General Information
Development of the Company
Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH was founded in 1991. Since January 2004, the companys head office has been in Oberndorf, Austria, near Salzburg. Up to 1996, the company traded in well-known products used for avalanche and rockfall protection systems. In 1996, Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH began the development of the Omega-Net. The production of protection systems using this net started that same year and an application was made for its patent in Switzerland and shortly thereafter, in 1997, for a European-wide patent. Since 1997, the company has been commercially producing the Omega-Net in the village of Obertrum, Austria. Due to a constantly rising demand, an expansion of the production plant was necessary in 2001. In 2005, the Canadian subsidiary Trumer Schutzbauten Canada Ltd was founded in Vancouver and in 2006 the production plant was again further expanded.
Product Spectrum
Since the late 1990s, Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH has offered various protection systems in the sectors of avalanche and rockfall protection. Due to their modular configuration, these systems are easy to install and highly adaptable to topographical features. The great flexibility of the systems allows the absorption and reduction of large kinetic energies. The Omega-Net is also used as a preventative measure for slope and rock stabilisation and other special applications (e.g. afforestation nets). Furthermore, gabions and various wire netting add to the wide spectrum of products offered.

For rockfall nets, a spiral rope consisting of either 7 or 19 wires, which have a diameter of 4.5, 6.0, 7.5, 9.0 or 10.5 mm, is used by default. The curve diameter of the waves ranges from 80 to 300 mm, whereby the tightness of the mesh is adapted to the site specific characteristics of the installation.

Area of Application
Rockfall protection systems or catchment fences serve as secondary protection from falling and sliding rock in potential deposition areas. They are used for the protection of inhabited areas and infrastructure.
Basis
Experience gained over decades of international work concerning rockfall protection and field tests form the basis for protective structures, such as those developed by Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH. Furthermore, national standards and international regulations are fulfilled by our systems.
Installation
Rockfall protection systems by Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH consist of an interception structure and a support or retaining structure. The interception structure is formed by the Omega-Net with its outstanding deformability, flexibility and energy absorption. The support or retaining structure consists of posts, bearing ropes, retaining ropes and brake elements. The Omega-Net is stretched across the fence line by the upper and lower bearing ropes. By way of the posts, both ropes are led to the brake elements (if so equipped) at the edge of the system and ultimately to anchors. Energy reduction is partly achieved by the plastic deformation of the Omega-Net as well as by the energy-absorbing brake elements. The remaining energy is led to the ground via anchors.
Characteristics
Rockfall protection systems by Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH are designed with a modular configuration. As such, they are easy to adapt to topographical features. The easy installation of the net packages, the optional floating position of the base of the posts (i.e. no foundation necessary) and the modular configuration mentioned above make the installation of our systems easier, shorten the time of installation and therefore reduce the installation costs up to 30 percent compared to other, similar systems.

Method of Construction
The protection system consists of individual modules that are combined during construction. The length of one module is normally 8 to 12 metres. System rows can be of any length, but generally internal anchoring is installed in intervals of approximately 50 metres, if longer rows are used.

Installation
The light elements of the rockfall protection systems by Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH and the easily installable construction elements make for a simple and therefore time and money sparing installation, even under difficult conditions.

General Details
Length of system: unlimited, internal anchoring in intervals of approx. 50 metres. can be adapted to topographical features. through the extreme flexibility of the net, large elevation changes in ground surface level can be accommodated without the need for a supplementary net. posts and ground plates can be delivered in crude, galvanised or painted forms. Nets, ropes and additional material are galvanised or Zn-Al galvanised.

Tested Systems
Rockfall protection systems are tested at a test site located at Styrian Erzberg, Austria. The site is equipped with modern instrumentation for monitoring and measuring system performance. The tests are recorded with a high-speed camera (up to 240 pictures / second) and four digital cameras (50 pictures / second). Rope forces are measured at different positions with up to 16 instruments (100kN, 200kN and 400kN; 2400 readings per second). Certified testing of the systems is carried out by the Institute for Mining Engineering, University of Leoben.

At the edges of the fence, bearing ropes can either be attached to side anchors (Photo 9) or to the last post of the fence line (Photo 8). In the latter case, a secondary rope should be used to secure the end post by attaching it to the post head and connecting it to the post base of the second to last post.
Advantages
The HPN Fence offers an efficient and cost-effective rockfall protection in low-energy environments by using pre-existing structures. In contrast to rigid wood beam structures, the HPN Fence is flexible that uses stateof-the-art technology.

Prior to the installation of the fence, the anchor positions are determined, drilled and set.
In the most extreme conditions, the anchors can be bored with handheld equipment.

The various components of the rockfall protection system are delivered to a preparation/construction site or to the construction company.
Here, components can be easily sorted and made ready for installation.
Net and post packages are prepared prior to installation to minimize the amount of manpower and time required for mounting.
Each of the packages can be laid out to allow for easy transport with helicopter or crane. Alternatively, the fence can be installed on-site by hand.

Because of the preinstallation preparations, flight times are drastically reduced during installation.
In general, a team of four ground personnel can easily install the net packages.

Photos Installation 2
The net packages are temporarily mounted using mounting chains, except for systems having foundations, which can be directly secured.
The final position of the posts can be altered once all posts have been mounted and the retaining ropes can be attached to the anchors.
Bearing ropes are strung through the net packages, eliminating the need to hoist the nets up into position as well as the need for securing the nets with shackles.
After connecting the bearing ropes to the anchors (and brake elements if used), the ropes are put under tension using a hand come-along.

Basis
Since April 2004, static calculations for the avalanche protection systems have been carried out internally, in accordance with the Swiss guidelines of the BUWAL and the WSL (Richtlinien fr den Lawinenverbau im Anbruchgebiet).
Installation
For these systems, the Omega-Net is used in rectangular and triangular form, whereby the net is stretched by the upper and lower bearing ropes. The lower bearing rope is led to the edge of the system via anchors while the upper bearing rope is stretched individually from post to post. Through clamping the rope at the head of posts, additional stability of the system is achieved.

Characteristics
Avalanche protection systems by Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH are designed with a modular configuration. As such, they are easy to adapt to topographical features. The easy installation of the net packages, the optional floating position of the base of the posts (i.e. no foundation necessary) and modular configuration mentioned above make the installation of our systems easier, shorten the time of installation and therefore reduce the installation costs up to 30 percent compared to other, similar systems.
SAFETY BY COMPETENCE
Avalanche 2
Advantages
Due to the flexible choice of the anchor points, a low-cost installation is possible, even under the most difficult conditions. Slight topographical irregularities can also be managed easily as the net functions as a strong spring between the bearing ropes at the head and base of the posts. The optimal mesh size makes an additional mesh layer redundant. For avalanche protection systems, a 7 wired spiral rope is used that has a diameter of 6.0 or 7.5 mm and which is pre-bent with a curve diameter of approximately 125 to 150 mm. The compact net package and the functional support system, including the retaining ropes, allow for work to be easily carried out during the flight preparations and installation. The high flexibility of the Omega-Net ensures an additional rockfall protection which is minimal for conventional triangular nets and almost completely absent with steel snow bridges.

The highly flexible nature of the Omega-Net and the use of both triangular and rectangular nets allow the systems to adapt to the topography perfectly.
An additional rockfall protection is incorporated in the avalanche systems due to the use of the same Omega-Net as in rockfall protection systems.
Due to the small mesh size of the Omega-Net, no additional mesh is required.
The avalanche systems are light weight compared to other conventional structures and so are ideal for installation in remote terrain.

Rock and Slope Stabilisation 1
Installation
The rock and slope retention systems by Trumer Schutzbauten consist of the net or wire netting component, which constrains the blocks of rock or unstable material, and the anchors that channel the forces into the ground. The coupling of the netting to the anchors is achieved through either spike or clamp plates. As an option, support ropes can be attached to the netting and anchors in various configurations, distributing forces both vertically and horizontally.
Spike Plates
Spike plates are a rock and slope safety solution that are quick and easy to assemble. Anchors can be drilled and set through nets or wire nettings that have already been mounted. Corner spikes and welded-on pins ensure optimum interlocking with nets or wire netting.

Anchorage
The spike or clamp plates are attached to monobar or injection bore anchors of various dimensions. At the edges of the system, flexible Wire Pack Anchors or conventional anchors with eyelets are used.
Tested Systems
The strength of the different net and netting products from Trumer Schutzbauten are tested. Puncture tests demonstrate the capability of the mesh material to withstand a spike plate being pulled through it. Furthermore, tensile strength tests are conducted both lengthwise and widthwise to identify the mesh characteristics.

Gabions
Area of Application
Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH sells various types of gabions. These gabion boxes (wire baskets filled with local stone), which are made of spot-welded mats, are commonly used in hydraulic engineering and civil engineering projects. They are installed as river embankment protection systems to stabilize the banks of the river and prevent erosion. These systems are also used in coastal areas to preserve and protect against natural hazards. In civil engineering, gabions are used as mass gravity retaining walls for slope stabilization or to form terraces. In addition, gabions are increasingly used for the purpose of noise reduction and/or simply as design elements.
Basis
The utilization of gabions has a long history. Since the middle ages, wicker-baskets filled with stones were used for rockfall protection in the Alps. These baskets serve as the base for the modern gabion systems. Previous models of todays gabions have been used in vineyard areas for many decades.
Installation
Gabions consist of single, electrically spot-welded wire mats. These wire mats are made of aluminium-galvanized steel wire with a zinc coating of at least 350 g/m. In addition to the standardized wire with a diameter of 4.5 mm, wires with 3.55 mm or 5.0 mm are also available. SAFETY BY COMPETENCE
Gabions 1
Though other mesh sizes of up to 100 x 200 mm are available on request, the standard mesh size is by default 100 x 100 mm, 50 x 50 mm or 50 x 100 mm. The single mats are connected with joint spirals and provide a minimum tensile strength of 600 700 N/mm. The assembled gabions are available in different sizes from 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 m to 3.0 x 1.0 x 1.0 m. Alternatively, gabions made of a double-torsion hexagonal wire netting, with mesh sizes from 6 x 8 cm up to 10 x 12 cm, are also available on request. These gabions have sizes ranging from 1.0 x 0.5 x 0.5 m up to 4.0 x 1.0 x 1.0 m.
Characteristics
As Trumer Schutzbauten GmbH offers various gabion sizes, the gabions can be arranged for most topographic conditions. The heights of gabion systems as mass gravity retaining walls can be more than 10 m and, in the field of slope stabilization, natural and artificial slopes of up to 60 can be protected.
Advantages
Under most weather conditions, the gabions can be easily and quickly installed, thereby considerably reducing costs. Furthermore, corrosion protection is assured by a high-quality zinc coating that increases the life and durability of the gabions. The durability of the zinc coating is tested in a salt spray test according to the DIN 50021. Additional advantages are: There is no deep foundation necessary due to the high permanent weight; Gabion boxes are extremely stable, even when they are empty; Gabion systems satisfy the expectation for an ecologically sound construction.

Gabions are delivered in wire mats that are constructed on-site, which means transportation costs are cut considerably.
The edges of the gabion compartments are easily connected using either a spiral wire or a pin-type connection.
After constructing the gabion frame, the compartments can be filled. Walls between compartments are shared, reducing material costs.
Due to the rigidity of the gabion, heavy machinery can also be used to reduce the time required for installation.

Omega-Net
General
The Omega-Net consists of individual, pre-formed wave and interwoven strands of rope. The strands are made of thick galvanised spiral ropes that although meet at intersecting points are not connected to each other, since no clamps are used. This highly flexible, yet strong net is delivered in compact packages that can be pulled apart like a curtain during mounting. The Omega-Net is a versatile product used in the protection from natural hazards, such as falling rocks and snow avalanches.

Corrosion prevention
The cement-filled, corrosion proofed steel tube ensures the wire bundles optimum protection against corrosion in the loop area. Inside the borehole, the wire bundle is protected against corrosion by the cement mortar. To increase corrosion proofing, the wire bundle may be placed inside a corrugated PE jacket tube (outside diameter 65 mm), which has been pre-injected with cement mortar at the plant or is directly filled inside the borehole. To keep the distance from the wall of the borehole, wall cleat band spacers (outside diameter 85 mm) are mounted at a distance of 1.0 to 1.5 m from the head of the anchor, which together with the exterior injection duct measuring 16 x 12 mm, results in a maximum anchor diameter of 95 mm.

Text for Invitation of Tender Rock and slope stabilisation using Omega-Net
Rock and slope stabilisation using Omega-Net consists essentially of Omega-Net, ropes and a combination of mono bar anchor and spike plates with or without rope connection. The anchoring method and the rectangular grid for the anchors (not offset) are dependent on geotechnical conditions on site and have to be defined together with the client at the beginning of the project. The transmission of the appearing forces into the ground has to be provided. During anchoring a detailed report has to be written.
Ultimate load state and serviceability has to be verified for the chosen anchor grid. The nonpositive connection of the bearing ropes with the spike plates prevents the global collaps of the system after a disruption of the rope due to local overloading.
2. Technical System Parameters The design of main structures and of single components has to be such as described below (or equal / better) and correspond to DIN technical standards. 2.1 Net: Type: Omega- Net Corrosion prevention: Galvanisation class A Maximum mesh size: 100 mm Connection to bearing ropes: threaded or sewed
