This series presents the major addresses delivered by each president of the
American Philosophical Association in its frst 100 years. It is a Whos Who
of 20th-century American philosophy, and includes a biographical sketch, career
information, and photograph with each paper. Volume 11, edited by John Shook,
will contain original essays that assess the enduring impact of these addresses.
Past presidents include John Dewey, Donald Davidson, Philippa Foot, Nelson
Goodman, Carl Hempel, Sidney Hook, Herbert Marcuse, Ernest Nagel, W.V.O.
Quine, John Rawls, Hans Reichenbach, Richard Rorty, Josiah Royce, Wilfrid
