OCR ICT Practical Communication Task

Starting point: http://linoit.com/users/Mtweb/canvases/ICT%20-%20Health%20and%20safety All resources referred to are available on this website

Pre-skills development work/Research: Understanding the issues differentiating between e-Safety and health and safety Issues affecting all of us and all technologies see images on LinoIt website to start discussions 1. Dangers and solutions worksheet two versions available. Add images versions require students to show understanding by finding a relevant image and placing on worksheet. In the Text skills version students show understanding by copy and pasting text into appropriate table cell. This requires a level of planning as it is easy to mix information which takes some untangling! 2. Worksheet Write your own advice Follow up work with additional link to research information and make own advice ideas. 3. Watch Health and safety instructional video not very interestingly presented! Stop video for students to recall facts/ideas. Make notes on Research worksheet see workbook. Use Worksheets Health and safety recommendations for students to show their understanding of how these regulations affect their workspaces. Could alternatively use videos Tips on body posture to make appropriate assessments watch them first and learn when to stop video as solutions are also on the video!

Worksheets Using ICT Practical communication task 1 Breakdown of tasks: Task 1: Research (p2) Find images of posters or images and add to research worksheet Choose favourite ideas and indicate what features you like best (border, characters, etc.) Task 2: What makes a good poster (p3). Discuss pros and cons about posters. Prezi shows simple and complicated designs, simple images which tell a story. It ends with a video about good design five rules in bullet point form are seen before video. Record these on worksheet. Students can add more info if required. Task 3: Your design brief (p4) opportunity to evidence planning ideas

Task 4: Planning (p5) Landscape and portrait design blanks. I encourage students to draw image/text placeholders like web design or magazine design. Detail filled in on actual poster! Task 5: Using the application you think best for this task, spend time completing a first mock-up of your poster. Remind students that this will not be the final version as there will be opportunities to make the work better. Ensure they record changes by saving the file using Save As rather than Save and add incremental numbers at the end of the filename (Tip: use F12 button for Save As shortcut). This will hopefully mean the work is saved in the same folder and evidences clearly shows progression. (Its a plan anyway!) Task 6: Develop ideas keep referring to the five design rules ideas to help develop changes and improvements. Task 7: Evaluation sheets Task 8: Why use ICT? State an advantage of completing this work by computer rather than using pen and paper for instance. This helps to evidence one of the assessment points for OCR requirements.

Assessment: Complete OCR marksheets as work progresses Link: http://www.ocr.org.uk/qualifications/entry-level-ict-r441-from-2010/ Use worksheets to record levels of support Teacher or TA supported/Independent work Use Save as to record changes to work (Recording/evidencing progression of work)
