S/1o2s s The course seeks to provide an understanding of water that helps make aquaculture more environment-friendly and productive. Discussion begins with the qualities of water and extends to cover details of its dissolved gases, nutrients and other materials. Factors that affect water quality are explained. ater management and disposal methods are given special emphasis. !ext half of the course deals with water pollution and its control. Topics of discussion include effects of pollution on aquaculture " problems associated with survival, growth and reproduction, pollution induced diseases and abnormalities in fish and shellfish, and public health problems. #tudents are also made familiar with the measures required for controlling pollution in aquaculture. O0+e#! 3e This course is intended to inculcate in students the knowledge pertaining to the importance of water quality in aquaculture, the factors that degrade the quality and the methods required for controlling pollution for sustaining the culture systems Course Co1!e1! 4ee' $%& 'ntroduction to aquatic chemistry SAA #cope and importance of aquatic chemistry (roperties of water which make it a living medium " specific heat, dissolving capacity, expansion on free)ing *olecular structure of water 'mportant of water quality in aquaculture SAA *easurements of water quality .ariability of water quality Types of water assessment programs /uidelines for sampling programs (ractical & (ractical $ + eek &, Le#!ure To2 #s Re.(r's !o (ractical
