The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland has done systematic environmental work for almost 20 years. The Ministry is preparing an environmental strategy as part of its own strategy The environmental strategy sets targets for the entire administrative sector, and outlines the measures The strategy is complemented by environmental programmes prepared by government agencies The basic idea is to constantly improve environmental work, as stated in the ISO 14001 standard

urban areas should be directed to more environmentally friendly transport modes. Walking and cycling should be made safe and attractive alternatives to motorised transport with good urban planning. Urban traffic can also be reduced by way of efficient public transport.
