Volunteers Meeting The Chapel Volunteers will meet Tuesday, March 18, at 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Carolyn Kloster will lead devotions, and Connie Appelgate & Janice Collins will provide lunch. We will make plans for the Easter Sunrise Breakfast. All church women are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please note date has changed from what was scheduled at the last meeting. Birthday/Anniversary Updates We are continually updating Chapels Birthday and Anniversary Calendar. Our most recent copies are on the west table in the narthex. Sarah and Dan Beane are serving at the Cayo Deaf Institute in Belize from February 20 to March 27. They were in Nova Scotia for two weeks in late January where they enjoyed seeing the progress of the Christian Schools renovation that the Chapel team had worked on during the past summer. Congratulations to MHS senior Derek Mann for advancing to the State Wrestling Tournament! Congratulations to the Radio News Team of Cole Langenbau, Summer Langenbau, Josh Gruen, Codi Groth, Allison Stegmann, Peyton Mannan, Anna Scheidel, & Olivia Welton for being selected to perform at the All State Speech Festival!

! Gladys Appelgate, 96, of Gladbrook, IA passed away Friday, February 14, 2014, at Westbrook Acres, in Gladbrook. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014, at Chapel Church. Visitation was 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Anderson Funeral Homes, in Gladbrook. Interment was at Chapel Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com. ! Gladys was born April 1, 1917, to John Ross and Edna (Johnson) James in Vienna Township. She graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1934. She was united in marriage to Leroy S. Appelgate on December 17, 1935, in her family home in Marshall County. Gladys was a homemaker, staying home to raise her four children. She also helped on the family farm. Gladys was a member of the Gladbrook Chapel United Methodist Church where she was the church organist and pianist from 1936 to 2005. She was also involved with UMW, LCA, and many church activities. Gladys gave piano lessons to many area children. She wrote poetry and painted many pictures that grace her families' homes. She was a member of the Vienna Township Farm Bureau Homemakers. ! Gladys will be missed by her four children; Gayle Batty of Silver Springs, MD; Bruce Appelgate of Gladbrook; Vivian LeVier of Garwn, IA; Merlyn (Connie) Appelgate of Garwin; nine grandchildren; Diane Wood, Philip Batty, David LeVier, Miles Batty, Sarah Batty, Jodi Junge, Michael Appelgate, Steve LeVier, Jeni Junge; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter in law, Mary Appelgate, sons-in-law, C. David Batty and Robert LeVier, an infant granddaughter, and a sister, Bessie Hansen. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gladys family.
