stops seem to cluster around downtown Queen Street (from customs st to Quay st), although the entire area to some may be seen as one large bus stop, there are in fact 25 individual bus stops located in this area !he reason for this cluster of bus stops is because downtown Queen Street is a very popular area for tourists, mainly due to the tourist facilities and services located in this area, such as the ferry terminal !he ma"ority of tourists who visit Queen Street are international tourists #$% as opposed to the &$% domestic tourists, international tourists tend to lac' a vehicle and in order to access the tourist facilities and services they tend to use public transportation (buses), thus the influ( of bus stops on middle and downtown Queen Street !he main pattern that I have noticed correlates with these findings) there seems to be an influ( of food related outlets along Queen Street, more than fifty were recorded in an even pattern down the street *y data also shows that in comparison to other facilities along Queen Street there are +$% more resuraunts than any other service ,estaurants along Queen Street are evenly dispersed, and due to their high number along the short stretch of road, they are consistently high, thus creating a linear pattern, as shown by the mapping data I have presented) which indicates an even dispersal of food outlets right up and down the - . /* stretch of road In fact when surveyed #$% of people stated that the main reason for them coming to Queen Street was because of the food, this proves my hypothesis that tourists come to Queen Street because of food, the way in which these tourists access these food outlets is by busses as stated above !he data I have presented suggests that the least number of facilities that e(ist on Queen Street are outlets which one can classify as 0tourist attractions0 1nly a handful of different types of attractions e(ist along Queen St, and of these are historic church buildings and city par's, only 2 par's and & historic church buildings e(ist along the - .'m stretch of road, in fact tourist attractions only constitute 5% of the total services and facilities that were surveyed along Queen Street !his is mainly due to the fact that the visiting area mainly caters for tourists who see' services, food and shops !his piece of data correlates to the verbal survey data that too' place in the same area !he vast ma"ority of people stated, when as'ed 2what their purpose for coming to Queen Street was3, they stated it was for food, virtually no people came to Queen Street for the attractions, only -$% to be precise !his is why Queen Street is not a good place for tourist attractions to be located) it is also much more profitable to place tourist attractions further away from the 456 as the cost of land is much cheaper 7 large number of high class upmar'et stores were found clustered in downtown Queen Street) this is not e(pected as only -5% of tourists when surveyed stated that they came to Queen Street for shopping !hese high class upmar'et stores cluster into several parts along Queen Street, especially along middle and downtown Queen Street which my map shows !hese high upmar'et stores include 8ouis 9uitton and :ucci) however there were also lower class tourist retail stores such as Souvenir shops that were located in this area In my opinion the reason for this inconsistency is due to the fact that the amount of people surveyed is only a small proportion of the total number of tourists on Queen Street, because of this a large number of tourists who came to Queen Street for shopping purposes were e(cluded from the data by chance Conclusion

Queen Street caters for tourists in many different ways it offers a combination of food outlets, attractions and services 7fter analy;ing the data collected I have concluded that there are various patterns in which tourist services and facilities, correspond to the fre<uency and genre of tourist visiting Queen street (i e international or domestic) 7n e(ample of this, is the influ( of tourist retail (souvenir shops, and high class shops i e 8ouis 9uitton), money e(changers and bus stops around downtown Queen Street !hese services are placed in this clustered pattern=area so it provides the consumer (which is most li'ely a tourist), with more variety in their selection of products, and offers foreign money e(change outlets nearby

so it is easier for them to spend more money I have noticed from my data that there are even more specific patterns arising, for e(ample the upper part of Queen Street is much closer to tertiary institutes such as 7>! and 7uc'land >niversity, not to mention the numerous ban's and schools situated in upper Queen Street !ourists would not typically visit these services) these services rather tend to be visited by locals and or students !he lower part of Queen Street in contrast is much closer to tourist services and facilities It seems to me that Queen Street caters for tourists by placing services, in such a way that tourists and locals would not conflict with each other, as the needs to cater for each group are so vastly different, tourist facilities and services in lower Queen Street, and services for locals and students are placed in upper Queen Street Evaluation In my opinion the way in which I have answered the research Question has been <uite a success, the information presented is relevant to the topic in <uestion and has given me a detailed insight into the topic at hand 6espite this as <uoted by ?inston 4hurchill 2there is always room for improvement3, for instance tourist services and facilities that were surveyed are placed so that they attain to the needs of all tourists on Queen Street, at all times, not "ust at the time that my verbal Questionnaire too' place, irrelevant of this my observation data is what my conclusion statement is based on @erhaps if I could interview the city planners that were hired by the 7uc'land council, then maybe they would give me a more insightful perspective on how the tourist facilities and services were placed, thus I could possibly ma'e a more detailed and insightful analysis and conclusion based on their 'nowledge !he other thing that could be improved is my data collection methods, for instance rather than surveying people during the day, perhaps I could also do it at night !his may allow me to get a more accurate picture of what types of tourists come and different times, and for what purposes, and how Queen Streets facilities and services attain to their needs Aowever this collection method may have disastrous conse<uences, as around this time depending on which day of the wee', there are many violent drun's roaming the streets on a Friday and or Saturday night, whereas in contrast if the survey was done on a !uesday night for instance there may be no one there to survey, however the resturaunts will be open at this time and the number and types of tourists that I do survey may change, I could then use this data to compare, contrast and <uestion my claim From an early stage my decision was to e(clude data from sources that are un'nown, (7uc'land city council city planners website), and or companies or corporations that are trying to sell their products (travel and tourist promoting websites), as these sources tend to have a hidden agenda !he data that I have presented and based my analysis and conclusion on, is all primary and or secondary data from other class members which I can trust, if I were to include data from other sources, then this may influence my analysis and conclusion into a certain bias Aowever in doing so I have influenced everything in my analysis and conclusion into the bias of myself and others similar to me @erhaps if I were to incorporate data that originated from the 7uc'land city council, city planners website, and or companies and corporations whom had trained professionals surveying the data, this may have given me a more wide ranging source of data to answer my research <uestion, of How Queen Street Caters For Tourists!
