In what ways could a collaborative print project serve to advocate for the elimination of slut shaming?
GOALS
grow as an analogue designer / maker (specically in the realms of illustration and printmaking)
!
CONTENT
VISUAL | imagery (photographic, illustrative, abstract), text (movable type, vinyl type, hand-written, etc.)
!
CONTEXT
I intend on the content of my project existing in various independent zine and bookstores. So, in places like Double Rainbow, Wonder Fair, Farewell books, and Quimbys. And because I want participation from a wide array of people, I intend on allowing for some of the project to exist online.
AUDIENCE
Young adults who are aware that slut shaming is a problem and are ready to act upon it. People who may not have the means to get their voice out.
RESEARCH | SUMMARIZED
So, from where does slut shaming originate, and what has been done to combat it? For starters, phrases like modest is hottest and boys will be boys, further define that women are responsible for their own rape, and men are too animalistic to control themselves. And after reading various articles on these topics, what surfaces, is that men are not uncontrollable sexual animals, and women are not, in turn, asking for it.
RESEARCH | ONLINE When I was younger, I said and did some pretty shitty things out of a combination of ! social conditioning and sheer ignoranceThey gave me things to move on and learn ! "om, habits to unlearn, and intolerances to overcome.!

Multiple sources gave information on how to talk to victims of sexual assault, covering the support they need and coping mechanisms that may aid in their recovery. Other sources solidify the fact that slut-shaming isnt just a male to female problem. Often, slut shaming happens woman to woman.

and zines, regarding slut shaming on a more personal level. This gave me an idea of how people feel and what they want and the impact that their posts have on other people.
SOLUTIONS
How can I cater design to be what the audience both wants and needs?
!
What pre-existing methods in collaborative design and advocacy could be of use in my own process?
!
How can I tailor my methods of making so that someone without access to adobe/ technology is able to reproduce and participate?
I developed a few subquestions to further help me figure out exactly what my project feels like. Some of these questions include:
SOLUTIONS
So, I have a few ideas as far as how I can make all of this happen. The first of which is what Im calling an advocacy first aid kit. Think,
SOLUTIONS
Think, this, except cooler. This would be a sort of zine-kit that would be either mailed or handed out to people, giving them a designed kit of tools to create 1 page for a zine. The maker would then mail or scan back their submission to exist within a larger effort. This would allow me to explore various methods of making, specifically without the use of technology.
SOLUTIONS
Other ideas revolves around templates. This could be a template based zine, which functions somewhat like exquisite corpse in its collaborative aspects, only allowing the maker to view other peoples work (thus further educating them) and then build separately or upon it.
SOLUTIONS
Likewise, this could result in a template based poster. I would design the template, then allow others to print their own poster and fill-in-the-blanks. The posters could pose a question or evoke a feeling.
SOLUTIONS
And all of this would somehow fall together to form a book documenting the process, the emotions, and the results. This book would not only inform in the most straightforward way, but would explore peoples solutions and reactions to a societal problem.
! !
This would allow me to grow as an editorial designer, a print designer, and a typographer. In making the book, I hope to find deeper meaning and make connections to the work as a collective. The book would then be distributed, giving even more people the opportunity to participate in advocating for the elimination of slut shaming.
