US Version, Chapter 7, The Will of Albus Dumbledore, Page 116 Hermione made purple and gold streamers erupt from the end of her wand and drape themselves artistically over the trees and bushes. Nice, said Ron, as with one final flourish of her wand, Hermione turned the leaves on the crabapple tree to gold. Youve really got an eye for that sort of thing. Thank you, Ron! said Hermione, looking both pleased and a little confused. Harry turned away, smiling to himself. South Africa Not A Safe Haven Though they had hoped for a better life in South Africa, thousands of immigrants and refugees who fled Zimbabwe and other economically devastated African nations are on the run again. Anti-immigrant violence erupted in Johannesburg this May, reminding many of the apartheid era which ended in the early 90's. In many of the poorest areas there is a longheld concern that immigrants take housing and jobs from the local people. More than 50 immigrants have been murdered, and hundreds have had their homes torched. Temporary shelters have been set up, though many are taking buses back to their homeland. Cyclone Damage Blamed on Government A major storm hit Myanmar this May, causing massive destruction in a region already suffering from poverty and political strife. Cyclone Nargis has been called one of the deadliest storms on record in Asia. Approximately 80, 000 people were confirmed killed, while tens of thousands are still reported missing. Many scientists have blamed the government for the damage, saying that the protective barrier of mangrove forests had been cleared from the coastline to make room for rice paddies and shrimp farms. The government is also being criticized for not allowing foreign aid workers to access the survivors.
