Dear Parents,

Some of you will have noticed that last week I did not post a Friday message but instead let our ATAC Director, Mark
Pekin, promote our hosting of IASAS soccer and the associated need to find houses for our IASAS guests. I am pleased
to say that we are all organized and are eagerly anticipating the opening of the event and the chance for the ISM
Bearcats to perform in front of their home crowd. Please come along and enjoy the IASAS experience.

The other reason I did not post last week was that I was busy loading emergency supplies in the FAT Lobby. As I am
sure you are aware ISM has responded remarkably to the immediate needs of our own employees and to our partner
service learning organizations; PCF and Papaya Academy. Throughout the last two weeks we have sent out daily
truckloads of much needed supplies to these partner organizations. Our ability to respond to changing needs and to
get supplies to these two organizations in a timely and organized fashion has been seen by PCF and Papaya has
nothing short of amazing. Tomorrow we have two separate groups of teachers who will go to these sites to begin to
help in the longer term phase of rehabilitation and reconstruction, though in some cases it will be to continue to dig
out the vast quantities of mud that still resides throughout the respective sites. We are continuing to raise the
consciousness at school about the plight of those who have lost everything in the flood and we are determined to
raise finances for both immediate relief and longer term aid. The students did an awesome job with their student
organized benefit concert last Friday where they raised close to US $9 000. Just today a further Php 12,000 was
raised with the free dress day. Other efforts include proceeds from the HS play and from the sale of drinks and tee
shirts during IASAS. We will make sure that all efforts are considered, appropriate and sustainable. It is likely that
many of our Metro Manila ICARE trips in early December will take on a slightly different focus given recent events.

At this time I would like to invite parents to the monthly HS parent coffee next Tuesday, October13 and also to
promote our annual parent conferences to be held on the afternoons of Monday and Tuesday, October 19 and 20.
Please contact the High School Office to make an appointment.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish our first season IASAS teams all the best for their respective
tournaments. A special thanks to all our first season coaches; their mission is to develop skills and attitudes that
make each and every student the best that they can possible be. Good luck Bearcats. Enjoy IASAS!

FIRST SEASON IASAS CHAMPIONSHIPS:
This time next week our Volleyball and Cross Country teams
will be battling it out in Taipei for the chance to be crowned
IASAS Champions for 2009 in their respective sports. After a
fantastic effort last year with all ISM teams taking SILVER
MEDALS we can only hope that they can go one better and
bring back GOLD. Good luck to all athletes and coaches.
Here in Manila IASAS SOCCER will be in full swing next
week. It is sure to be a great event for our school and I hope
that all the ISM community will get behind our teams during
the tournament. Our boys’ team has been riddled with
injuries the past few weeks so we hope that all members of
the team can recover in time and put on their best
performance for the home crowd. Our girls’ team is of
course the two times defending IASAS Soccer Champions
and will be desperate to hold on to their IASAS Champions
status for a third year in a row. Please come out and support
our two teams during the IASAS Soccer Championships at
ISM. Let’s make it a truly special ISM event!

As first season draws to a close and IASAS
Soccer/Volleyball/Cross Country Championships are being
battled out in Manila and Taipei it is fitting to recognize the efforts
of all the student athletes and coaches that have worked hard
and devoted many hours of time to our first season sports. On
behalf of the ATAC department I would like to thank everyone
who has played a role, large or small during this first season.

For the Love is dedicated to serve young men and women to
develop their basketball skills. For The Love is an international
organization which has trained players of all ages in over twenty
countries. Further, For The Love is equally passionate about
seeing our players realize their potential as people. It is the
belief of For the Love that hard work and dedication go hand in
hand with good morals and strong character in building leaders
for tomorrow both on and off the court.
FOR THE LOVE COACHES ATTENDING ISM CAMP:

David Bobalik- is a 185cm, 83kg point guard who hails from
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. David was an honorable mention all-
American his senior year of college. After graduation David
continued his playing career in Lebanon as a foreign
professional player. David has played professionally in
Lebanon, China, Taiwan, and Thailand, and has competed
against more than ten National Teams from throughout Asia and
Africa. David has developed youth training programs
throughout Asia and has trained players of all ages and abilities
in more than twenty countries. Presently David is still playing
professionally in Thailand as well as training youth players from
various countries during the offseason.
Ikenna Nwankwo- is a 210cm, 125kg center who played his
college basketball at UCLA. While at UCLA Ike won a national championship and was also selected to play for the Nigerian National
Basketball team. Upon graduation Ike continued his playing career as a professional player in Europe until 2000 when he was signed to
play in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks. Ike spent the next four seasons playing in the NBA for Dallas, Houston, Cleveland, and Los
Angeles. Ike also competed with Nigeria in the world Championships losing in the round of 16 to Dirk Nowitski and the German National
team by a single point.

typhoon Ondoy: ISM Students raised a total of Php 406,936.35 --- THANKS TO
YOU!!

On Friday, October 2, ISM HS Students held an amazing concert to benefit the victims
of typhoon Ondoy. Clubs and Councils like PCC, KCC, ACC, ECO, BTV, BTO rallied
together to set-up booths and food stations. Thank you to MCDonald’s, Andoks and
Hungry Tykes for providing food and ice-cream. Our very own PTA donated Php
60,000 to the cause.
